For some reason, when I read the premise on Steam I thought the hole was sapient, and that you would play as a hole that made friends with everybody but couldn't help but destroy everything you come into contact with. Eventually, this culminates in the hole getting so big that it threatens the entire town, then the world. It ends up destroyed in a tearful ending. But I got a cute and fun game about swallowing shit up. I like that you can go through again, level by level after you finish. This was such a fun game, and I'm glad I bought it after seeing your tweet.
5:00 "I'd rather have something short and entertaining, than long and boring as f@#%." As if the holes didn't give us enough innuendo fodder already...
This game looks like a lot of fun. Especially with the hole swallowing things like that. I think the stress relieving part of this can be imaging yourself as the hole and you're swallowing up all of your problems, annoying people in your life, and just about anything else that bothers you. Basically overpowering everything around you.
Such a vibrant visual style! This game must be fun; while watching you play I was like, "Roses, you've got to get that thing there, all the way to the back near the background! "Oh... that was a smudge on my screen." lol
As someone dealing with depression you're becoming my favorite youtuber. You're funny, entertaining, and I feel I can relate to you. I use games, tv, and movies the most to cope, and your videos too. I'm glad I found you through LGR. You're the best!
It's very rare that a modern game spikes my interest (I try! I promise!) But this one totally did! I definitely need to try this out the next time I'm having a bad stress/anxiety time. Thanks for putting this on my radar.
Totally agree with you about this helping depression a bit. It's really simple to get into and I had the first genuine laughs in a couple weeks playijg donut county this weekend
I am just one voice among thousands, but I sincerely hope that you feel better. You've always provided me with entertainment when I was down, and a laugh when I needed it. I hope that someone or something can provide the necessary relief and laughter that you have given me.
I'm struggling with it and other problems for years, helps a lot to get up early in the morning at the same hour, live in the sun, exercise and get small goals done. Consistency helps. All the best, like your channel a lot!
I'm sorry to hear you're down at the moment. Your videos are awesome and you always cheer me up, whatever time of day I watch. Which is usually extremely late at night - usually after a few ales. Drunk and nostalgic. Aah.
Depression is awful and I'm glad you found something that makes it a bit better, I hope your brain starts being nicer to you soon. Your videos help me so much during my bad periods and I wish I could do something to return the favour. Sending gentle hugs
I remember watching this review when it came out and I always wanted to play it, but I never got the chance. It wasn't ever available on the android play store, but recently I got a Switch and picked it up on there and I had a blast playing it. Thank you for the recommendation!
There's something intriguing about this mechanic. I'm not sure I want to roleplay as the Nothing from the Neverending Story, destroying all existence - but I expect that's not the way the game presents it, since it helped out your depression. I think I'll check it out.
What pushes my mood is the Retro Revisited channel. Simon does a great retro game news roundup each month. Also, I bought Donut County instantly due to its characters and humour. Reminds me of Night in the Woods.
So you're saying, it's a cruller world out there, grab this game with your bear claws, donut miss out, bismark it on your must-buy list, it's not a long-john game, but it's the yeast you can do. It's a cinn-amon situation. OK that last one was a stretch.
"The gameplay itself is just interactive enough to keep you busy but not overstimulated... usually it's difficult to find a combination that keeps you interested and relaxed at the same time" When you're in the mood to find another game, I recommend a title called _Fossil Hunters_ that a lot of people seem to have missed out on. Everytime I've tried to sell people on it, I end up struggling to compare it to stuff, so I sort of compare it to stuff like Animal Crossing - it's like work, but it's fun. You just go to town bashing rocks to reveal fossil pieces, then drag them together to form dinosaur skeletons (they're like tiles and click together). They don't even have to make sense - there are guides in the stages, but you can slap on as many legs or spine "joints" as you want. It was real charming and I still pick it up from time to time to just.... zone out and have fun. I'm really shocked it was so thoroughly ignored when it released, even when it released later on the Switch, but it is a real good stress reliever-type time-waster. Link: store.steampowered.com/app/690150/Fossil_Hunters/ At any rate, great review. I've been meaning to nab this, but the reviews were kinda mixed so I was putting it off... but I've finally decided to "get off the fence" so to speak and pick up Donut County thanks to this review. To Steam!
This actually looks like a super cute game and I definitely have been enjoying shorter games recently so I really think I might check this out soon, maybe show it off to one of my friends. Thanks for the recommendation!
