When you said it feels like 'first day at school', that's exactly how I feel about starting my new job in September. Ahh so exciting and scary! Can you believe we're now working professionals?!?!!😂😂
So happy for you Paige! As a first year actuarial student you were one of the reasons why I chose actuarial when deciding my university degree at the beginning of the year (and definitely don't regret it!) As someone who watched almost all of your vlogs, I could see your frustration of staying home all the time and only seeing people on your screen. So I'm soooo happy for you that now you finally get the chance to work in an office and meet your colleagues! Will keep watching your vlogs and I believe you are going to have a great time at your office!
Wow I follow you since you started at Cambridge University, I feel so happy for you after all these years, how you have grown and become a professional.
I definitely prefer working in the office - I live alone so the social aspect of the office is important to me. Having said that my company is going to have a hybrid model of working which will be great, because the option to work from home on certain days/when needed is really important too!
I prefer working from home, especially as someone who is working in IT. There is a lot of pros of working from home. Such as: you don't need to wake to early, 30-45 minutes is more than enough to eat quick breakfast, get ready, brush teeth and hair, if you have a call you can only change upper body wear no need to wear office clothes all the way. And also you don't need to have 1 hour lunch, 30 minutes is enough, that's if you prepared it the night before, if don't, then an hour is enough to cook (something light of course) and eat at home, have healthy meal. And I think at home you don't get as exhausted, as you would working from an office. You don't spend 1-2 hours on traffic, no need to think ahead about what to wear, what to eat for lunch and then end up having unhealthy meal. Especially after working from home, you have more time and energy to work out from home or go for a walk and so on. Also if you're not feeling well, or had little cold, you still be able to work from home, cause it's your comfort zone, everything you need right where you're. Especially if you have your period, I just love studying & working from home, it's so comfortable. 😍 But it's my personal opinion and experience as a student who 1.5 years studied from home due to covid. Maybe there's some people, who can't focus properly on work from home. Or someone who is living with children, and they interrupt his/her work. Also combination of both, working 9-5 from home, and once a week for one or 2 hours going to office isn't bad. The again it's my personal opinion.
@Nicky L To begin with there's whatsapp, telegram, discord and so many other similar applications, where you can chat with your colleagues, ask questions, ask for help etc. Also zoom meetings specifically designed for similar purposes, for people to ask questions each other, get help and so on. Not to mention you see each other, it's similar to the office interaction. And after meeting you go on with your work fully focused. In office you get distracted, you're not comfortable, especially if you don't have private office room, there's some people who get cold and then they ask to turn off ac 😂 and similar other problems. As I mentioned I work in IT, plus I'm not social butterfly, and my work is very stressful, so having my own space helps, I get undistracted work. If I want to chat I message. Besides getting distracted all the time isn't good for your job, you don't focus and that has bad consequences. I also think too much socializing is a waste of time and money. About going for dinner after work, who does that? 😂 I mean I'm exhausted after work and all I want is to get home asap. In addition, on my previous comment I mentioned about people who can't work from home. Again It was only my opinion and my experience, people are different, and that's normal. Imagine what would have been if all people start to demand to work from home? 😂 I guess it's best when company let people choose how they like to work.
Totally agree with you there! I won’t give up working from home for anything, and it seems to be the same for the rest of my team members! But I’m speaking for someone who has worked for an accumulated period of 9 years going into 10 years.
@@rahimamammadova6220 Absouletly agree, I guess we'ee introverts and Nicky is rather an extrovert. For me it would ruin my mental health and wellbeing if I had to go to the office for 8 hourse every day. It's so exhausting to md having all those people around me. They only way that would not make me utterly unhappy would be my own single office at work - but who has that!
Ahhhh this brings so many memories of me as a university student, watching your cambridge vlogs AND NOOWWW I am an instructor(still watching you) and you are a businesswoman (still vlogging!❤️) 😍😍😍😍 Ohh… time flies so fast!
I prefer working from home. The lights in offices give me headaches and I don't like the background noise and having people around me. The commute would take 1 and a half hours out of my day as well and I don't enjoy being on a bus packed full with noisy people, especially during covid times. Our office is also making us take covid tests every single day if we're unvaccinated and we can't be in the office at the same time as lots of other people even if we are vaccinated, so I much prefer to just stay home to avoid all that. And I have found since working from home, I'm much more relaxed and confident when working and I have more time for other things I enjoy. I have much more energy too.
I haaaaaaaate working from home! I miss talking to colleagues and the incidental conversations you have running into people around the office. So glad to be back when lockdowns lift.
