As always , you are a wealth of information Dave. The history of your employment with Cumberland is quite interesting. My dad said he remembers the old brand new US Steel equipment when steel was King in our area of Ohio. He said it was the proudest time of his life when we made things in the US and didn't import everything. Your pride in your job is really obvious and it says a lot about you. Thanks for taking us all along for the " ride".

Alex Drake. I'm from Western Australia. I know how your father feels when he mentioned regarding steel. Western Australia has the biggest iron ore export in Australia. Selling to China. We then buy the product back from China. Rio Tinto have an office in the City. Perth. The price of steel has almost doubled recently. Someone is making a lot of money and its not me.

I was thinking about the concrete ties. One solution could be to have duplicate switches mounted two inches apart and relays to select the current height by selecting the upper or lower set of switches. That'll make it possible to make a button select between wood and concrete. Awesome video as always, Dave! You're the best ambassador for railroading there is!

    • @ccrx6700
      @ccrx6700  2 ปีที่แล้ว

You are a thinking man Kristian! I like that. Some tampers do
have a 5th limit switch for that purpose. The Jupiter 2 operating system did away with the limit switches and you can toggle on
the computer screen between concrete and wood ties. We are
looking into an upgrade on my tamper to a Jupiter 2 system. Lot
of money and time to get accomplished, I will keep you
informed about how that pans out. Gonna do a vid sometime
in the way future on the differences between concrete and wood
ties, there is more involved than just the tamper limit switches why we
don't use them. Concrete ties are perfect for light transit applications
however, There is a lot to discuss about the differences, too much
      to put in a comment.

Good Intro. I appreciate the facts and figures, practices, coal info, etc.
Years ago my wife and I lived in Neu Joisey. Most of our travel during that 3.5 years was to PA. I am a Westerner and prefer the West, but PA did become my favorite Eastern state. The last thing we did together before she died suddenly was to ride a train .
So now I am back in my rural northeastern corner of California. They tore up the tracks here so I never get to see a train anymore unless I go down to Reno for appointments or shopping.
So anyway I have seen the intro and appreciate the link. You are a good video narrator.

Thanks for the additional information in this video, Dave. Number 1 has a bad case of cancer in her nose/cab area. I hope one day she'll get a top-to-bottom overhaul and repaint to keep her looking fresh and new for the beginning of her second 50-years. Those SD38-2's are probably worth their weight in gold to many railroads. I bet many railroad power managers wish that they could buy brand new ones yet today. Under appreciated in it's time of production.

The background of your railroad is something I had not known as a newcomer here, but I have to admit; those locomotives make such a pretty sound when they are idling it almost gives me goosebumps. Here in Southern Oregon {Medford} We had the Southern Pacific Locomotives for years. And some point they Changed to The CORP Locomotives but I think they are the Old Southern Pacific's repainted? They Look just like what You have there. I have seen as Many as 5 Engines working our small Yard here. its close enough that I can walk over in the Morning and watching them working the Yard. I can also pick them up on My Scanner at 160.455. Now that I'm retired I sure like spending time watching the trains work the Yard. But it's the only one in the area. I'am just a short drive from the famous Tunnle 13 on the Oregon/California Border. Thanks so Much Dave for sharing all this great RR information.

A VERY informative video! You finally inspired me to trace the whole route on Google Maps. CCRX sure does have lots of curves and bridges. The engine and train consist info was also interesting- it makes a lot of sense. Now I know why you smile so much- it is like working in Disneyland- they are an amusement park with railroads and Cumberland is a mine with a railroad. (I actually knew a guy who operated the Disney monorail as a retirement job.) Here is an idea for another video- you could tell us some differences between the mine railroad and a "regular" railroad. Thank You!

I particularly enjoyed you telling about the history of the company, the railroad, and how all the coal is off loaded barges. Add to that, your work history with the company. Dave, I've only been watching your videos a short time but I was really thinking how many skills sets you have. I've seen you working on stuff that would be "Signals division" in a big rail road...I've seen you working tracks, I've seen you on an engine. You don't get all of that at a big railroad. That's pretty awesome 👍

Dave, once again a great video of the Cumberland mine RR, great idea for the new comers and a good refresher for us older subs. You could do this once a year, I would still enjoy the history lesson. And thanks for the shout out in the description. Appreciate that buddy, Happy Easter.

Cannot say a single bad thing about our new owners. They are faced

Oh My 1977! I hate to say but I was in high school then, watching conrail
and the fallen flags of western NY. there was two sets of tracks that went
thought the town I lived in, national gypsum & N.Y. Central to the north
and it was behind my high school. both are now bike / walking trails.
I miss all the old systems that ran in my area. you can still find some
of the old RR marks on some bridges. thank you for the up dated info
