    As a violist who has endured all of the jokes, you madame have achieved the most beautiful sound I have ever heard on the instrument. Even the accompaniment portions are well voiced and musical. Every phrase is clear. Bravissima!

      As a Violist who has also endured all the jokes, it's too bad that Borodin barely gave any Melodic melody to the Viola.

    It is an utter shame that Borodin's life intervened to such a degree that he was not able to devote more of it to composition. His ability to create unforgettable melodies is pure genius -- artists with this level of invention and ingenuity deserve more than having to try and fit their talents in somewhere in the midst of simply trying to survive. This wonderful movement just makes you realize how much we have lost to a world that does not value astonishing talents like Borodin's.

    • @magnolean9762
      @magnolean9762 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I mean he has accomplished some of the greatest feats in history not only being one of the greats in composition, but also one of the greats in chemistry with his work in organic synthesis that tbh should have gotten him a nobel prize.

    • @prototropo
      @prototropo ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@magnolean9762 Yes! He was a true polymath--a genius at impossibly long, lyrical melodic beauty matched only by Bellini and Schubert. But his work with aldehydes was more widely hailed and he was Nobel worthy in chemistry, absolutely. He was also a champion of women's education!

    I'm not sure how to adequately describe the intense visceral response I have when listening intently to a masterful classical composition played by an outstanding musical ensemble. I literally find myself on the edge of my seat, heart racing, emotionally swept along as I anticipate the next musical phrase. This intimate performance and recording is simply overwhelming. There's a reason the Dover Quartet has achieved such worldwide prominence at such a young age. I'm awestruck.

  • @AbigailPoirier
    @AbigailPoirier 5 ปีที่แล้ว +19

    They are all fantastic, but my eyes keep being drawn to the cellist. It seems he is the heart of the group, the one that does the most in keeping the group together and setting the mood of the piece. Of course, as he pointed out, he is the most free to look around, since he doesn't hold his instrument with his chin!

    • @ceterisparibus6261
      @ceterisparibus6261 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      he is the beat of the piece... for sure.. I think you are right. Just I would hate to be used as the beating heart of a social setting... when a pretty girl is up ... she is keeps the pace in the mids with the other guy with similar notes but maybe a bit lower. I identify with the cello... but I love the violin especially in this song.

    • @AbigailPoirier
      @AbigailPoirier 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maxineporter8848 Yes, Borodin really makes the cello the star! I'm thinking you must have meant that you're *partial* to the cello, you like it especially well. "Impartial" would mean that you cared no more for the cello than for any other instrument.

    I listen to this Borodin nocturne a lot from a lot of different groups, maybe I've heard hundreds. Starting around 2:56 here begins a section that I love above all others, that driving violin like a heart beating hard is so punk, and at around 3:46 they really start chopping wood! The solos and tender parts are played with equal excellence. Beautiful.
