I remember getting completely caught by surprise when this came up in the manga. I mean, Kidd (and Law) took down Big Mom, and he took a massive beating then but just kept fighting. For Shanks to take him out in *one hit* puts him a full step higher in strength (just like there is a full step between a yonko and their right-hand man)

well Shanks didn't have time to play around like big mom he saw that kid was going to destroy his entire fleet if he didn't take kid out in one go which says a lot more of kid than Shanks if you think about it
