I watched Transamerica few months ago.. then I googled Felicity Hoffman. I am in shocked that she sidnt won the Oscar! Because she is fucking brilliant in that movie!! She deserves the Oscar!!!!
One of the worst mistakes Oscar ever made was giving it to Reese over her. Reese was so obviously a supporting actress in Walk the Line, and not even close to Lead Actress.
Felicity also deserved the Oscar so much more than Reese that same year. She so overwhelmingly won this category that her losing to Reese for a less full lived in performance is insulting. She played a woman playing a man who wanted to be a woman - there is nothing more complex or deep than that compared to playing a woman who was the wife of Johnny cash. Ten years later if this were still the contest... Felicity would have won. I don't know why AMPAS didn't go with her: her show was the hottest and most relevant pop culture item in the country at the moment and she is a veteran character actor - everyone would have celebrated that win way more than Reese's - making it a more memorable win. Unfortunately lead actress has become a female Hollywood queen/royalty coronation in recent years. See: Kate winslet, Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore, cate blanchett, Meryl Streep, Jennifer Lawrence... No disrespect or shade to those ladies... It just worked in line to award Reese at the time.
although I sort of agree with you, in ten years it wouldn’t work that way either since they would NEVER cast a Cis Gender Woman to play a Trans woman. Luckily things are finally changing.

Not to mention the film was about queer matters .The Academy was about 95/91 white and male and the average age was about 60 plus. So of course these old misogynistic homophobes would go for the hot young actress over an older actress playing a queer part.
I wonder what Reese feels, to know in her heart everytime she looks at her Oscar, that everyone thinks its undeserved. She should had been nominated for "Election" back in 1999, but after her win, her career went downfall, got divorced, and is no way near of a nomination ever, or at leat so far, GO FELICITY everyone is backing you!
