What annoys me is that it's the media that keeps comparing Ariana to Mariah, and not Ariana herself. From watching these interviews, Ariana has made it very clear that she would like to focus more on herself and her success than any comparisons. I think that every artist gets compared with another artist before him/her/them that had a similar style. It's just the way the business goes. Think about any artist that's "hot" right now in terms of album sales, media attention, what not, and tell me there isn't another one just like him/her/them. Every new artist that comes out will be compared to their predecessors. No one is really that original anymore. Even new songs have recycled beats/samples of old popular songs in them. The music trend tend to be cyclical.

What annoys me is that it's the media that keeps comparing Ariana to Mariah, and not Ariana herself. From watching these interviews, Ariana has made it very clear that she would like to focus more on herself and her success than any comparisons. I feel that Ariana was heavily inspired by Mariah but she isn't the "NEXT MARIAH CAREY". Mariah isn't just all about the whistle notes. She also has some killer belts, strong lower register, her dreamy whisper register and her amazing vocal runs, improvs and musicality. Ariana is her own star, just as Mariah. I think that Ariana is a babyish, white version of Mariah's vocals from Charmbracelet (belt and whistle) + Memoirs Of An Imperfect (whisper and lower register and musical style) + Daydream (silkiness of voice)

With a new generation that compares the two without really knowing more about Mariah than the Christmas failure or "Touch My Body," they seem to be unaware of the fact that Mariah has paid more than her fair share of her dues and has done more in and for music than most other artists combined.

I think that every artist gets compared with another artist before him/her/them that had a similar style. It's just the way the business goes. Think about any artist that's "hot" right now in terms of album sales, media attention, what not, and tell me there isn't another one just like him/her/them. Every new artist that comes out will be compared to their predecessors. No one is really that original anymore. Even new songs have recycled beats/samples of old popular songs in them. The music trend tend to be cyclical.

Ariana is not the 'next' Mariah Carey. Mariah is Mariah, and Ariana is Ariana. Mariah is a legend, obviously. But if you actually listen to Ariana's album, it sounds nothing like anything Mariah would sing. Mariah is 100% THE vocalist, but that doesn't mean Ariana can't sing. She didn't "sit at home and study Mariah", she's her, and she's real. Stop comparing her to Mariah and focus on her music, She has an amazing voice, leave her alone.

I don't agree with Ariana's comparison of how "Mariah was the new Whitney, and Whitney was the new Aretha, Aretha was the new Ella" Because each of those artists were very significantly different from eachother and if those artists were compared to eachother, it was not from being or the sound being alike but only because it was the newest big voice. Ariana on the other hand (not hating or taking away anything from her talent) is not the next big thing, she has talent in her voice and she can make some hits and be a good recording artist but she is not the new big thing in voice because she is "similar" to Mariahs voice sound, not significantly different in a big way like Mariah, Whitney, Aretha & Ella were.
If anything and nothing truer than this...Ariana, weather intentional or not, owe's a great deal for her success because she is riding on the coattails of Mariah's sound. Lets be honest if Mariah never existed, do you think Ariana would either be known, have her sound, or people compare her and make her this famous because of Mariah? I loved watching Mariah's personality when she first came on tv at 18-20, but don't really care for Mariah's personality now as it seems like a game or putting a front now or being like a diva weather for fun or not its not genuine and innocent as before. Maria is a professional and you can tell. Araina, has a good voice, but she needs a singing coach. She's very pitchy, can't control her breathing and her high notes are flat when she sings them live.
