I have a Core series custom 24 and an SE Custom 24 and I find that the SE is always my go to instrument. I baby my Core to an extent due to the money I spent on it and that’s why I tend to leave it in the case, however the SE is an incredible guitar. I think when you compare the quality and price of the SE vs the tone and range you get a true winner. My only complaint about the SE line is I think PRS did too good. I’m worried that the $3K+ Core line is devalued a bit with such a good SE line coming in at under $1K. I like that PRS has the balls to do something like this because you won’t see that kind of comparison with ANY other major brand. I covet a Private Stock and it’s up there on my list with a genuine Languedoc. PRS proves with the SE Line that they are a true winner in the music world.
I traded a MIM Strat in for a SE Custom 24, 2017. I could not be happier! Tuning stability is fantastic and the coil split option satisfies my lack of Strat. Fantastic job PRS!
Been looking through guitar videos all day and I keep coming back to the Custom 24 SE. It just sounds proper to my ears, even if it doesn't have SD pickups like the Yamaha Pacifica 612VII I've been eyeing.
The 22 Fret sounds so sweet with the rich harmonics hitting right on the placement of the neck pickup, The 24 fret sounds ok just doesn't have the sparkle magic of a 22 Fret.
Just got a brand new Custom 22 and the electronics went completely dead for some as yet unknown reason 10 minutes after I got it home. Those 10 minutes were glorious though, it plays fantastic! I’m not giving up on it. Gonna take it in tomorrow.
SE stands for Shouldn't Even........consider an American made. The SE line is such a damn good value for money. They look fantastic, sound amazing, versatile, light....etc.
Sorry but for the small price difference the s2 satin is a much better buy than any SE. Not to mention the American made guitar will hold much more value than the offshore guitar. SE models in great shape sell for nearly half the msrp but the s2 guitars in good shape never sell for less than 70-80% of msrp.
I have the 2017 SE Custom 24 in Tobacco Burst which I purchased new and I love it. The only thing I’ve done to was I installed PRS style locking tuners which I purchased from John Mann’s Guitar Vault. I did take it to my local guitar store where I bought new to get a valve on it like I was going to trade it in back in 2019. Now the guitar is in mint condition, no dents dings or scratches, never leaves the house, and they offered me $200.00 for it. I do love this guitar and will not part with it, but they sure don’t hold value!! The only repair I had to have done was on the nut for the high “E” string.
The sound very different. On the clean tone, the 22 is dirty. While the 24 has that clean, chime, bell type ring to it that's beautiful. Were they played at the exact same amp settings?
I expected that I would prefer the SE22 neck pickup but actually thought the SE24 neck pickup sounded better (warmer with richer harmonics) and, in fact, preferred every one of it's pickup combinations! Surprise :-)
Call the cops! Gotta felt like you stole it at that price! I bought the same in AUS although it was substantially more, I feel like I got a good deal. 👍
I think they should drop SE from the name. That stands for "Student Edition" and is not descriptive of the professional quality that these models exude. I can't think of any better name, but it's just kind of weird to hang on to those letters as nice as these guitars are
Edgar Patlan haha true. I kind of like how Fender has their Elite, Professional, and Player series. PRS is kind of all over with Core, even though it's not officially named Core, and then S2 which we all know what that means but it sounds like it is a sequel and not a stratification, and then SE which is mostly used by car manufacturers like Ford to denote their lowest trim levels for a model. Overall I would love to see PRS rebrand Core, S2, and SE into a simple stratified system. Unfortunately I can't imagine a good starting point, but I think that most PRS fans are fond of "Core" as a descriptive term, so I don't see that going anywhere
I agree. My 2018 se CU24 is mechanically almost as nice as my US made PRS. I’d like to see maybe an additional trim level like Ibanez does. The s2 line is super nice, but I think the se line is filling a niche for someone who wants a guitar to also look nice.
Can you guys make an SE Custom 20 with 3 pickups? The 24 sounds like a humbucking strat with only the bridge and neck pickups. It looks much better of course, but it's only giving 2/3 of the pickup tones many of us love. I'd pre-order one today.
Dude for the price point, and that Split coil thing..this guitar is killer, for me as the church guitarist who play all arround genres, it works and realy versitale 🤟🤟🔥..dahhhhhhhhh love it
PRS please put these new pickup to the zach myers SE too!! most people buy it because it's semi hollowness anyway, not for it's super hard rock sounds!