just bought and played through this game after watching Jim Sterling's review of it and I loved it. I agree with pretty much everything you said and it's cool to see you review it.
Sorry to hear you are feeling gloomy Roses. We all need to console ourselves with something we actually care about when life starts feeling heavy. It's inspiring to see you talking about computer games in such a positive and therapeutic context, given how it's often talked about on TH-cam and in the mainstream media.
Katamari Demashi is the first thing I thought of, the second is I'm sorry you're going through that. Stay tough, you can make it. I got my own problems these days and the end result is some really pretty neighborhoods and parks in Cities:Skylines.
Of course as soon as I found a game style I like pur uploads a video about it but somehow finds a better game than the one I tried bless you and hope you feel better soon
Sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Me and my GF both suffer from depression and know what it's like to feel down. But we both think you're awesome!!! So hope you feel better soon! (our fingers and toes are crossed for you) This game looks amazing! Thanks for the review! PS, AIM SUX.... MSN 4EVA :D (both are dead :'()
I really feel you, bad. I've had a rough few years, (sickness and the death of my parents and pets and financial stuff). I've been coping by self medicating, rarely leaving the house, and tap dancing.
Over two years later and I've finally played this, because right now it's $4 on the Playstation Store! I've had this game floating around in the back of my mind ever since this review, and I'm glad I was finally able to play through it.
Usually when I'm dealing with depression, the best emotional goal I can aim for is to feel nothing. You know how there's a filter for sensation, like you don't always notice the texture of your clothing or whatever, especially when you're concentrating on doing something? Well sometimes the best I can do is get into that state. If I'm building something or playing a game. I can usually achieve that when I'm doing creative problem solving. Lego gave me that when I was a child, and now I have electronics and games like Kerbal Space Program and Infinifactory.
A game about Holes...and not based off that book called "Holes." Huh...looks very laid back. I love those type of games...Journey, NiGHTS into dreams, Katamari Damacy. Good stuff.
WANNA HAV SNEKS? THERE! ARE! FOUR! SNEKS! Those are some cute SNEKS in that screenshot, there! Sorry.... But seriously, I hope you (and me) pull through against depression. This game looks like a hoot, but I'm deep into the DECORATE code, trying to make a Doom mod worth playing.
I'm glad to hear of more chill type of games which can help - really darn sorry to hear it's been rough for you of late too :( Having not had the best of weeks, I think I'm gonna need this stat. Is it wrong to want to eat donuts, whilst playing a game about them? *ponders*
Aperture is what I'd have gone with after a time. Also, is there a name for art styles like this? I can't help but love it. There's at least three or four other games I can think of that use it, like Overland.
I love games that I can get for the wife to help her relax. she plays stardew Valley slime Rancher and donut Valley. I play the depressing games like walking dead, transistor, and to the Moon :-)
I don´t know what it is but this game sort of reminds me of a game called Kentucky Route 0 which is also rather strange puzzle game that can get kinda zen.
This games tone reminds me a lot of Pool Panic, which I can only describe as a pool based puzzle action adventure game. I mean pool the table game, like billiards...
If you haven't played Jazzpunk: Director's Cut, I highly recommend it! The punny/dry humor is on point and the gameplay doesn't go on forever. It really helped me to get out of a depressive funk recently.
Whenever I hear about Roses suffering from her depression, I get sad. She's such an amazing person, and depression is such a monster to deal with. Feel better Roses! We adore you, and want you to be the best that you can be.
"So go! Stuff things into your hole and be a happier person."
I did. I was.
"The humor keeps things funny" is a pretty good way of saying that the jokes actually work. :)
For some reason, when I read the premise on Steam I thought the hole was sapient, and that you would play as a hole that made friends with everybody but couldn't help but destroy everything you come into contact with. This game looks quirky and amusing. I'm glad I watched the hole video!
Hey hey/ we're all watching you/ come away, yeah/ to Malibu
Doh hohoh.
Eyyyyy!
lol
This made me feel hole again. Thank you.
5:00 "I'd rather have something short and entertaining, than long and boring as f@#%."
As if the holes didn't give us enough innuendo fodder already...
I like that you said “sneks.”
Don't step on snek!
This game looks like a lot of fun. Especially with the hole swallowing things like that. I was just looking at my subs thinking i was missing a new PUR video and boom its like a gift !
As a whole Donut County is pretty fun.
As someone dealing with depression you're becoming my favorite youtuber. You're funny, entertaining, and I feel I can relate to you. I use games, tv, and movies the most to cope, and your videos too. I'm glad I found you through LGR. You're the best!