I'm team working from home! I get more things done when I'm at home, in my cozy room and I can concentrate better. I also like that I don't have to commute😁
Travelling to and from work in the middle of winter can be a pain , get there in the dark and go home in the dark , not to mention the extra expense of actually travelling , both my daughters are dreading having to go back to the office after being at home for so long , don't throw the pink joggers away just yet !
You should link to your internship video as we got to see what it looks like in there. Well done for making it through the first day, which absolutely sucks for everyone unless you're in a situation where every single person starts at the same time.
The first day at work in an office is a milestone for sure, it reminded me of your vlog when travelling to Cambridge for the very first time as an undergraduate. Was that really nearly four years ago?? 😟
I've preferred working in an Office compared to home but as a 1st year PhD at the IoA. They're so friendly and daily Tea & Coffee with all the academics is a lot of fun. Plus because of Covid I got my own office room. And walking through Cambridge is not the worst commute
Nice Video and congratulations🎊🎉I think working from the office is better, because you have the social interaction with other people and it's "more professional" so I would prefer working from office.
I've been working from home for the last three months and I love the freedom and loseness at home, BUT it is really hard to sit in your room all day and don't get out at all. In the evenings I always crave some time outside of the house, bec.otherwise you go crazy!
So so happy for you Paige!!! 🎉🎉 All the very best 👍👍 Though I am just a thirteen year old, I feel really motivated by seeing the amount of experience and enthusiasm you have for every thing❤️All the very best 👍👍
Yay, you did it! I'm kinda of jealous as I'm waiting so desperately to be back in the office, I used to work in the office before the pandemic and now after 1,5 year of sitting at home and feeling like I'm the only one in the world who is struggling with the workload, queries, loneliness etc. I'm looking forward to be back and get used to again to interacting with people. The only thing which worries me a little bit is, of course, commuting, as I moved flats in the meanwhile and also changed the company so not sure how it will work out. But anyway, still waiting to see people who are not cut just below the shoulders!
I do like to meet my colleagues in person but overall prefer working from home. It just allows more flexibility in my day and time from not commuting/prepping to commute. When I was earlier in my career (in my early 30s now) I did go into the office more though.
I once worked for one of the giant international accounting firms. I stupidly turned down a transfer to London (from Los Angeles). And oddly enough I once thought about taking an actuarial exam. But I think you should explain to your audience that jobs such as ours are not as glamorous and exciting as they no doubt think they are.
I'm still in uni and see the physical lectures as my office and this semester I'm going to school physically in all of the 5 weekdays except for two weeks where it's 4 days and two later weeks writing an at-home exam. Even though I study drama/theatre which only works physically, I get so tired after a 9-15 day at school and am usually not motivated to read the curriculum or work out at the gym when my weekdays consist of waking up early and using public transport to and from uni etc. So I definitely appreciate having a study day at home or lectures that are more theoretical on zoom in between the physical lectures. I would then have time to work out as well and not get tired too quickly. Unfortunately for the introverted me, it's gonna be all physical. I guess I just have to adjust as we did during the start of the pandemic! Too much online or physical is awful for me and I like having a balance of them.
I haven't really had the opportunity to work my job from home. I'm a therapist and doing therapy online just doesn't do the trick in my experience. Certain aspects have been online like supervision and seminars, but I have been seeing patients in person all throughout the pandemic. I did envy the people that could do their work from home in front of their computers in their sweatpants and be safe like that, not gonna lie 😅
Prefer working at the actual office than WFH coz of the professional atmosphere, nice setting and as u said social interaction. But a mixture of WFH at times is even better 👌
For me its not one or the other when it comes to choosing between working in the office and WFH. Ideally I want a bit of both. So 3 in the office, 1 from home and 1 study day is ideal for me. Guess its similar to you Paige?
I can not tell you how it is working from home , I work as a carer and in my job I can not work from home I will start nursing school in September one day a week. so making homework will be the only work I will do from home (except for household) ....:) :) it is nice to hear that your first day was a good day, Are you going to move closer to your work....
I would much rather work at home because I can start and leave when I want and I do better with communicating with people online than in person. I do not work because I have a disability pension due to my Asperger's syndrome.
I start a new job on the 31st and i feel like its the first day of school. My previous job was work from home and going into the office now feels so weird
There are advantages to both working areas. Your plan will work for you, no doubt about it. Be confident, you are a professional now, and will be able to handle your goals. :o)
i donot like idea of working from home though it saves much time but for me, i cannot focus on my work if i am at home....after half an hour of work i would end up watching youtube..

I prefer working at home because I loved being able to manage my own time but I definitely understand why so many people don't enjoy it

Good luck!!
I want to study in cambridge university. But cun't understand what should I do to fulfill my dream. Please advise me. Now I am in class 12 in India.