22 frets has way nicer bass in the neck pick up. The neck pick up on the 24 sounds thinner, more like a middle position pick up than a neck pick up, sound as that is actually where it sits. Think the 22 is the one for me.
You did the Custom 24 coil split on neck pickup, and then you didn't compare it to the Custom 22 coil split on neck pickup, but on the middle position.
Guys, the bridge position doesn't change. It's an optical Illusion. If it did, that would mean the scale length is different, and it isn't. The fretboard is longer on the 24, which shifts the neck pickup closer to the bridge. Nothing involving the bridge (or bridge pickup) changes.
I think the neck pickup is silty further down to accommodate the two extra frets on the 24. So you'll get a slightly different tone on the neck pick up. (I think)
This was the best year for the 22 fret. The blade switch takes away the ability to ad a second volume for those of us who love to ride the middle position and create lots of tones with adjusting the volumes of the individual pickups. It's a shame it was changed.
As a left-handed player who really admires the PRS sound, I am still upset that the SE line is not available for lefties. The lefty prices are high and it would be awesome if we could actually got the opportunity to buy some SE line guitars. There are actually some lefties who cant afford all that anniversary or custom shop stuff.
erictoniaschwab1009 that makes the most sense to me I guess, but still, having a split option and keeping it off doesn't change the tone, just gives you the option, ya know?
some confusion on this video as you can clearly see the custom 22 SE has more space between the pickups; which gives the neck pick up a better sound. My 2017 PRS custom 22 SE has the split coil "pull up tone" knob, i'm not sure what they've done since then but you will NEVER get my guitar away from me-i love it!
can they play metal? can they take a beating when it comes to gain? I actually have tried an se custom 24 years ago but I was only a kid at that time, but I consider getting one cause I love PRS's.
From what Lee Anderton said when he reviewed the new SE's, the Standards are going to stay the same. They are the true "student editions" of the PRS line-up.
@Kingston SOON TUCK I just found an SE Custom at Music Bliss shop, Petaling Jaya and it was stated at the headstock that it was made from Indonesia. Regardless, Indonesian wood also could produce nice and remarkable tone due to their country's humidity and volcano soil. Ps: also from Malaysia
The main SE production line is in Korea but the Indonesia plant is supervised and maintained by Korean specialists and these models are all exported back to Maryland for the final modification that is PRS worthy. Slight modifications on Indonesian models but overall the same great build and sound quality for both models.
Does the custom 24 feel longer than the custom 22? I played a 22 today and loved it but didn't know how it compared to the 24? I owned a Epiphone SG-400 Pro but sold it because the neck felt too long. I just don't want that to happen with the custom 24 if I order one.
Its disappointing that you make customers settle for an electronics spec they might not want, just because a particular number of frets is important to them. They should be identically spec'd otherwise.
I just received my New PRS Custom SE Guitar and I am really dissapointed, It just arrived and I couldn't keep it in tune, I changed the strings and it certainly helped but not What I was expecting, but The bridge just won't work, Everytime I try to use The trem bar it is just a mess, and goes out of tune in a second
Wow,they put Paul Reed Smith's signaturE on the headstock and replaced the crappy, korean copies of their US Made pickups, with a different set of crappy korean copies. So much upgrading!! What a joke. How about upgrading the crappy nut and specially, the even more crappy tremolo and throw some locking tuners, for good measure? Or putting some proper US Made pickups on it,Shecter does on their korean guitars, who are produced in the same factory btw. Or how about some leftie models or putting a coil-split for the SE Cu22?
Never had an issue with the "crappy Korean copies of their US made pickups" on my PRS SE 245. They sound great alongside USA made Gibson, Fender, Seymour Duncan, and DiMarzio pickups I've played over the years.
doubleP I own 2 SE Custom 22's (one is a semi hollow)and the pups are fucking fantastic! Sounds more dynamic and balanced than my Duncan sh-6 on my Gibson. I do agree that hey need to upgrade the nut, jack and toggle switch! The (ping) tuners are actually decent.

I'm glad they went with the proper logo befitting the quality and caliber of these SE guitars.
I have a Core series custom 24 and an SE Custom 24 and I find that the SE is always my go to instrument. I baby my Core to an extent due to the money I spent on it and that’s why I tend to leave it in the case, however the SE is an incredible guitar. I still love my MIM Strat. Even though the SE has splitting, it doesn’t compare to a true single coil. My best advice is to get both.
@@KZ-yj7op Yeah man, I got both. Anyone can do it, if you put your mind to it. You don't have to be rich or talented first..