Totally this sounds like something I want to show all my friends!
Totally agree with you about this helping depression a bit. It's really simple to get into and I had the first genuine laughs in a couple weeks playijg donut county this weekend

I really like your candidness. Keep up the good work!
I'm struggling with it and other problems for years, helps a lot to get up early in the morning at the same hour, live in the sun, exercise and get small goals done. Consistency helps. All the best, like your channel a lot!

Get better! I too suffer from depression. Shits no joke :( Try to find comfort in the company of others and not drugs or food like I did.
i prefer weed n video games but i live in colorado but point is to have fun in anyway
The writing style of the item descriptions reminded me of Little Inferno the most, because that game also has really well written item descriptions
Depression is awful and I'm glad you found something that makes it a bit better, I hope your brain starts being nicer to you soon. Your videos help me so much during my bad periods and I wish I could do something to return the favour. Sending gentle hugs
Just played it yesterday. Found it prettt amusing, but wish it was longer :(
Love your show, Rose! Good luck with your depression...I konw isn't easy
I remember watching this review when it came out and I always wanted to play it, but I never got the chance. It wasn't ever available on the android play store, but recently I got a Switch and picked it up on there and I had a blast playing it. Thank you for the recommendation!
it's nice to find something silly to banish the ol depression with :) this did make me crave donuts, though...
This looks so cute and relaxing. And 2 hours sounds like the perfect length.
Sending you lots of love Roses! You rock and your videos are seriously my favorite thing on TH-cam.
"Go stuff things into your hole and be a happier person!" Oh, you had me cracking up! Love your videos, PUR. Made my day a *hole* lot better!
Yep, that's 2D inverse Katamari Damacy. Will definitely check out LOLMFAO
Glad this game lifted your spirits for a while. Hope you're out of that dark tunnel of depression soon!
Your humor definitely keeps things funny.

I instinctively saluted at "RIP AIM"
"So go! Stuff things into your hole and be a happier person."
Eats popcorn, is happy.
Paused at 0:38, taking a couple hours to make all the jokes I can... unpausing.
So you're saying, it's a cruller world out there, grab this game with your bear claws, donut miss out, bismark it on your must-buy list, it's not a long-john game, but it's the yeast you can do. It's a cinn-amon situation. OK that last one was a stretch.
I got this on Switch a couple of weeks ago. It's short, but I loved it.
Great job on the video! I heard about this game, but you showing it off and talking about it really sold me on it.
Take the time you need and take care of yourself. I love your videos, and they are worth the wait.

What a lovely review. I already wanted this game from watching someone play it but your review really shakes my desire to buy it more.
Welcome back! We missed you.
Of course as soon as I found a game style I like pur uploads a video about it but somehow finds a better game than the one I tried bless you and hope you feel better soon

This game looks amazing! Thanks for the review!
PS, AIM SUX.... MSN 4EVA :D (both are dead :'()
Already bought it day one and it's got a "Hole" lot to "Fall" for LOL.
Oh man. Dealing with my depression, putting things into a void to only see the void get bigger sounds terrible. It sounds like a cute game though.
I really feel you, bad. I've had a rough few years, (sickness and the death of my parents and pets and financial stuff). I've been coping by self medicating, rarely leaving the house, and tap dancing.

