    Thanks Steve for another useful video. I updated from a Reverb G2 because it broke. I’m just so impressed with the improved experience with the Q3. Agree with you about the lenses. I’m blown away with the clarity over the whole of the FOV. In the past I’ve owned a Rift, a Quest 2 and Reverb G2 and the Quest 3 is a significant improvement over all of them.

      Thnx, that was the answer i was looking for. Right now i'm still a proud owner of a reverb g2. With the upcomming changes with mixed reality i'm looking for a replacement. The Q3 will most probably be my next headset!

      Ok thanx, I've started with Quest 2 from the beginning of MSFS VR, but then went to the HP Reverb G2 for better performance & quality. The G2 is fine for me but with. the end of WMR I think I'll go to the Quest 3! Pimax Crystal light was a second option, but I don't want to spend too much neither

    Thank you for validating my choice of going with a Quest 3. As you say it’s versatile. I keep fit with cardio exercises, watch 360 movies and off course flying VR MSFS 2020. My RTX 4070 ti is giving me a decent experience - am quite happy with the 30+ FPS. it. I use a Kiwi after market head strap which is so much more comfortable than the original strap.

    I recently upgraded from my G2 to a Quest 3, was a it of a ball ache getting wireless and wired connections set up and dialled in. But the difference is profound. I'm sure more expensive give a better image, but at no time in my Quest 3 do wish I had a better image.
    Not to mention all the benefits of it being a stand alone gives, great piece of kit. The price is not the price though, by the time you add power packs, head straps, controller straps, a dedicated router, link cable, even with that, it's still excellent value.

    100% agree. The Quest 3 has incredible value for money and I couldn't believe the difference that the pancake lenses make. I couldn't bear the G2, probably because of my astigmatism, but the Q3 is amazing. With MSFS, the 4090 is a must, though, sadly. The immersion is fantastic - that Cessna 172 really feels cramped!

    I bought a Pimax and I returned it because of many reasons. I then bought the Quest 3 and I ended up returning it as well. Despite the fact that the overall sharpness is better than in the Reverb G2, I felt that the center sharpness in the Reverb was much better than the Quest 3 . For me at least, the center sharpness is much more important than the overall sharpness since everything is sharp where I look when I just turn my head.

    • @ChrisM541
      @ChrisM541 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      The centre sharpness, and it's size, is still most important aspect for HDM's....simply because that's how every HDM continues to operate. Full screen max resolution is still, damningly, a long, long away, unfortunately. With that, you are absolutely correct in prioritising the central area.

    • @smsheard
      @smsheard 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I found with the quest 3 because I was used to just moving my head having come from a quest 2 that it took me some time to get used to moving my eyes, which is actually more natural. So now when I am landing a place I can see the landing stip and just use my eyes in most aircarft to see the guages I need , like airspeed, altitude and rate of climb etc. But I never have used a G2, so I dont know how good the central vision is.

    • @kiotee_nouw
      @kiotee_nouw 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Interesting. The Pimax Crystal is excellent in my book. Best VR headset I've ever owned. Not sure why you would return it, but I'm sure you had your reasons.

    • @HeliSimDriver
      @HeliSimDriver 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@kiotee_nouw Nothing to do with the Crystal. I wear glasses with prisms and the eye tracking would not work with my glasses. And if I disabled eye tracking, I would still messages in the headset that it was not in the proper position and I could not get rid of the message without rebooting the headset. I loved the clarity, but it was unusable for me.

    I agree with you. I almost bought the G2 and something told me not to, and I really didn't want to spend 1K+ USD, but I had to upgrade from the Rift S. @@Rspence_86 I am not sure what kind of system you are running, but I upgraded my PC at the same time, so not necessarily a 1to1 comparison from my POV. That said, it was absolutely a phenomenal upgrade just from the headset standpoint. Like he says here, those pancake lenses really make the difference. The amount of clarity you get just from that alone is why I made the jump. If your system can handle higher settings, it makes it all the more worth it in my opinion.

      @@jrherita I have settled for TAA @ 90% render scale. I regain full sharpness by slightly lowering the vertical up/down fov setting in openxr toolkit. That setting is worth looking into if you haven't. I find DLSS: DLAA slightly better but more demanding. DLSS: quality looks too soft imo, even with the fov tweak. While the Q3 doesn't have a old style oculus screen door effect I do notice a grey "sheen" over the entire image that you only see while in the headset. Not a deal breaker by any means but noticeable enough. Id have liked it if Meta went with a higher res and better dimming to eliminate this one major flaw. Ive had my Q3 for about a week now and the biggest hurdle is understanding the connections. Link and AirLink then add in Virtual Desktop and it thoroughly confused me for a few days, lol. Long enough for me to try 3 different cables and a PrismXR router and VirtualDesktop, lol. All of a sudden the Q3 is as much as the Pimax Crystal Light but wireless in VD is pretty amazing @2.4k bitrate.

