I bought a 2018 new. I always felt the use of 5w20 was for fuel economy. At my first oil change at 500 miles I switched to 5w30 full synthetic. I have no noise at all.
That’s great to hear! Still running 5w30 full synthetic in mine, runs way quieter and I agree 5w20 was probably an attempt to squeeze every fraction of mpg for CAFE and EPA pleasing by ford.
I thought about doing the same thing due to my mileage (109k) but my engine is quiet. If it starts getting noisy, I’ll probably make the swap to 5w-30. I am running pennzoil ultra platinum and it’s the quietest my engine has been. Switched from the regular platinum. I am interested in the new oil from valvoline called restore & protect. Supposed to clean really well. They showed lake speed how well it cleaned piston after 4k miles and it was impressive. I’m interested because of phasers and vct solenoids that the coyotes have problems with. I haven’t had any issues but I bought my truck used and previous owner didn’t change oil as often as I would like.
Yeah I’m very interested in the restore and protect from Valvoline I may give it a try as well, seen some very good results in other videos and from Valvoline analysis as well. PZ ultra platinum is a good oil as well!
I switched my 2020 5.0 to 5w30 full syn after about 6 months mine was always kind of loud 91 octane quieted it down even more also, and ive never seen a truck get better fuel economy thing seems happy as can be.
@@JaredBillette I bought a 2018 F150 5.0 and it makes a lot of noises to I switch to 5W-30 it did quiet down for a couple of kilometers but it's back to the same as it was before now I'm just going to run it Until It Breaks

I run the same setup with the 5w30
And then premium 91 or 92 coupled with the 5star 91 perf/tow tune!
Thanks for the video. I recently bought an f150 5.0 I love it but goddamn it makes weird noises.
They’re great motors this is my 2nd 5.0 so far the 5-30 oil change has been great and quieter valve train
@@TrophyTimeAdventures I’ll give it a try at my next oil change.
