They would realize that art is about being honest and genuine, and that forcing yourself to sound like another band-is the exact opposite of being honest and genuine. If they cared about the “art of music”, they would realize that art is about creating something that is new and different. If they cared about the “art of music” they would realize that art is supposed to be enlightening, and that you can’t really make something enlightening if what you’re doing has been done a million times before. Every hard rock band that came out in the 70s and 80s tried to rip off Zeppelin, and ended up making some of the worst music ever. And now it’s 2018 and these guys are not only trying to sound like Zeppelin - they are trying to LITERALLY sound EXACTLY, IDENTICALLY, the same as Zeppelin. And that is not what the art of music is supposed to be about. They are extremely talented musicians and they also seem like nice people, so it’s a shame to see them waste their potential for great art.
Chris Serpicø ok, so I really don’t want to be rude or for you to take this in the wrong way, but I think your idea of the “art of music” is slightly misconstrued. First, I would like to point out that I saw in some of your other comments you mentioning other artists who you believed were amazing. You mentioned people such as The Beatles, Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, etc etc... what you’re missing here, and frankly what you are missing about Led Zep as well, is that when they began they were all imitations of what came before them. Hell, Bob Dylan’s first album was literally a cover album as he played in the folk tradition. Not only did he try to sound exactly like Woody Guthrie for awhile but he even stole other people’s arrangements for songs, such as Dave Van Ronk’s version of “House of the Rising Sun”. However, he still grew into one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century. Moving on to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, and bands of that sort. They ALL started by playing covers of other songs and playing blues music, a genre that, sure it wasn’t mainstream, but still was not being original by any stretch. They too went on to be some of the most influential bands of the 20th century. Finally, Zeppelin themselves. Are you serious? Do you think they were original in any way when they began? They developed into their own sound from a roots base, and even after they developed their own sound they still had lawsuits against them for taking other people’s music! Yet do you still think all of these bands and musicians above still loved the “art of music”? Hell yeah they did! But everyone has to start from somewhere and they will develop into their own sound eventually. GVF is in their first year of really making music for the public. They are talented guys and they will sooner or later develop into their own sounds as the others did. And does lacking “their own sound” right now negate the fact that they love the art of music? No, not in any way.
Leandra Purvis Ok, I appreciate your respectful response and that you took the time to make it. And you do make some good points. However: If you look at my comment of “artists” that made great art; you will not see Led Zeppelin. Almost every song off their first four albums was stolen (not covered). That is why I don’t really consider them as great artists. But as far as saying they weren’t original or innovative - that’s absolutely crazy. Literally nothing sounded like them before. They invented heavy metal before Black Sabbath. Yes, they played music that was heavily influenced by the blues, but it sounded nothing like the blues. There had never been a drummer like John Bonham, a guitarist like Jimmy Page, a bassist like JP Jones, or a singer like Robert Plant. Next, with regards to the Beatles and Dylan; again your points just aren’t valid. First, music was not even considered an art form until Dylan and the Beatles changed that in around 65. And yes, Dylan was heavily influenced by Woody Guthrie but it was still vastly different. You would never mistake anything past 64 from Dylan as even resembling a Woody Guthrie song. And that’s because he realized what art was supposed to be about. With the Beatles, again, they did covers but you would never mistake them for another band. And once they realized, like Dylan, how music was supposed to be, they never looked back. And even before they became legitimate artists, they were writing absolutely brilliant pop music, and even before Dylan evolved he was writing absolutely brilliant folk music. The whole point is that after Dylan and The Beatles, you have no excuse to not know what makes a good artist and what makes a bad one. Finally, you didn’t actually address some of my most important points; Music MUST be honest and genuine. And once again, The Beatles and Dylan were NEVER EVER EVER disingenuous. When John sang Twist and shout, you knew he was being real. When Paul sang Yesterday, you knew he was being Real. And when Dylan sang Blowin in the wind, you knew he meant it. My whole point is that it is impossible for GVF to make something that isn’t disingenuous when everything they do is contrived. Even the hand gestures Josh(?) makes, are the exact same as Plant’s. All that really matters is that if every artist strived to be like The Beatles and Bob Dylan, we would be hearing non stop brilliance every year. But if every artist strived to be like GVF, then music would literally die. There would be no point for anyone to make music because everything would be a less good, generic version of the artist’s biggest influence.