I've used it to watch youtube videos in AR xxl screen, chat in whatsapp, navigate the internet and play pcvr with a link cable. But not tried flight sims yet 😅 It's not that better vs my old g2, but it's a lot more versatile. It's like having more devices in one. I totally agree with what you say in this video about the Qeust 3. I upgraded from the Rift S to the Quest 3 and was amazed at the clarity of the pancake lenses and the nice wide sweet spot. I also like the color passthrough with the recent updates. I do SIM racing with the Quest 3 and connect via the USB Link Cable. All the racing games that I have operate and look very good. I am still learning the Quest 3. Lastly, I am using the RTX-3080TI GFX card and works well with the Quest 3.
    Now no VR headset is perfect, but the Quest 3 does everything for my gaming needs. Plus it is my first wireless headset. Only thing I changed is the head strap and using the BoboVR S3 Pro which also has larger capacity battery for longer usage.
    I am only watching what PIMAX is doing with the Crystal Lite VR headsets and just waiting for the video reviews of what people think of them when they are released. I know PIMAX devices are harder to setup and to get to work right, so not in any hurry to move away from the Quest 3 I have now..

    For me, the Quest 3 is on the absolute apex of the point of diminishing return. Yes, there are some headsets that are better in a certain category, but what you have to sacrifice to get that will end up costing more than what you gain.
    The way I see it is like an RPG character building. While some headsets have max points in one category, the Quest 3 just has more total points overall and distributes them strategically on all the most important categories. This shows how much experience Meta/Oulus have in VR and how much thought they put into their products.

I'm mostly on MSFS2020 or DCS, but occasionally venture into other games and am just about to purchase a high end rig with a 4090. My real question is, does anyone know of anywhere in UK I could go, to physically put these headsets on with MSFS2020 loaded up? I reckon I could make my decision in seconds and know whether the extra £1,000 for a Pimax Crystal is worth it. I contemplated flying to Las Vegas for the Expo to try them out, but could buy both headsets for what that trip would cost me! Thanks.

    I have a Varjo Aero and recently upgraded my Quest from the 2 to the 3. After an upgrade to the Kiwi Designs head strap on the 3, I no longer care to even put the Varjo Aero on. The quest is more comfortable, has better lenses, a better FOV, and handles motion a lot better. Sure, the Varjo is crystal clear, but other than that it sucks.

    Well, I do like quest3 for flight as it’s a great value. The biggest problem comes in with flight time. The battery doesn’t last long. And even if you go out and buy a strap with an external battery pack. You can’t run the link cable and battery pack at the same time. I think at this point, I’m gonna stick with my G2. And keep saving up my money for a pimax crystal.

    Hey,
    I've started MSFS with Quest 2 from the begining, no VDXR, openXRtoolkit, no DX12 DLSS, RTX 2080, playable at that time but I went finally replacing the Quest 2 to the HP Reverb G2, native WMR, better performance and image at the center, but always tethered...
    Then I did upgrade to RTX 3090, openxr toolkit, DLSS, software improvment, but now knowing WMR is going end of life...
    I think I'm going to replace the G2 with the Quest 3, I also remember when I had the Quest 2 I used to play other PC games wirelessly such as Half Life Alyx, No Man Sky, standing up playing beat sabber and other little games...
    With the G2 I did only Flight Simulator + DCS World, stucked on my chair with the cables...
    It seems with VDXR performance is better, there is also the passthrough!
    The Oculus mirror is stabilizing the image too, that's a great comfort for viewers.
    I don't want to spend over 1000Eu neither, that's why I think I'm going back to Meta

    I know it's a quite old video but maybe someone has the answer: I can't keep my quest 3 charged while connected with link (original meta usb cable). The battery drains. More slowly than when used standalone, but it doesn't recharge nor maintain the charge. My mobo is an asus strix b550e gaming. Tried both front and rear usb c ports. I've read that ability to charge depends on usb wattage. Can someone suggest me a pcie usb c card or a usb hub that grants both a good data connection and battery charge (or at least the not-discharge)? Thanks. I fly mainly general aviation, but I wonder if a several hours long intercontinental flight is even possible with the q3 battery limitation.