I needed some PUR personality in my day! Thanks!
The hole MUST FEED
A game about Holes...and not based off that book called "Holes." Huh...looks very laid back. I love those type of games...Journey, NiGHTS into dreams, Katamari Damacy. Good stuff.
WANNA HAV SNEKS?
THERE! ARE! FOUR! SNEKS!
Those are some cute SNEKS in that screenshot, there!
Sorry....
But seriously, I hope you (and me) pull through against depression. This game looks like a hoot, but I'm deep into the DECORATE code, trying to make a Doom mod worth playing.

You had me at "instant messaging with a raccoon."
Played the heck out of this game in one sitting after learning about it! Loved it! ^_^
hope your depression resolves. i find helping others helps my depression the most.
Will definitely get this one. thanks!
Stay strong PUR. You can get through this and anything.
You had me at the You Suck At Cooking comparison!
Aperture is what I'd have gone with after a time.
Also, is there a name for art styles like this? I can't help but love it. There's at least three or four other games I can think of that use it, like Overland.
Possum is my new hero.
I actually really need a Zen game right now too. Stay cool PUR!😊
its a special type of person who chooses to use *action* style in internet conversation
SNEKS!!
How not to love Roses ??
I love games that I can get for the wife to help her relax. she plays stardew Valley slime Rancher and donut Valley. I play the depressing games like walking dead, transistor, and to the Moon :-)
Hope you will feel better soon Roses!
Sorry you're not feeling well. Love ya Roses. Great review! Seems like the kind of game my bf might like...I'll pass it along
Sounds like SOMEONE needs to play more Dagger of Amon Ra to relieve stress. ;)
I don´t know what it is but this game sort of reminds me of a game called Kentucky Route 0 which is also rather strange puzzle game that can get kinda zen.
I really like this kind of game. Tasty Planet, Katamari Damacy, etc.
Was JUST thinking that I'd like more short, relaxing games cause lack of time, and then this :D
I played and 100%ed Donut County the day it came out.
Honestly, I wish it was longer, but I loved what we got.
I've been so stressed lately that I've been having intrusive thoughts and anxiety based nightmares. Maybe this could help relax me.
I just beat this game, it was only like 2 hours or so but I was so into it I just went right on through.
Enjoyable video as always, PUR. I hope you feel better. Just know you have a fan in Taiwan rooting for you. (^^)b
The hole consumes everything, larger and larger, until it consumes everything.
You have a washing bear as friend?! I need this game!
Totally understand the aversion to the ubiquitousness of acronyms in chat conversations. *consoles Roses*
This games tone reminds me a lot of Pool Panic, which I can only describe as a pool based puzzle action adventure game. I mean pool the table game, like billiards...
You can also get it for iOS where it's A) Much more reasonably priced, and B) Controls very well via touch-screen.
If you haven't played Jazzpunk: Director's Cut, I highly recommend it! The punny/dry humor is on point and the gameplay doesn't go on forever. It really helped me to get out of a depressive funk recently.
Heh. Holes.
Katamari is my go-to zen game, so I'm sure I'd like this.
Hey Roses. Please don't go deep and stay with us. We need you. You are great.
When talking about an all devouring hole, the first thing that pops into my mind, is the fat guy exploding in Meaning of Life...
Whenever I hear about Roses suffering from her depression, I get sad. She's such an amazing person, and depression is such a monster to deal with. Feel better Roses! We adore you, and want you to be the best that you can be.
Well, don't mind if I do! *Insert Giggle-Snort*
I'm trying to keep tabs on PBGs let's play of this with space hamster
For what it's worth, hope you're doing ok and are able to get through this rough time Roses!
The humor keeps things funny.
I wonder if it was Austin who told her about this game... or vice versa?
**agrees with judgemental Roses**
Not sure if I'd pick it up myself, but that's a pretty good overview of the game. :)