Should have kept both
So glad that huge SE logo is gone
Yeah me too, and that these newer models are a little more like the originals and not as flat tops.
+Jonathan Nelson It's still there, just in smaller print. Under the Paul Reed Smith signature...
I've seen some without the SE on the front, but on the back of the headstock instead?
Wabin22 All SEs have it on the front. Its just a little smaller now. It really hard to see on some of them though
Huge SE logo rocks
Been looking through guitar videos all day and I keep coming back to the Custom 24 SE. It just sounds proper to my ears, even if it doesn't have SD pickups like the Yamaha Pacifica 612VII I've been eyeing.

God damn I gotta get the SE Custom 24. That coil split tone has me sold.
What a lucky PRS SE Custom 22, she got a badass flame maple top just like core series
Just got a brand new Custom 22 and the electronics went completely dead for some as yet unknown reason 10 minutes after I got it home. Those 10 minutes were glorious though, it plays fantastic! I’m not giving up on it. Gonna take it in tomorrow.
Many thanks for demonstrating the clean sounds, I appreciate that.
SE stands for Shouldn't Even........consider an American made. The SE line is such a damn good value for money. They look fantastic, sound amazing, versatile, light....etc.
Haha yes! & S2 must stand for Should too!
Sorry but for the small price difference the s2 satin is a much better buy than any SE. Not to mention the American made guitar will hold much more value than the offshore guitar.
SE models in great shape sell for nearly half the msrp but the s2 guitars in good shape never sell for less than 70-80% of msrp.
not gonna lie, you had me in the first half :D
22 sounds mellower and sweeter.
love the changes to the 2017 models, especially the new logo, 10x better!
are we going to see a 7-string model for 2017?
Thanks to TH-cam compression, I can’t tell much of a difference.
thelittlest potato The 24's has more top-end.
The 24's remind me of the brittleness in some Ibanezes (not to say they sound alike) while the 22's sound more traditional and I like that.
Quite like the idea of a Custom 22, then fitting some Seymour Duncan P-Rails. Now that would be a versatile guitar.
Wow! The pickups on these sound SO much better than the originals!! Great job!!
that custom 22 should be a fucking 10 top SE
Yeh it looks like they have binding too... have they always had binding? Great looking guitar for the money it can't be beat.
I wish the 24 had a toggle switch instead of the blade selector.
I have the 2017 SE Custom 24 in Tobacco Burst which I purchased new and I love it. The only thing I’ve done to was I installed PRS style locking tuners which I purchased from John Mann’s Guitar Vault. I just ordered a custom 24 I’m so exited for it to get here
I want the 24 in the color of the 22. They don't do it!!! Are you kidding me?!?
I'm in the same situation right now, what did you do man? :D
Just got a PRS Custom 24 SE Laurel Burl for $549 brand new. Best money I ever spent on a guitar!
Call the cops!
Gotta felt like you stole it at that price!
I bought the same in AUS although it was substantially more, I feel like I got a good deal. 👍
My bad ... mine is Burled Ash Vintage Sunburst
A 5 way switch with splitted position on 4 and 2 would be great. I hate push pull. Why not a push push at least?
I think they should drop SE from the name. That stands for "Student Edition" and is not descriptive of the professional quality that these models exude. I can't think of any better name, but it's just kind of weird to hang on to those letters as nice as these guitars are
Jacob Smith I mean you can be a student at the most prestigie guitar school though

Ok but are they available in models without the trem systems?
Will the mark holcomb se signature model also get the updated headstock logo as well? That would be so badass!
Mahogany Neck??
You did the Custom 24 coil split on neck pickup, and then you didn't compare it to the Custom 22 coil split on neck pickup, but on the middle position.
I'll take one of each please
22 for me. I don't like the bridge position on the 24.
Exactly. There's too much room at the end of the guitar having the bridge and pickups too close to the neck. It doesn't look balanced / proportioned.
And 24 frets sucks
Guys, the bridge position doesn't change. It's an optical Illusion. If it did, that would mean the scale length is different, and it isn't. The fretboard is longer on the 24, which shifts the neck pickup closer to the bridge. Nothing involving the bridge (or bridge pickup) changes.
A 22! This is exciting!!!!!
the best sounding guitars prs makes. hands down
Nice video.
Would the width of the frets be wider on the custom 22 given the fact there are 2 less frets compared to the custom 24?
