Hello. That stone is from Colorado. I got it in Antonito Colorado, close to Taos

I guess that's why I have no anxiety. I find stuff I forgot I had pretty much every day. 🤣

I really liked the video you did awhile back that proved they used copper tools. It's well known that they mined copper in Michigan. Otzi the Iceman even had a copper celt in his pouch. I don't understand the "antler guys" getting so bent over people using copper tools, but it is funny.

Yeah, it's a funny thing. The dates in history keep getting older for the use of copper, but it still doesn't sink in.

The town of Basalt, Colorado is a famous fly fishing destination. Basalt is common around there, but most is pretty gunky.

Currently this is all I have to work with. It is exactly as you describe. Layers of cooled lava. Does whatever it wants even if it looks perfect.I make alot of rubble and very small sharp flakes :) can make wicked blades though

Love the controlled flaking. Basalt is tough stuff (pun intended). Awesome stuff. Our subconscious often delivers to us better than our conscious can do on its own. Keep up the great work!

If you are ever so inclined to reach out, I'll share with you a collection of basalt tools found on our farm. You would enjoying seeing some of what they made in the times that came before. Thx for sharing your knowledge and having fun.

The old Hawaiians had to climb up 14000 feet to get the good basalt that cooled rapidly in the glacier. This must be similar material.

When I started snapping (but since stopped because of an injury) I invented a style of indirect by setting the tool in the crook of my hip and picked up your style after seeing your videos, it just goes to show it’s pretty intuitive and was probably done in the past.

Basalt has what I like to call grain. This stuff is super tough with a mind of its own if the stone says no to a flake it means it.
