    I looked up what raccoon babies sound like because I live in a huge house and I seen there is a raccoon getting in and out of the top of my house, and now I can hear these poor raccoons up my chimney crying! So I got a man to come and help them

    Ive been feeding a female Raccoon now since November of last year. Im pretty comfortable with her and she's pretty comfortable with me. She generally comes everynight but that slacked off end of Nov and December but saw that in winter they sleep alot. When she started coming around again on a regular basis she was MUCH skinnier and figured out she was bigger before because she was pregnant. She comes up on my porch and eats and will eat out of my hand. Loves Honey Roasted peanuts more than anything else. She feels even comfortable enough around me to actually take a nap a few times after eating night rather than going straight back to her babies because im sure they wear her out. Started buying cat food for her now because healthier im sure than junk food but i always give her few goodies too every night (loves her Cheese Puffs and Peanutbutter crackers 😁) the other night she brought her 2 barbies with her and have to say they are cute little things. I can tell the mother isn't worried about them being close to me or me harming them, again ive fed her now going on 9 months but they are still little skittish and only came the one night. Waiting for her to bring them EVERY night which im sure will be sooner than later.

      She does keep the babies close when she is on the porch eating usually right over the fence i can here the two of them talking and climbing on trees. So far they have only come over the fenc3 once while moma was eating and didn't get to close but the mother was clearly not worried about them being around me. They were just too nervous to come to close but sure they will soon over the next week or two.

    • @theraccoonkf1027

      I have to say she's a good mother and listens for them the whole time shes eating. One night before she had the babies following her around another adult raccoon climbed the fence and just watched her eat and just stood on the fence and was not very close. I don't leave the food out and when she comes up beside me on the porch and eats, soon as she's done eating i take up ALL of the food and clean the porch because NOT feeding any others except her and her babies. Once she saw him/her (other raccoon) perched on the fence watching her eat she slowly got up, climbed over the fence (in a different spot of the fence of where the other raccoon was at) and she charged him hard and I heard some fighting and growling. Hoping it was "my raccoon" that won the fight, i sat there quietly waiting to see if she came back and hoping she was not hurt. Finally she came back over the fence and started eating again and i was relieved. Dont know what the other raccoon looked like after the fight but she (my raccoon) had a nasty scar on her face and luckily it did not get her eye because the cut/bite was close to her eye. She has since totally heeled up and is fine now. Did some research and saw that some mother Raccoons won't tolerate other raccoons coming around their area if there is not alot of food around or when they have babies around in fear that other Raccoons could hurt or kill her babies and she did just that. Haven't seen any other raccoons other than her and her 2 babies ever since

    Hi Trapper guy. We live in North Port florida. We had a mother come in the spring and bring her two babies. Now the babies are grown and they're on their own. And Mom has returned with four babies. And she was here about 2 months and we were feeding them and everything was cool. But then the weather got cold and they disappeared. We're worried what do you think happened to Mom and the babies

    • @TheTrapperGuy
      @TheTrapperGuy  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Impossible to say but not necessarily anything bad. They are wild animals and anything could have pushed them somewhere else. Another food source, better shelter and danger from predators and even fighting among themselves. I do have to caution against feeding them. Bad things sometime happens to both you human...and raccoons. 😁

    Very interesting to hear about kids staying with mom for up to a year if there's enough food available, because for the past 2 years I've had a mom bring her kids from that year (born in april/may) and she always separated from the kids around august/september. Even though I always provided plenty of food for everyone.

    I enjoyed your video, thank you for making it. The cigar bit was cute. I just saw a local raccoon come out from under our shed yesterday pre-dusk, which I found to be so interesting I kept watching her from the garage. She tentatively did three laps around the perimeter of the shed before I saw two heads poke out! I’m editing the longer video right now but I think I just posted one last night as a morsel, please check it out and give me your thoughts if you would. Anyway, after the labs the heads kept poking out, and she kept ushering them back underneath the shed. Eventually I think five kits came out? I’m wondering if it was their first time out because I’ve never seen one of our local raccoons at that time of evening, very strange. I also benefited from seeing what type of gloves you wear, I’m gonna go pick up a pair today. May I ask when it is that they are making the chattering that is so vocal? Maybe it’s all the birds we have in my area-literally up against an entrance to a slough-or The difficulty sound would have carrying from where I imagine the babies were, but I would Love to be able to identify them, and in general be more knowledgeable.

    • @TheTrapperGuy
      @TheTrapperGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will check your video out. It was probably one of their first times out. Mom will teach them to come out after dark when there are less people and pets outdoors. I have numerous types of gloves and the ones in the video are auto mechanic glove. They are not made for animals or are they bite proof. Any type of bite-proof glove is going to be bought at an animal control supply house and be expensive. I sometimes handle baby raccoons without protection because I have decades of experience with them and also have been pre-vaccinated for rabies. I certainly wouldn't try and grab your raccoon babies. Once babies are big enough to use their legs and get around...they can be very vicious to anything but other siblings and Mom.

