It’s possible that Irons created Atlas with noble intentions in order to make the world a better place. But, once his son died for what he considered to be a pointless war, I think he just completely lost sight of everything. It was no longer about doing the right thing. It was doing whatever he could to take full control of the world’s choices so that what happened to him and his son never happened again. I can’t agree with some of the things that Irons did throughout this campaign, but when I take a deeper look at the motivation, I can understand where he’s coming from

Man cod games have always had decent stories but there was such a wasted opertunity here. Instead of killing will they should have kept him alive and the campaign revolves around will and Mitchel having diverging ideologies, with Mitchel siding more with irons and will siding more with the sentinels. At the climax you're forced to choose between siding with Irons and his new world order idea or with the Sentinels protecting the status quo. In the final mission if you chose Will you have to kill your best friend and/or your dad for the good of the world and if you chose Mitchel the reverse happens with you killing Will and maybe Illona.
I just love how they emphasised on this idea of “will and Michael are the best soldiers we have” , even though one died and one mortally wounded on the first fuken mission. If you’re gonna press F to pay respects, you need to press F for all those 6000 other soldiers as well.
