This right is earned over time, and will include at least 5 years full or part time work, or 7 years casual work. -no person may enter politics without first having served the community. You cannot go from University straight into politics. -No career politicians. Offices should be under a term limit, and a minimum period of time must elapse before a politician can hold the same office again. 8 years in one position, and this isn’t “defence minister” for 8, then “education” for 8, no. It’s 8 years in the senate and you’re gone. Too many of these politicians are focused on re-election and put the needs of their electorate last. Politicians have 2 goals; get elected and stay elected, everything else is a distant third place. -accountability. If you’re the person who makes the mistake, you wear it. No more Dan Andrews style “I do not recall” when your quarantine system is bungled and leads to 800 deaths. That’s 800 murders, treat it like it. -budgets shall be balanced by slashing spending, not debt and raising taxes. If debt for the individual is bad, what is debt for a country, that will take lifetimes to pay off and is in the best interests of other countries? -less government is better government. Less government interference in individual lives. Whilst a government should be able to say what’s illegal, it’s saying what you cannot do. This is very different from them mandating what you must do. -we look after our own first. We do not sell off our country piecemeal for money, which is irrecoverable in the long term. No more short sighted decisions. -we do not hold people’s past against them for the things they have said. Censorship is inherently bad, all ideas must be discussed on their merits, and through education we can change opinion. Silencing people because they have said bad things will only cause them to dig their heels in and stunt growth. With this in mind, government decisions should also be based on the facts of the situation, NOT the feelings of some marginalised group that are being courted for votes. These should, in my mind, be founding principles of how our government runs. We must be the ones who do this.

-being 18 is not the prerequisite to vote, and I’ll-informed and often never-employed groups of individuals with no grasp of how their vote affects their lives are what has led us to this point, voting for personalities or simply “who my parents vote for”. Therefore;
-participation guarantees franchise, if you serve the community, whether it’s emptying bins, putting out fires, providing health care, military service, you earn both the right to vote and participate in politics. This right is earned over time, and will include at least 5 years full or part time work, or 7 years casual work.
-no person may enter politics without first having served the community. You cannot go from University straight into politics.
-No career politicians. Offices should be under a term limit, and a minimum period of time must elapse before a politician can hold the same office again. 8 years in one position, and this isn’t “defence minister” for 8, then “education” for 8, no. It’s 8 years in the senate and you’re gone. Too many of these politicians are focused on re-election and put the needs of their electorate last. Politicians have 2 goals; get elected and stay elected, everything else is a distant third place.
-accountability. If you’re the person who makes the mistake, you wear it. No more Dan Andrews style “I do not recall” when your quarantine system is bungled and leads to 800 deaths. That’s 800 murders, treat it like it.
-budgets shall be balanced by slashing spending, not debt and raising taxes. If debt for the individual is bad, what is debt for a country, that will take lifetimes to pay off and is in the best interests of other countries?
-less government is better government. Less government interference in individual lives. Whilst a government should be able to say what’s illegal, it’s saying what you cannot do. This is very different from them mandating what you must do.
-we look after our own first. We do not sell off our country piecemeal for money, which is irrecoverable in the long term. No more short sighted decisions.
-we do not hold people’s past against them for the things they have said. Censorship is inherently bad, all ideas must be discussed on their merits, and through education we can change opinion. Silencing people because they have said bad things will only cause them to dig their heels in and stunt growth. With this in mind, government decisions should also be based on the facts of the situation, NOT the feelings of some marginalised group that are being courted for votes.
These should, in my mind, be founding principles of how our government runs. We must be the ones who do this.