Chris Serpicø I’m not going to keep going back and forth with you because honestly, we will never agree. I think our ideas of what constitutes as the the “art of music” are fundamentally different and there’s nothing we can do to change each other’s opinions. However, I would just like to say that your idea that music was not even considered an art form until 65 is one of the most ignorant things I have heard. If you don’t enjoy GVF you don’t have to listen to them, but I enjoy them as they are and I believe they respect the art of music.
Honestly, Greta Van Fleet is actually very original. Ticks me off when people say they aren’t original. Their style, the tasteful lyrics, they’re undeniably talented musicians. They have this sense of uniqueness to each and every one of the band members that compliments each other very well. With that being said, They’re bringing rock and roll back to life and all under 24. Sure Josh sounds like Robert plant...quit being so critical and give him props because he’s had no vocal lessons nor does he push or mimic his vocals to resemble Robert plant. It’s completely natural. Don’t even get me started on Sammy, Daniel and Jake...WICKED TALENTED MUSICIANS. All self taught. That’s the divine universe flowing to and from them, gifting and gracing these four individuals with the greatest potential of growth and spirituality through music. It’s truly humbling for them Im sure. To be compared to legends in this industry, is when you know you’ve made it. It would be amazing to see this band live. Without a doubt. Dragan M Lol it’s not about being right or wrong. Josh uses hand movements a ton when he speaks, you can tell it’s natural when he uses them when he sings as well. Josh’s accent is so lovely here, I could listen to these guys all day whether it’s for their voices or their mannerisms and how passionate they are when talking about the music they love and how it makes them feel. Just listen to them explain their song Flower Power, one of their biggest hits~ writing songs in a day is exactly how The Beatles came to rise and dominate the world with peace and love. We need this band more than anything and I hope they realize how extraordinarily special their connection is with our collective conscious.

I love these guys. I am 57 years old and I definitely hear the Zeppelin influence. They have a great work ethic, these guys love playing live. If I could make a few recommendations to them it would be to take some time off of the road. Listen to a lot of old and new music individually and together. Last of all during this time, jam a lot. Jamming is where you really find your voice collectively as a band . For whatever it's worth, that's what I think.
Saw a clip with Josh singing "If not for You" with Jake on slide guitar and Sam on keyboard. It was magical. I wish they would play the whole thing sometime. PLEASE GUYS!!
Now I see why they're so good. They listen to old school stuff even if it's too mellow for most of today's avant garde douchebags who all think they've reinvented the wheel.
I didn't think I could like these guys more but when Josh said he was into John Denver, it took me to an even higher level with them. I don't really know whats the deal with this band. But the impact they have made on me musically is major. The second I heard Black Smoke I knew this was one of the truly great bands of my lifetime. I wonder if they know, I mean really know how significant there into onto the musical landscape is. They are very young. It's exciting to see them in there infancy at least as a major world wide act. Plus, they are as likable as can be. I could talk music and guitars with them all day. I can't wait to see them live. Oh yes. I will be there. Count on that friend. 😎😀
Josh is an incredible vocalist & as a front man he & the audience feed off of each other extremely well. Few artists have the crowd chants that Greta Van Fleet has.
you know when you hear someone sing and think OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS PERSON? well i've never heard of you but that 2 second clip in the beginning DEFINITELY GOT MY HEART PUMPING
I LOVE how these guys acknowledge and respect past musicians!! After hearing these guys talk/sing/perform, it puts my faith back into humanidity!! I am sooooooo sick and tired of the same ol' Hip-Hop songs about bitches and big booty's playing non-stop on the radio!! These guys really do 🤘🤘!
I love flower power. That whole album really. I do really feel like that album is underrated. You keep hearing all the constant comparisons, but I can just sit down and listen to that album from time to time and I truly enjoy it. It makes me feel like I’m outside by the lake during the summer as the sun is going down, and all of my friends are there, and there’s a girl there who keeps glancing over at me while I’m doing the same and then we start talking and have a great night
How old are they again? Such old souls,I LOVE these guys everyone of them....We need them, right now....I can't get enough,if you guys read this keep the little videos you guys do,so funny and love to watch your WORLD!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!! You won't regret it one day...
Josh and Jake will be turning 23 in the third week of April, Sam will be turning 20 at the beginning of April, and Danny will be turning 20 at the end of December.
My mom would love Josh for saying he likes John Denver. John Denver is nice. Sometime folk music is the way to go. The boys got a nice taste of music. Here I thought I was the only young person that loved old music. And with Flower Power, I love that song. I like a lot of Greta Van Fleet songs. Flower Power is very moving.
