    I had a '74 Honda CB350 4 cyl about 45 years ago and your bike really got me reminiscing. One of the most practical and reliable bikes I ever owned. Need to change a 2 cable system on a later bike and it has a TON of fairings, false panels, and other plastic crap that has to be removed to even attempt doing what you're doing here. Starting to really wish I had that old 350 back, hehe. Thanks for the vid, very helpful.

    Becky, I started watching your videos after purchasing a 1975 Honda CB200T - same color as yours. Three weeks have passed and I want to thank you for your work. With your pointers, I've probably avoided making several mishaps. It's also great to see someone else jumping in and working on their own bike. By the way, I've found the Honda CB200 shop manual to be more helpful and exact than Clymers. Also, big shout out to the Hondatwins website and forum. A great community of experienced vintage Honda owners helping each other.

    Great video I have been searching how to disconnect the throttle cable to the valve on my SL350 ! this video helped as carbs look the same

    Thanks for that Becky, big help! I used to have a CB200 in the UK but I was never daring enough to take it that far apart. Tomorrow I'm replacing the Throttle cable on my Chinese Honda CG125 clone, with a lot more confidence after watching your video.

    Thanks Becky! I bought the exact same bike to learn to wrench on. I had to have my local shop rebuild part of the cable because it was fraying and the exact same thing happened when I put it back together. You saved me days of troubleshooting! Thanks!

    Becky - Let me add to the chorus of 'thank you's'; THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! Had the exact same problem replacing the cable on my SL175. Your vid totally saved my bacon (not to mention the cost and trouble of hauling the bike off to a mechanic!). So again, thanks!

    Thank you for the throttle cable video. A great help as I did the same thing.

    this totally helped me get my throttle cable properly installed on the carb end. I was getting really frustrated because the throttle was not working and I took it apart and put it back together like 10 times! It was the same mistake you made, the slide was backwards and not going down far enough. So thanks! Ps so good to get instruction from a woman :)

    Recommendations: Don't aim the camera where your hands are the main thing in the shot. Put the camera around the other way where your hands are behind the object being worked on. Add light as well. Black rubber and parts aren't seen well online.

    You can get bowden cables made, ask a local brakes, clutch or instrument (dash instrument, not musical instrument) specialist they often have the gear to do it in house - if you take the old ones in you could get new ones made to your specifications.
    It's going to be the internal (cable) to external (casing) ratio that matters for your tension, so the new cables must have slightly longer internal cable or slightly shorter external cable, or both, anyway end of the day a different ratio internal to external, the absolute length of the cable as a whole doesn't matter (for tension, but for fitting where it needs to go, it does, obviously) - you're a smart person I don't know why I'm explaining this to you I'm sure you can see how it works :-).
    You could of course have a look at a wreckers (whatever they call that in the states, wreckers here in NZ, "motor factors" in the UK I think is the term, maybe breakers in the US I think I've heard, anyway, place that takes old cars and/or bikes and sells you bits from them) to see if you can find a longer screw adjuster for the throttle end.

      Well, if I had known better, I could have seen that the slides weren't going down as much they should, but I don't know another way to tell before trying... a 500 twin! Don't see those around too often!

      One way to tell if they are seated correctly is to remove the air filter tube and filter. You can directly see how far seated they are.

    When you put the stopper back in, how exactly does that look? I took mine apart when I changed out my handle bars and now I can't figure out how to put it back together again :( Help! (oh, I have a 1980 cm200 Twinstar). It looks pretty similar except mine doesn't really have a feed for the stopper deal.

    I'm pretty surprised the cable goes straight into the carb like that, every carb i've worked on has a lever on the outside that the cable engages with, but i've never worked on an engine older than 1987. Is this a common design in older bikes, or is it a performance thing?

    • @BeckyStern
      @BeckyStern  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is my first bike so I don't really know how common it is! My shopmates' carbs are a single pull to a lever outside like you described, but when I inquired about a new cable at the service garage they didn't blink twice about the split, straight-into-carb style and grabbed me that black one from the beginning of the vid, so there have got to be a whole group of bikes that work like that! Deductive reasoning!

    • @Nessal83
      @Nessal83 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rob did you work mainly with carbs on cars? It's much more common for cars to have a cable and cam design that actuates the butterfly valve. It is designed this way on most small bikes because of space contraints that you don't have on cars.
