    great landing ! lots of holding off ! Just how i was taught. There seems to be a a trend in the US to land firm with lots of energy and make it a "greaser" landing like in a commercial aircraft. Secondly, there must be difference in radio calls in the US to how we were taught in New Zealand. We don't give "taking off calls" as technically, you aren't actually taking off at that point, only "lining up". The take off comes later. So we do "lining up", then a "rolling" call when you're actually taking off.

      Landing flat with way too much airspeed and energy is an American thing? I see a lot of crappy landings here but I figured that was universal lol. Very few people here understand the danger of too much speed and energy left over after landing.
      We have enough traffic here we pretty much make one call and done for the takeoff. The radio gets too busy for more. We also share frequencies with other airports in the area. 1500 ft and you can hear calls from 5 or more airports. On the ground you can’t hear any other airports so you might be stomping on calls here. It also mimics tower operations here. The tower clears you for takeoff , you repeat it and go.

    I am currently a student pilot myself at the moment.
    I love how you set up your camera. Just perfect! The best of all the videos I have seen on youtube.
    I am having a hard time making consistent good landings at the moment and by watching your video, I picked up a lot of tips (when to reduce RPM, best airspeed on base, and finally best airspeed just before the round out.
    Very nice landings there. Thank you for mounting your camera this way and for posting your videos for us to see. I learned a lot.

    Love the videos… could we perhaps see more video close ups of coordinated foot pedal rudder action and hand yoke controls? Great job to all your students! 👍

      Hmm maybe I’ll see what I can do. Usually I just tell my students to turn left and use left rudder the turn right abs use right rudder at some point the get a feel for coordination and the proper amounts. It’s not technically the correct way to do it but everyone seems to figure it out given time and then they start using rudder correctly.

    Congrats, nicely done. But landing with carby hot? Did you teach that? Good job your student didn't need a go-around or extra power on the land. Carby cold on final...

      Yeah I teach carb heat hot/on for landing ...It’s located pretty ergonomically in a Cessna 172 so it makes sense to me. Other aircraft it definitely makes sense to bring it back to cold for final.
      When instructing I try to let someone else take the liability when I can and in this case the Cessna 172n model POH has it on for landing and off for balked landings/ go arounds and that’s the main reason I don’t bring it back off /cold for final in a Cessna 172.

    I'm about to start my PPL training, any tips from a grear instructor? Any questions to ask my fi, anything I should learn first?

      @Brad w, well I would suggest taking a few flights with a couple different instructors and find one you learn from and that doesn’t add stress to the flights.
      You might ask how many sign offs they have and the name of the examiner they use for checkrides. I see a lot of instructors struggle with the end of PPL and getting students finished. You want to make sure the instructor is getting students finished with a fairly high pass rate.
      I suggest the use of syllabus that spells out each lesson and what should be taught... Jeppsen sells a pretty good one. It keeps you and the instructor on task for each lesson and let’s you know what’s expected and you can show up prepared for each lesson. I see a lot of people with lots of wasted time in their log books because the instructor they previously had didn’t have a clear plan for every lesson.
      Take a look at their planes... they can be old but they need to be solid with good breaks , tires ,engine and they should have three a few planes. If the instructor owns his own plane one is fine, but expect delays when it’s down for maintenance.
      “Have fun and fly more” is the most important thing !

    how is the GoPro mounted please? On the Passenger window with a suction cup?

      It is mounted upside down hanging from the front window (suction cup). Makes for Least vibration and best picture angle I have been able to find short of putting some weird tripod in the back seat.

      65 knots until short final for normal landings and 60 knots for short field and soft field landings.

      Colorado department of transportation ? Lol... I even googled CO dot and couldn’t figure out what it is. I’m guessing I’ll be like “oh!” when I figure it out but for now I’m stumped 🤔.

      @@NEROAviation It's the ASA Carbon Monoxide (CO) detector dot that you have stuck to your panel. A good friend of mine had his exhaust crack on landing and didn't know it. On the next flight, he passed out 5 minutes after takeoff. Miraculously, the plane flew until it ran out of gas and self landed in an open field. He as badly injured, but lived through it. He had one of those CO dots in his plane and the only thing it was good for was telling the crash investigators why he crashed. He (we) now flies with an electronic monitor that goes into alarm mode when it detects CO, flashing and beeping. We've kind of made it our mission to inform pilots of the risk anytime we see one of those worthless spot detectors.

      @@NEROAviation Its a carbon monoxide "detector". It changes color when CO is in the cockpit. CO is deadly, preventing oxygen delivery to the cells and can cause a blackout or death depending on concentration and exposure time. Regardless of the detection method the plane has, if it says there's CO, get the plane on the ground ASAP.

      I’ll admit it does look pretty flat and my mom sent me the flat earth videos lol.
      The reason I know it’s round is because if it was flat someone would have made the edge into a cheesy tourist attraction by now.