The very first track that I remember jamming out to, age 5, on vinyl was Eddie Rabbit. Love a rainy night.. Was my grandparents record.. The next was the Grease soundtrack .. WOW that was 40yrs ago
I'm BLASTING GVF TUNES everywhere I drive to. Windows rolled down & making sure everbody knows! I discovered them a week ago!(I saw a news post with two profile pics, Kurt Cobain & Josh Kiszka of Greta Van Fleet.) Curiosity lead to learning about this tight knit rock band! We got our Las Vegas concert tickets for 9/27! May they continue to EVOLVE! I'm 40 & my son's 14 yrs young! For the love of music & peace! Rock On!🤘🏻🤟🏼✌🏼
The maturity of their music knowledge is PROFOUND .. Very VERY seldom you hear a musician speak of other artists with such depth of knowledge Who talks about Lou Reed so eloquently .." Yeah Lou so this walk on the wild side ...... was that East or West Village?" (Only NawYawkas will get the reference)
Music should be nothing but original and not censored. I will say you guys being young and having an opinion your music sounds good I love it. Inspiration comes suddenly and magic is not real. You guys rock man. Take it from an old musician that played a few shows. You made it in a time that wasn’t favorable to you but you heard great music and learned. That is your success.
These guys rule! , can't wait to see them live someday just found them a week ago and I haven't listened to anything else lol ...... say whatever ya want .....I like unusual folk deep eagle mountain trippy river metal peace stuff and this hits every note. And I hope they go as far as they can go
Im 20. I remember when I first heard Lou Reeds satellite of love, ironically from the shitty movie Adventureland. Lou Reed was the greatest living musician, outside of David Bowie. Velvet undergrounds Heroin, Sister Ray, and after hours are my favorite songs ever. Lou's vicious and perfect day are awesome!
This is these boys' time. They got it all right now. Youth, hair, skin, energy, talent, prowess, humility, sweetness.. I don't want to go to hell for pointing out their dad.
'If Not For You' - Don't forget about the Olivia Newton John version, maybe her first hit. Bob Dylan wrote a lot of great songs about love and hate, especially in the seventies. Satellite of Love, another great one. These guys have great taste in music, products of solid parenting skills.

I screamed when i saw this. They are the cutest most humbling people. I wish i could meet them one day if the fates allow.
It feels like this could go on forever. They are so honest and sincere about the music they love. It's a rare thing but it shouldn't be.
Josh literally looks like the child of James Franco and Frodo Baggins
If u think josh and Sam deserve their own talk show then like and repost
They always seem to be so happy. LOVE that.
Frankly that's why i can't stand them.. talk about taking the teeth out of rock n roll.....
Daniel Daniel Calm down little boy
@@ianprescott7924 i know u like soft gay rock that gets u dancing like GVF said in this video as flower childs but rock has teeth ask Jim Morrison, Axl Rose, Johnny Rotten Ozzy, etc, sadly GVF has none. They sip tea, go to bed by 9pm and feel one with the universe.
Daniel Daniel Oh so you’re into boring ass 70s dad rock lmao rip
@@ianprescott7924, so said the gay rocker Onagaku Haze with no teeth that Axl, Ozzy [just few examples of many] that these are 70s rockers, no wonder u like GVF & fyi Jim Morrison is from the 60s 😊
“You know” 🤪
I love their take on music and life they can see sense and feel that deeper meaning music has and once you reach that level you can go anywhere
As someone in their early 20s that grew up with all kinds of older music, I love their care and maturity.
josh is so cute, I love his personality ❤️
Fleet Foxes are amazing. Glad they recognize greatness
I love the way Josh talks
Best comment here.
I love that they love fleet foxes
Yesssssss!!!!!
Listening to you guys talk and knowing your young age I am so impressed at how well spoken you guys are.
sammy's laugh @ 3:25 cured my depression
I am so glad to meet you boys as I have been complaining about the music since the nineties and you are a breath of fresh air.
Me too! Instantly obsessed. I am not a young gal but I know talent when I see/hear it. As soon as I heard Black Smoke Rising, I was done!
Josh is an incredible vocalist & as a front man he & the audience feed off of each other extremely well. Few artists have the crowd chants that Greta Van Fleet has.
