    Very nice post!
    I've been in the business for 47 years,
    Regarding large windows: I learned from a friend and associate, Richard Millard,
    to place your saddle bar lines in first to avoid interrupting crucial design elements.

      I would agree with that advice Michael. Placing your support bars first will really help making the design process easier for sure!🙂👍🏼

    Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom. I am not a beginner, but ended up learning several things from this video anyway. The main joy I get from your videos is the inspiration from seeing your work. You have such a strong sense of the design elements and your level of craft is museum-quality. I look forward to seeing your next videos!

    Hi Derek. As always, great information you share, but as I was watching the video it came up a question: what percentage would you say design takes within all the process until installation? What I really want to know is how much should I charge (%) when designing stained glass windows patterns at fully scale; I'm getting into this stained glass world doing just that. Hope you can guide me some way. Thank you.

      Great question! I normally make a charge for designing completely separately from making and installation. So the client pays for the design first as a separate item. Then if they like the design we can agree a cost to make and fit depending on when they want it made. I always retain copyright of the design so they can’t take it to anyone else to make without my permission. I worked out how long the drawing will take and charge that as a separate fee. Every project is different so the time taken to design will vary, and so will the cost. Hope that helps. 🙂

    Excellent video. This will be a top reference to my kids and any others who express interest. Question regarding negative space: Should we avoid transparent glass for the main feature (person) if the negative space is going to be of opaque/semi opaque glass? What is a best practice here? Thanks.

    • @DerekHuntArtist
      @DerekHuntArtist  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yes, absolutely! Opalescent glass shouldn’t be used with clear glass in the same design as they don’t work together. Either make the window with only opal glass or transparent glass, for best results. 🙂

    I just discovered your channel, thank you for sharing your experience.
    Is it ok to use a ring saw to cut complex shapes and does that create weak points that may break over time?

    • @DerekHuntArtist
      @DerekHuntArtist  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ring saws are great and really help when cutting complex shapes out of glass! Just be aware that complex shapes can make weak points in the glass 🙂

    Thank you Derek but would it be possible to get French text in subtitle because I could not catch all you meant.

      Hello @didiermaurel8448 are you not able to turn on subtitles in French? It should be automatic when to turn on. Please let me know 🙏🙂
