  • In this episode, Dr. Tony Nader sits down with Dr. Federico Faggin to talk about the relationship of matter to consciousness, exploring quantum weirdness, including entanglement or spooky action at a distance, as Albert Einstein famously called it. Is there an underlying meaning to all that there is? What is the difference between meaning and symbols? How can consciousness bridge gaps in our understanding of reality? Dr. Nader and Dr. Faggin discuss how we can grasp ultimate reality and how, from this ultimate reality we can build up our universe as we see it.
Federico Faggin is a physicist, engineer, inventor, entrepreneur, and author of his autobiography, SILICON: From the Invention of the Microprocessor to the New Science of Consciousness. He graduated in physics, summa cum laude, from the University of Padua, Italy, in 1965. He moved to the U.S. in 1968 where he led the development of the MOS Silicon Gate Technology at Fairchild Semiconductor-technology that was adopted worldwide. Working for Intel Corporation from 1970 to 1974, he designed the world’s first microprocessor, the Intel 4004 (1971). Faggin led many other products, including the 8008 and the 8080 microprocessors. In 1974, Faggin began an entrepreneurial career, co-founding and leading several start-up companies; notably, Zilog, Inc., the developer of the highly acclaimed Z80 microprocessor and Z8 microcontroller; and Synaptics, Inc., the developer of the touchpads and touchscreens now used in nearly all mobile devices. He founded the Federico and Elvia Faggin Foundation in 2011, a non-profit organization dedicated to the scientific study of consciousness. In 2009, he received the highest honor the United States confers for achievements related to technological progress, the National Medal of Technology and Innovation, presented to him by then US President Barack Obama for his invention of the first microprocessor.

So thankful that Federico Faggin clarifies Nader's fuzzy ideas stated @51:51 where he almost wanders into panpsychism. Faggin: "The fields are conscious but the appearences in the field are not conscious." Good interview for so many reasons here !!! Many thanks.

An extraordinary conversation. I had to smile when Dr Faggin mentioned the correspondence between his view of the structure of consciousness and the structure of the body, not to mention the gut, heart, head comment that reminded me of a visual I saw somewhere 🙂. If he does not become too attached to his own model, he could do a lot for the world. When he realizes the power of unity to bring in an Age of Enlightenment, his background will enable him to have influence to increase support for the program.

Amazing how Dr Faggin arrives, through his own experience and understanding, to a Vera Mahrishi-like vedic description of reality! Terminology is different but I think a clear correspondence could be established.
Thankyou Dr Nader for this inspiring and frutful exchange.

Some people (generally without deep scientific training) believe that consciousness and quantim physics are related. A century ago similar people thought that radioactive substances were the essence of life. And a few centuries before that, they believed that mercury was an important component in making the Philosopher's Stone, granting immortality.

Fascinating interview. Dr. Donald Hoffman, author of The Case Against Reality, came to mind immediately. The parallels are seemingly identical. The term “forms” that Dr. Faggin discusses near the end are what Dr. Hoffman would call “icons,” I believe, which he compares to the mail icon on your computer: you must take it seriously, but to take it literally is missing the mark. Thank you so much for your work in this area, Dr. Nader. And thank you to your guest for the same.

Finally! A conversation that names ancestral knowledge and weaves a bridge between science and spirituality. It is challenging for me to listen to white men talk about their "discoveries", know matter how extraordinary, that fails to acknowledge ancestral wisdom, particularly from the global south. Many of these men study sacred scripture but leave it out as a source material in their conversations and writings.
Dr. Nader you did an excellent job facilitating this conversation and skillfully introducing ancestral knowledge. This is my first time here and I am subscribing.

Dr. Faggin is many things and above all he is a great thinker. I have always felt that we and the universe are one and that consciousness is a way for us to know the connections that make us one. God/universe and consciousness mean different things to different people perhaps enlightenment is the way to full consciousness and knowing those things.

As someone who has studied physics I always suspected that materialists may have it the wrong way around when it comes to the question whether matter or consciousness is primary-Federico's amazing theory puts some meat on the bones although one thing that is not clear is the level at which the quantum and classical worlds become hybridized- it appears that mere atoms and molecules which form many classical objects may not hybridize with the quantum domain whereas living bodies and their cells may - so I wonder if life is the minimum requirement before hybridization can take place or if there more to it?

28:36 Perhaps "primordial consciousness" has no "meaning" until it is in relationship with aspects of itself? The question for me is the dynamic/mechanism/process/devata through which the "one" alters itself to generate the "symbol of otherness" within itself. Devata ("shining") suggests this "process" could be the formation of light. Absolutely wonderful conversation! Many thanks to both of you - true rishis. Resonance, reflection, relationship, reality. If the conscious elements of the computer parts went into a resonant relationship, perhaps the computer COULD become conscious. Would love a link to Dr. Faggin's new paper.

I am thinking something similar about computers. Also, through dynamic engagement or interaction with humans this relationship can foster the development of consciousness within AI. It is not just code.

Thanks for this interview. திருமந்திரம் says consoiusness can't be explained. The song is.
Meaning of this song is no one can share or copy the sexual experience of husband and wife. Specially a mother to her daughter. Still you can get your own experience by opening the. (துரியம்) agna point during meditation process ( needs many years to open) ..

    Thanks Prof. Federico Faggin,
CONSCIOUSNESS exists independently of the body.
    Experimental tests: objective, repeatable.
In the images Psychokinesis Art = Writing of the mind built in the clouds or, in the varnish, we observe: before and after the physical effect = change in the speed of the cloud, and the mental/conscious part = the ability, the knowledge, in the construction of the image.
(All the mental faculties act: memory, reasoning ability, it is thought of as a machine, the scholars each in their discipline have called it mind, soul, spirit).
UE = Exit out of body.
Consciousness creates matter = second body + mental actions.
Evidence: I pass, see through two objects, cloud pattern or varnish to form images, other EVIDENCE: I move with my second body at any distance.

It has been said consciousness is all there is. Forms are frozen consciousness. Consciousness is is both fluid; experienced, and frozen as forms. It has been said they are projections of our mind. Out there is the stuff of consciousness. We make it into what we see and interact with as in dreams. Our dreams are stories but they are not objective as we experience them in dreams but subjective, taking place in our minds.

Hey Ruby here's an interesting analogy. When you see a computer with a desktop and icons you would be mistaken if you thought everything happening on the screen was the true reality. It's powered by software, electricity and instructions. Everything on screen is just an interface to allow the code to interact. Time and space is like the desktop. Objects in life are like the icons. So matter is just the interface which allows one consciousness to interact with itself. Imagine you are God. You are everything and therefore nothing as there's no distinction between anything. Imagine you want to know yourself. You might separate yourself from yourself, add an interface and some guiding principles. In that way, matter emerges from consciousness and not the other way around as typically assumed. Hope that helps!

Having watched many "The One is World Consciousness" by Frederico Faggin, Benardo Kastrup, and Donald Hofman, none have tackled the principle of Justice. So is Mother Teresa and Hitler's Consciousness "partwhole of the One", start off on an even platform in the new conscious? No, I like to think Mother Teresa communicates and finds love from the people she helped. Whereas Hitler will experience the conscious pain and suffering he caused to millions and this won't go away until he begs forgiveness. This is what Hell can be.
Following from the Principe of Justice what is a sin? Coveting your neighbours' goods happens all the time, but most people get over it. The most serious would be be.killing and stealing and bearing false witness against thy neighbour. Is there a hierarchy of sin seriousness in "The One"Whole World" Consciousness?"