Please do one with Jake and Danny too
you know when you hear someone sing and think OH MY GOD I LOVE THIS PERSON? well i've never heard of you but that 2 second clip in the beginning DEFINITELY GOT MY HEART PUMPING
These guys are so genuine.
Great list with fleet foxes as the cherry on top. Well done, lads.
It's 2018 and I'm infatuated with a boy that has a rat tail. WHAT IS HAPPENING?
okay big mood
Everyone one of these men in Greta van fleet is absolutely beautiful. Inside and out.
I love flower power. That whole album really. I do really feel like that album is underrated. You keep hearing all the constant comparisons, but I can just sit down and listen to that album from time to time and I truly enjoy it. It makes me feel like I’m outside by the lake during the summer as the sun is going down, and all of my friends are there, and there’s a girl there who keeps glancing over at me while I’m doing the same and then we start talking and have a great night
theyre the cutest humans in the whole existence. im in love :)
yes
How old are they again? Such old souls,I LOVE these guys everyone of them....We need them, right now....I can't get enough,if you guys read this keep the little videos you guys do,so funny and love to watch your WORLD!!! THANKS FOR SHARING!!! You won't regret it one day...
Josh is 22 and Sam is currently 19
Josh and Jake will be turning 23 in the third week of April, Sam will be turning 20 at the beginning of April, and Danny will be turning 20 at the end of December.
I really didnt expect to hear them talk about fleet foxes, much less my favorite song by them, that was cool!
josh has the same speech as robert sheehan in the show misfits. i could just imagine josh saying "nice cardigan"
OK, OK, I got it. Sammy is attractive and is wearing shoes and Josh says, "Ya know."
I’m an old rocker and I love these guys can’t wait to see them ons day
they’re music taste is pristine. mykonos is out of this world
So sweet and funny and sincere. Plus Mykonos is such a great song. Beautiful and enigmatic. I love these guys.
This makes me happy. Music is so powerful. Keep the music going and please stay focused on ur trade and not on drugs.
Love this discussion by these two talented, deep BROTHERS! Thank you...Was a young person in CA during Flower Power era.
What's those things on Sam's feet? 🤔
Good looking, talented, genuine, humble, funny.
Rock On!🤘🏻🤟🏼✌🏼
I could listen to them talk about music all day
their smiles are just perfect
The maturity of their music knowledge is PROFOUND .. Very VERY seldom you hear a musician speak of other artists with such depth of knowledge Who talks about Lou Reed so eloquently .." Yeah Lou so this walk on the wild side ...... was that East or West Village?"
(Only NawYawkas will get the reference)
They are so cute, and talented, I'm glad they put flower power on there, and four other good songs
And I hope they go as far as they can go
deep eagle mountain trippy river metal peace stuff wow
They have great taste in music !! They have important things to say very critical thinkers - They have such magic and wonderment about them
I’m not used to seeing sammy with shoes
Very interesting list. Totally agree with Fleet Foxes Mykonos! They are fantastic. Enjoying THE as well.😊
"If Not For You", love that song. Olivia Newton -John also recorded it
I like these guys, genuine musicians.
mykonos and flower power give me life
True romantics, absolutely love them and their music 🎶.
All of their tunes are essential.
03:00 Sam's face like "wtf you're talking about"
Greta van Fleet amazing band you know... One of the best even in these early stages you know...lol Keep Rocking guys! You know...
Again,,,,,, these guys simply light up the world!!!!! Ahhhhh….. ❤️
they are great, fantastic boys, fantastic musicians, for me they are the greatest, love them and their music
This is these boys' time. They got it all right now. Youth, hair, skin, energy, talent, prowess, humility, sweetness.. I don't want to go to hell for pointing out their dad.
love going back to see the guys and how they have progressed......they're still the BAND!!!!yea!!!!here's to 2021 and seeing them live....please...
OMG how mature these kids are.....Josh is what 22? their parents should be so proud to raise such intelligent and talented boys!
These guys are pretty cool for sure, great sense of humor too.
Personally i like this band. After a decade we didnt see any band have all package of vocal , skills n songs..all pretty
Flower Power is my fav GVF song. Great song
'If Not For You' - Don't forget about the Olivia Newton John version, maybe her first hit. Bob Dylan wrote a lot of great songs about love and hate, especially in the seventies.
Satellite of Love, another great one. These guys have great taste in music, products of solid parenting skills.
I LOVE their love for music!!🩷🩷🩷