      If they are coming out already they can still make that sound...but don't use it as much. It is kind of an infant fussing whine. I will check out your vid. Thanks for watching!

    Just found a baby raccon this morning, trying to find a wildlife rehabilitation center to take him. Im guessing 1-2 weeks of age.
    Quick question though at this age can they be infected with rabies from mom cleaning them and if so what might be some of the signs?

    • @TheTrapperGuy
      @TheTrapperGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes they can be infected. They don't have to show signs to have it. Always take precautions and try not to handle it with your hands. Also hand sanitizer is your friend. I handle them bare handed sometimes...but I have been rabies pre-vaccinated....and also use sanitizer.

    It’s still winter here in Jersey, end of February. There’s a litter of raccoons in our back yard behind the neighbors shed. Our room faces the backyard, and we can no longer have the window cracked open because those babies have SOME LUNGS! They’re keeping up this neighborhood for sure. Is it common for them to have a litter around late winter and not around spring?

      @TheTrapperGuy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm from Florida so I can't say for sure how it is up there...but I would have to say no it isn't common up there. Most raccoons have litters in late spring...even here. In Central Florida though, I have seen raccoon litters at all times of the year.

    My sister's pupdog is a cute but mixed-up mongrel - mostly Shih tzu, along w poodle and something else. Looks almost exactly like the purebred Shih tzu nutball dogs my parents had. For a couple of days the little dog had been having some sort of gastric distress, whimpering, whining and Trembling, and approaching us for comfort, which seems to be domesticated dog signals of certain kinds of pain. All the vets were closed or booked solid, and by the next morning she has been fine, chasing her ball, racing around like a maniac, frolicking and scampering and frisking all day with no problem. GREAT!
    Tonight, after my 86-year-old sister retired with her pupdog for the evening. I kept hearing WHINING and Whimpering. But each time I checked, her dog was asleep. After a while, she and the dog got up for a late snack.
    Without her hearing aids my sis couldn't hear the Whining! I thought I must be going NUTZ!
    She and her dog went back to bed.
    Finally, I realized the sounds are coming from the attic. Must be a Raccoon Kit all by itself, because there are no other sounds. Really upsetting. Tomorrow (Sunday) I'm going to try to find some animal rescue group.
    I put some cream and rice in a saucer in the storage space that connects thru to the attic. Don't Tell her. I'll get someone out to rescue the critter.

    I just heard a noise I wasn't familiar with coming from the woods behind my house and a baby raccoon just comes running straight at me screaming for it's momma so I crouched down so I didn't look as big and it ran right up to my hand and I guess realized I wasn't it's momma so it hissed and ran up the side of my old overgrown chicken coop. Kinda worried something either flushed it out of it's nest or something got it's mom. This little raccoon was running furiously around my yard (after dark) just out in the open screeching. Is it normal for them to freak out like that when they first start coming out of their nest. He looked like he was fully developed and he was fast but still pretty small. Maybe 2-3 months?

    We live in a fairly big home in michigan, and we moved here about 2 years ago; we noticed our first winter that a raccoon was getting into the eaves on one part of the house through a torn piece of wood/ eaves. Well we were renting then, but we bought the house and we thought the raccoons were gone and then they returned. Now, it's January in the lower eastern part of Michigan and it's been very mild weather and just now, in my basement, I heard all kinds of crazy scratching coming from inside the ductwork. I thought something was in the actual furnace metal ducts, but now we realize that the noise is coming from the pipe connected to our water heater... and it is definitely the sound of a scared, crying baby racoon! We don't mind winter's getting close they they will be warm. It's like a odd couple thing between animals the cat and both male and female raccoon loves each other lol. My son has worshiped raccoons since he was able to walk and talk ,and now he's young adult now and really enjoys to make sure they have fresh water and food out every night. I've thought about recording it so people can see this bizarre friendship. I haven't got a chance to figure out youtube yet mostly busy. Hopefully I can before winter hits. Its so mind blowing. James the raccoon Whisperer would probably love to see it I'd say.

    I have raccoons that attack one a other in my backyard over the cat food but they are nice they act like they want you to pet them they rub against your leg scares the shit out of me but it's only one that fight and it's huge so I think it's a male but there's like 10 of them and I can't get rid of them or relocate them and it drives me nuts

      Don't leave out cat food 24/7. Try to put out cat food at a time when you don't see the raccoons, only leave it down for an hour and pick up bowls and bring inside after. Cats will get used to the routine. Hopefully the raccoons don't.
