What a treat. I got home from grocery shopping and errands to find this waiting for me. The stress has faded away and I feel relaxed and ready to play my own music. Thank you.
Thanks so much Leanna. I think that's my favourite compliment I've received. It's a pleasure to help people unwind and relax. I hope you have a great rest of the weekend.
@@leannamanuel1118 Yes! My family asked if I'll be bringing the harp for Christmas so I'm planning on some extra practice (hopefully good enough to post). I've really been loving Anne Crosby's Carol of the Bells, Silver Bells and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. I'm always looking for recommendations though!
What a beautiful song and beautifully played. It sounds so crisp and clear on your harp, if I may ask what type and make it is. Thank you Derek for sharing your wonderfully developing harping!
Thanks so much Maris. I've heard a lot of slower versions and a few fast ones. I thought I'd try and meet in the middle since I loved both ways of playing it!
💚Just beautiful, Derek! I love the story, too. FYI I had to turn up the volume all the way to hear you - hope it was just me and not you💚 Thank you so much for the Celtic inspiration!
Oh that's strange, thanks for flagging it. Although it works for me okay I did have to adjust the volume when I uploaded it on my computer program so that might have something to do with it! I appreciate you letting me know!
Really lovely, Derek. Thank you so much for keeping the entire video on your playing too. It gives beginners like myself (who can't read music) a chance to watch and see what your hands are doing as I try to learn by ear! 😊👏
Of course! You likely already know this but if you click the gears icon on the video options you can choose to slow down the video. When someone told me that it helped me so much to learn from ear because some of the pieces are much faster than I can read. I hope you learn to play this one!
@@derekharpson yes, being able to slow the speed down slightly, especially in the first few days is really helpful, as is TH-cam generally… what a resource! Thanks, I will definitely learn to play this from your video, but it will have to wait until I’ve mastered this year’s Christmas tunes 😂
I love this piece so thank you for sharing the background on it. Is this a tune in Christy Lynne’s playlist of tunes? You are playing so well you don’t sound like a beginner.👍🤗
Thanks Linda! So this tune is actually written by Kim Robertson so Christy Lyn doesn't have an arrangement of it. Although I'd say this is an early intermediate piece. I guess I'm officially not a beginner (even though I feel like one sometimes) :)
Thank you for the fun information too!! I laughed out loud at the lament. Ahaha Who did the arrangement you were playing? Ooops. Now I can laugh at myself. I just read the whole title!
Haha I loved that part of the story too! It's from Kim Robertson's book of Celtic Solos, there's actually a second part that I left out because the traditional one I knew didn't have it. I recommend the book though, I've loved it.
Hey Lloyd, so this is part of Kim Robertson's Celtic Harp Solos book. I believe you can know buy them individually online. I recommend the full book, every piece is wonderful.

Thank you so much June. This Harp is a Salvi Una, I love it's crisp upper register
Wow, that was lovely. A great Celtic tune indeed
Thanks so much!
Beautifully played! The ending was full and satisfying, winding down like a happy sigh at the end of a good book
You have an amazing way with words! Thank you so much

I've heard and enjoyed this tune many times, but I particularly loved the way you played it with the slight variations in tempo.

Really great - never heard this song before
Some of the Celtic tunes are definitely niche

May I ask how long you’ve been playing? I’m a beginner and would be so happy to play like that one day.
I’ve been playing for just over 3 years now but I benefited from a bit of piano as a kid
Been playing this tune for years and fully thought it was written by O Carolan 😂
Haha the title really does help either. I was randomly doing research and read that, otherwise never would have known.
Embarrassing for me as an Irish harpist 😆
What mic and video set up are you using?
@@shelleynieidhin8478 So I'm just using my iPhone for the video and for audio I'm using a Blue Yeti, it's pretty decent.
