if you guys want to play Robot Wars Original Generations 1 and 2, i suggest you to play their remake on PS2, it's a "only in japan" game but an english fan translation is available 👌
I love Ray Gigant's aesthetic during combat. These first-person dungeon crawlers tend to have static sprites and simple animations during encounters. Ray Gigant is a visual extravaganza in comparison, especially on an OLED Vita.
Everybody needs to play Xenosaga Episode III. I don’t care if you have to watch the first two games as cutscenes. The third game is amazing and polished. One of the best JRPGs ever.
Love that you are still mentioning Relayer. I think it's the third time, though it will forever be a hidden gem, not even a Switch port can save it. I am happy to own a PS5 physical copy.
Ahh cool you mentioned Relayer, I played it for like 75 hours beating the entire game and post-game. My only qualm is the AI should gradually become more aggressive when you can survive the onslaught. Having every enemy group only attack you if they are in your range is a bit of a letdown.
9:15 SRW is basicly a crossover game from many mecha anime, SRW OG is the developer original story that take in different universe from SRW. SRW OG will tell their original character story that have appear in the SRW game.
'I absolutely recommend the 2nd Death End Request game. It's got a much darker - almost horror vibe to it. Gameplay is on par with the first, though there is no visual novel segments with a diffferent character. It still suffers from the utter slap in the face that is half English voice acting and full Japanese acting that Compile Heart just can't friggen stop doing, but it's got a very interesting story. I'm surprised not to see the Digital Devil saga on here. Very much a hidden jem. Though perhaps it's not quite sci-fi enough.
Idk if it counts, but there's a old anime fps with some story and it's definitely sci-fi. It's called Shogo, sorry I forgot the subtitle. I just remember that some missions you're on foot and others in a mech. Wouldn't surprise me if Titanfall was inspired by it as it's definitely older than the Titanfall games. For an old game I'd say Shogo is challenging
For the super robot wars original generations recomendation, you should note that there's a english patch that translated the ps2 versions that contains a improved version of original generations 1, original generations 2 and 2.5. So yeah it's a pretty good english translation and makes the game a must for RPG enjoyers.
nice to see Ray Gigant I have the physical edition somewhere it's a good dungeon crawler, heavily underrated and great pick for a hidden gem. Also one of the few vita exclusives never ported to switch. I kinda disagree on Death End Request tho as it is never really "sci-fi"... yep there are "glitches" in the virtual world but I don't recall anything sci fi per se. Death End Request 2 - more horror - is sooooo much better than the 1st so try it if u have the chance! Also not sci fi tho. It can get really really dark and I have a thing for dark and denpa visual novels and rpgs.
No matter what year it is or what alien planet you're on, the power of the waifus never dies. I'd still qualify Front Mission as hidden gems... but the Switch remakes might change that and maybe open the way to a new turn-based game in the series. Now if only we could get a remake of Gun Hazard too.
I actually got the English released SRW Taisen on the GBA. Cost like $60-70 though to ensure it's an official copy. Very fun game! But the story is pretty hard to follow.
What's so great about Super Robot Wars? It's a mess mechanically that somehow manage to make the wide variety of robots similar to each other. The best GBA iteration is Robot Wars J; *it manages suspense on the opening level* and the versions you mention feel like a pale imitation. It's also the lesser known game as it did not get a western release
I miss Phantasy Star Portable 2: Infinity on that list, it's simply awesome and thanks to a lot of dedication and effort received a fan made translation because it was released in japanese only. The combat in this game is engaging, it has cool bosses, a unique equipment system (there is no armor, only line shields, so you can enjoy the perks of defensive stats while wearing casual clothes for example) and lots of weapons and skills you can fit into your play style. While classes there determine your available Skill levels and stats you can also level up one class, but nobody will keep you from advancing in multiple classes to unlock their perks and use them in another class^^
I find it funny that I have had Lost Dimension downloaded on my steam list for years now but I haven't gotten past the first floor. The whole deletion thing makes me try to get all of the characters to the skill levels that I don't lose progress but the grinding to hit that point just made me give up... I guess the core game play loop is in a direct contrast to my game playing style.
Awesome video! I luv how you give a short synopsis of the games then give your overall opinion of the games! Definitely going to ck these out! Keep making videos! So cool! Do you ever go to game expos or conventions? That'd be gnarly to run into you at one of them! 🤙😎
Don’t know why, but Death End Re; Quest gave me awful headaches when I played it on the Switch. Went back a little while later and it still caused head pain, just a heads up for anyone who might be sensitive to that sort of stuff, as it was the first game to ever do that to me.
The chapters seem to have gone off in this video. Most are okay, Crimson Tears gets close with "Creams on Tears" but for some reason Death end Re: Quest has become "As Arata". I think there's a way you can put the start time of each chapter in the description and this will manually set things
It's my favorite game on the genesis/mega drive but to be fair he did say he's not including games with medieval influences and the setting in PS4 is in a bit of a grey area, especially the first part.
Ouch I have Metal Max Xeno for PS4 and Metal Max Xeno Reborn for Switch but I haven't played the Switch release yet. If its harder then the PS4 original version it will probably be less fun for me. I greatly preferred Metal Saga which was originally a spiritual successor to the early Metal Max games due to trademark issues but according to the Metal Max Wikipedia page the franchises were merged once the trademark issues got worked out. If the timelines have been merged Xeno is set before Saga though because by Saga the AI had been defeated and while there were still remnants of its forces around humanity was in no danger of extinction. A classic example of why you need to be very careful when programming AIs. Program one to save Earth's environment but forget to include programming it to save humanity and things can get real ugly. Relayer sounds fun. And I love Robotrek. Of all the games that got accidently thrown out when my family moved in 99 that I never got a replacement for its the one I miss the most. I don't know how many times I played through it after getting it for Christmas in 94.
@@DaRaginLombax US$100-$120 is painful, but by no means the most painful by PSVita (or PS4) standards. Just keep in mind that there will be fewer copies in the wild and pounce on any decent offer you can.

Lost Dimension is fantastic. Got the plat on Vita.
Didn't finish it, but it was fantastic. The Vita had some fantastically imaginative RPGs floating around, especially if you were willing to import.
11:08 - Correction: The origin planet for Ar Nosurge isn't Earth, but a different planet entirely (though one character does come from Earth).
Is Rogue Galaxy considered a hidden gem? That one is my favorite sci fi jrpg.
I think many people already know the existence of that awesome game so I personally won't call it a hidden gem.
Definitely more of a hidden gem then Super Robot Wars.
