Casey is so on point with the college discussion and not rushing it. I flunked out of high school at 17 and got my GED. I cooked professionally from 18 years to 31 years old. I had a great career as an executive chef but was burnt out; I really regretted flunking out of high school and college and decided to make a change. At 31 years old, I went back to community college, then a university, and finished my bachelor's. In 2018 I started a graduate program; in 2019, I finished my Master, and currently, I'm only a few months from finishing my Ph.D. When I am done with school, I will have gone from a GED to Ph.D. in 8.5 years. Because my field is in such high demand, I was hired prior to finishing school with full salary, benefits, etc. During grad school, we lived an hour from Seven Springs in PA, so we got to ride every weekend. I worked at the resort for extra money and free passes. The job I took in 2021 is in Salt Lake City, our dream location. Now I have a great job, and I get to snowboard as much as I want at world-class resorts with my kids every weekend. We are living the actual dream. My point is you don't need to figure it out now; take your time, but always be thinking about the future. I am lucky that I have a supportive family, wife, and kids to help get me through school. It sounds corny, but with enough hard work, sacrifice, and discipline, you can accomplish whatever you want. The higher education system is not perfect or even good; you need to have a plan and research every career carefully. You need to understand what the demand is for certain positions, what degree/credentials you need, and what the general pay is. College is a good thing if you have a good plan and follow through. Decide what you really want, what it takes to get there, and fully, fully, and I mean FULLY, commit. Work hard, play harder.

College is nothing compare to experience, ESPECIALLY nowadays where sooooo many people go to college, it really muddies down what having a college degree was about. I failed out of college my sophomore year and just kinda bounced around working how I could. Turned 24 and realized I need to focus on my future. So I just went and got a real estate license (super easy, maybe 8 months of classes total plus the exam and background check). Was blessed enough to get hired into an amazing management company with a good mentor and now 4 years later, I’m training people with college degrees. Education means VERY little without the life experiences to back it up.

Super glad I didn't listen to my family and go the college route, now I'm 25 making $100k+ in sales while working from home. Life is wild you gotta take the opportunities that are given to you and run with them.