    This is great reassurance video for me. I almost exclusively fly DCS and MSFS, not many other games (up till now). I was really debating between this and the “extra mile” of the Pymax. The BogScreen looked great, but I didn’t want to also have to deal with bases. After careful wallet considerations, I decided I couldn’t afford the Pymax.
    I love the Quest 3: it does all I need it to do, I find it I prefer the easiness of wireless vs the extra bit rate of the link, and I actually think that onboard games are great! Demeo has stolen a good amount of my flying time being an old D&D player. I also like the pass through capabilities. I like being able to share with the family, record the displays, casting to the TV. A lot of things that would require jumping through hoops to accomplish in other platforms.
    Last but not least, I have a beefy 3080ti, and it is already almost incapable of the full res at highest specs on my preferred games, so in order to take advantage of higher res, I would have had to sacrifice more image “niceness”, so I would not have been able to take advantage of the higher res displays. Maybe the blacks is the one minor complaint I would give the benefit to the competition, but it doesn’t offset all the other advantages, and for the least amount of money in the market.
    5ey knocked this one out of the park, really.

    I challenge you to get it to look good in more demanding aircraft ;) (fenix or pmdg) Simple a/c are easy-breezy.
    Still tweaking mine, but find myself back in the G2 over and over.. I cannot get the same sharpness in the Quest3, text and numbers is much more blurry than on the G2 sweetspot. Frames are say 30-40 percent lower than what I get in the G2 side-by-side tested and that either cabled or wireless. Oh and the rig is 13900+4090.
    Tried the FPS and Smooth flight addons but they just knock the sim down to vanilla XP11 quality so they aren't really helping. I would say that for high end large airliners, the Q3 is not something I would recommend... for now.
    I do love the UI which I have missed since migrating from oculus. the controllers, the versatility as you mention and the ease of use and all that jazz.. But the pispoor under performance, blown out whites on sunny days, color bleed on texts in MCDU etc and a load more issues keeps me from loving it.. Im sure it has alot of potential under the hood, but without a direct link to the gpu its not performing.
    But the kids love it and it stays :)

    To get the most out of a Quest 3 will cost well over 2K, including a GPU capable of supersampling to compensate for marginal native sharpness.
    That gets neither particularly useful passthru for mixed reality nor resolution sufficient for multiple virtual displays,
    leaving Q3 in the toy category. If VR1 is approximately as claimed, then more cost-effective for roughly 50% greater total cost.

      @@VRFlightSimGuyI bought the G2 because of you and Seb. Well looks like I'm going to follow you both again in to the Q3, better start saving. I wish MS would open up WMR so that we can hack together some custom drivers for it 🙁

    So what does it look like in the actual headset? Others show this.

    whats the Sharpness like in the Q3 vs the Q2 as the displays and dials where not too sharp that you had to get closer to read some of the instruments

      Quest rift Quest 1 …they were my entry level headsets lol But I’ve seen that good strong WiFi connection on even the newer quest 2 picture quality is better but the quest 3 will blow your mind

    I loved my Quest 2 and recently upgraded to the Quest 3. The one thing that always annoys me is the transparent white band across the bottom of the image occasionally. What causes it and can I prevent it? Does it in MSFS and DCS.

      @toads4ever 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I had it on my quest 2 occasionally. Did you change the bitrate in either the Oculus debug tool or Oculus tray tool? If so, I believe turning the bitrate down should fix it.

    Is the Steam version of MSFS2020 a prerequisite for using the Quest 3 with MSFS2020? I have the Windows Store version which runs VR in WMR. Is there a way to run the Store version in VR with the Quest 3?

    • @Tygrmoth
      @Tygrmoth 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don’t think you need SteamVR to run MSFS. I run mine with OTT or VD. I could also run it with Steam link or SteamVR. It’s pretty versatile that way.

    • @bigcrackrock
      @bigcrackrock 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It has its own software and shouldn't be a problem. I was still using the Gamepass version of MSFS when I first got the Q3.

    • @MichaelStrother

      @tygrmoth/@bigcrackrock Sorry I'm unclear on this... If I start VR Mode from within the sim, the default behavior is to start VR via WMR.

      You can switch between steam vr and meta xr runtimes... neither of them require the app to be purchased on steam.

    I have exactly the same prosumer profile of yours, Im I'm desperate to buy a hight end headset to replace my Reverb. The think is that I don't like the Pimax at ALL. Its massive, looks like 2010 tecnology from outside, and I don't like the company as a hole... I'm really looking foward to the VR1 as my olny option at this point but have no idea when it's coming out... Got a feeling that eraly adopters my find some trouble too... I know I asked you before, but do you thing buying the quest 3 while waiting for somnium is a nice move?