I think the neck pickup is silty further down to accommodate the two extra frets on the 24. So you'll get a slightly different tone on the neck pick up. (I think)
Great sound for 700-850$
just bought a mint(thats how its advertised) 2019 SE 24 in tobacco burst open box $389....its on route. looking forward to seeing how my first PRS is
I found one for 515 super excited for it
I know you make the Semi hollow with trem in the s2's. Wish you had a 22 semi with trem in the SE. Still I love my SE's.
They do and it's great!
This was the best year for the 22 fret. The blade switch takes away the ability to ad a second volume for those of us who love to ride the middle position and create lots of tones with adjusting the volumes of the individual pickups. It's a shame it was changed.

they are now!:)
What is the price of both?
Is there a solid reason that the SE custom 22s never have coil splitting?
Sparkplug1034 probably to keep cost down but you can always get it done
Jacob Behounek I'm surprised the 22 would cost more before the $10 electronics upgrade
I'm guessing it's supposed to me a more "vintage-inspired" instrument like a Les Paul, where as the 24 is a little more of a modern take.
erictoniaschwab1009 that makes the most sense to me I guess, but still, having a split option and keeping it off doesn't change the tone, just gives you the option, ya know?
Ceriatone yeti
The main difference is in the neck pickup position, which changes the sound. Why didn't he explain that?
some confusion on this video as you can clearly see the custom 22 SE has more space between the pickups; which gives the neck pick up a better sound. My 2017 PRS custom 22 SE has the split coil "pull up tone" knob, i'm not sure what they've done since then but you will NEVER get my guitar away from me-i love it!
still waiting for a lefty;(
Dexl Ejsjsiwiid Not anymore :^)
Why is the switch "too far" in the 22?
Does the 22 coil tap? I mean on the 2018 or 2019
I know the 2018 coil taps.
Maple necks?! Hmm...
what is the difference between the SE series and the regular?
Jon Schøning the SE is a less expensive line, using veneer on the body , simpler neck construction, cheaper electronics and hardware etc
can they play metal? can they take a beating when it comes to gain? I actually have tried an se custom 24 years ago but I was only a kid at that time, but I consider getting one cause I love PRS's.
no they dont do metal....U HAVE TO BE THE METAL.
Check out Opeth to see how they go Metal.
Will the SE standard be getting similar updates? I'm primarily referring to the pickups and the logo
From what Lee Anderton said when he reviewed the new SE's, the Standards are going to stay the same. They are the true "student editions" of the PRS line-up.
erictoniaschwab1009 dang alright, thanks! I didn't watch the Anderton's review, so I missed that
May I ask if there's a difference in neck size?
I have smaller fingers and find it harder/uncomfortable to play on thicker necks.
Wabin22 Both the custom 22/24 only come in the pattern thin neck profile.
1:08 never thought a prs could scream like that.
LOL than you dont listen to the right PRS players
mouhamad hafiana two words...Mark Tremonti
+PRS Tremonti nope.
Oh, definitely yes
Hi, I'm from Malaysia. New here with my first PRS SE Custom 24.. May i know any different between Korea made and Indonesia made?
Se Custom made in korea, se standard made in Indonesia
Oki Oktami Yuda That’s incorrect. Most SE Customs, including both of mine, are made in Indonesia now. GREAT guitars.

I owned a Epiphone SG-400 Pro but sold it because the neck felt too long. I just don't want that to happen with the custom 24 if I order one.
NICE!
Its disappointing that you make customers settle for an electronics spec they might not want, just because a particular number of frets is important to them. They should be identically spec'd otherwise.
Mark Homiak electronics are identical as of 2018. I know the 2019 versions are identical.
guitar is good
There's more top end in custom 24.
I want an SE 22 with a hardtail.
then give the tremelo bar to someone who can use it; kids in India are starving for whammy bars...
24
The guitar somehow sounds strained to me...
PRS just doesn't do it for me. Too thin sounding and has a very uncomfortable body. To each his own though.
Wow,they put Paul Reed Smith's signaturE on the headstock and replaced the crappy, korean copies of their US Made pickups, with a different set of crappy korean copies. So much upgrading!! What a joke.

They did in fact change the nut in the middle of the 2018 run from what I know from trying many different PRS guitars from all ranges (except wood library and private stock) from late October up until now. The SEs I tried stay in tune like tanks and the Korean ones were definately on par with the American ones (even a Silver Sky I tried had a worse tuning stability than the SE Custom 24 I tried that same day), so don't worry
Still has the SE but under the Cheap looking PRS Signature. Prefer my Bernie Marsden Signature name on the headstock.
R MOORE no one cares
