What gets me about the Netflix protesters is that Dave first extended this olive branch WITHIN the special. This olive branch was not a reaction from Dave. Dave was the proactive with this. I think these protesters knew Dave would be an easy target for this based on Dave's history and reputation. To me, this looks like a few people trying get their 15 minutes based on conflict that has already been addressed. Dave's entire point wasn't to shut up about LGBTQ+ concerns. His point was to keep that same energy with all issues of marginalized people. This isn't a difficult concept to understand people.

I watched Dave Chappelle’s entire comedy show. Yes, he did do a joke about a transgender women. However to after he told the ENTIRE story, I felt like he was telling the tragic story of a friend. I think that if we actually listened to the story, we would hear about a tragedy. A tragedy that ALL of us should work to end. Dave Chappelle’s comedy show will reach people who never have any interest in the mistreatment of the transgender community. His special will compel some of those people to take a deeper look at the prejudice the LGBTQ+ community has to deal with. I know some people agree with the protesters. That Dave Chappelle should be cancelled. But as an ADOS/ black cisgender woman, I have to think about the struggles my people are still dealing with. Those struggles aren’t over. And I realize that everyone is not going to be whatever the current pc is. But you know, I don’t want everyone to be pc. I believe we still need the envelope pushers. A few comedians were Paul Mooney, Dick Gregory, and Richard Pryor. Traditionally, comedians use their comedy to say the things everyone else is afraid to say. They either help us move forward or show us how bad our past is. Either way, they help us. In addition, this is a slippery slope. One of the pillars of our society is freedom of speech. Some people want to cancel Chappelle because of what he said. What will the trans community do if a person says something they agree with. But that person is vilified by substantial number of people. I believe an occurrence like that will make the trans community start talking about freedom of speech. Times are changing. For some trans people the change is not happening fast enough. I get that. But doesn’t the trans community real change. If a person is bending themselves into a pretzel and not making real change,that pretzel will break. I want REAL equality for everyone. However, now I feel like I’m under attack. I feel like I have to walk on eggshells. This feeling has the potential to make me resentful. That’s not the mindset the LGBTQ + wants me to have. In closing , I want to say the enemy is not only the visible Trump supporter. It’s the person that talks to me at work and votes for Trump in secret. Over 50% of Caucasians voted for Trump in the last election. Those are the people who are digging their heels in on this issue. That’s who you have to win over. And you won’t do it by trying to change them by force.

I watched Dave Chappelle’s entire comedy show. Yes, he did do a joke about a transgender women. However to after he told the ENTIRE story, I felt like he was telling the tragic story of a friend. I think that if we actually listened to the story, we would hear about a tragedy. A tragedy that ALL of us should work to end. Dave Chappelle’s comedy show will reach people who never have any interest in the mistreatment of the transgender community. His special will compel some of those people to take a deeper look at the prejudice the LGBTQ+ community has to deal with. I know some people agree with the protesters. That Dave Chappelle should be cancelled. But as an ADOS/ black cisgender woman, I have to think about the struggles my people are still dealing with. Those struggles aren’t over. And I realize that everyone is not going to be whatever the current pc is. But you know, I don’t want everyone to be pc. I believe we still need the envelope pushers. A few comedians were Paul Mooney, Dick Gregory, and Richard Pryor. Traditionally, comedians use their comedy to say the things everyone else is afraid to say. They either help us move forward or show us how bad our past is. Either way, they help us. In addition, this is a slippery slope. One of the pillars of our society is freedom of speech. Some people want to cancel Chappelle because of what he said. What will the trans community do if a person says something they agree with. But that person is vilified by substantial number of people. I believe an occurrence like that will make the trans community start talking about freedom of speech. Times are changing. For some trans people the change is not happening fast enough. I get that. But doesn’t the trans community real change. If a person is bending themselves into a pretzel and not making real change,that pretzel will break. I want REAL equality for everyone. However, now I feel like I’m under attack. I feel like I have to walk on eggshells. This feeling has the potential to make me resentful. That’s not the mindset the LGBTQ + wants me to have. In closing , I want to say the enemy is not only the visible Trump supporter. It’s the person that talks to me at work and votes for Trump in secret. Over 50% of Caucasians voted for Trump in the last election. Those are the people who are digging their heels in on this issue. That’s who you have to win over. And you won’t do it by trying to change them by force.
Flame Monroe would also be a great addition to the Trans Town Hall.

I have a 14 year old and Cuties didn’t “bother” me. I think the movie did what it was supposed to do expose the sexualization of children. I think it didn’t go far enough the movie didn’t spotlight the predators who are ready to take advantage of the children once they go that route.
@Truth Speaks it really wasn’t the way people were making it out to be. A lot of people missed the message. Sexual exploitation of children happens more than the public knows.
