    I feel his vision for the brand is a lot deeper than what the customer (who I’ve seen buy and seek this product). there’s a stark contrast between then people who flock toward his brands bc of his name and because of the “simplicity “ of the brand. people from my experience love his brand because it’s simple but it’s recognizable in the sense that I’m wearing something by Jerry Lorenzo who’s respected in the street wear turned luxury space. watching the recent show at first i was like I’ve seen this before (MaxMara + SportsMax) but now I’m thinking I’ve never seen it done in this way for this consumer. there’s something about that and the accessibility that’s being offered as opposed to the brands i mentioned.

    The uncomfortable nature in which Lorenzo tries to describe his ideas comes from his inability to codify his process, in a way which allows others to understand. He's not the only victim of this, most creatives struggle with verbalising their vision.

    • @miestail
      @miestail ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Maybe he does sound uncomfortable. However, the explanations are great. It is difficult to explain something that is complex and that has many nuances. Regardless of being a creative or not.

    Around the 4min mark he asks him about what he means about transformation and then he goes on to totally fail to answer this point. He can't answer; it sounds great to say that his clothing is transformational, but it's a total reach. You can also under see against an erudite and learned interviewer he struggles to answer with any great intellect and just reverts to bland statements that sound like a PR blurb.

    • @chelbella5025

      I don't think you realize how careful he has to be speaking to this specific audience. Jerry is very spiritual and he loves Jesus Christ, something this audience doesn't fully grasp the depth of. If you look up other interviews with him with say Steven Furtick, you'll see how deep it really goes. Transformative is difficult to explain if he's not allowed to speak about his faith. Knowing his other interviews, he did a great job with this specific audience.

    This is intersting ,
    If anyone knows Chris Do , he is a designer (from graphic to motion graphic to other)
    Perhaps it's because he was also a lecturer, that he is very articulate.
    Jerry Lorenzo, in his own words is not necessarily a conventional or traditional designer , but rather a story teller and communicator.
    However Jerry is a not so good communicator nor is he articulate.
    I see people clowning and joking on him , and thats cool , but I just wanted to say it's cool that people like Jerry and Virgil(R.I.P.) and Pharrell are in these spaces aiding people who wouldn't have a chance to get into it at a particular level , gain a foot in the door.
    In the end the wave we see after the Virgils and Kanyes and Pharrells and Jerrys will be quite diverse and very interesting.

      Individuals like such, allow for their ART to be the expression of what their mind is truly thinking. We as humans get so caught up in "Definition" we lose sight of the message. There's a clear vision in sight for Jerry, whether people like how he "articulates" his statements, yet same individuals would choose to ridicule if he went into some [overtly] deep-insight-dive about his process. Sometimes, a lot of things are better off left unsaid.

    You can tell that they do not like each other lol the interviewer comes off very condescending in this interview and in the other one they did. Seems like he does not buy into this self made designers vision while Jerry sees this guy as the old guard of fashion that has no connection to the pulse of what he is trying to propose. Watch the difference in this interview’s energy vs when Jerry talked to Kerwin Frost.

    • @TheDeal007
      @TheDeal007 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tim Blanks is a part of the "old guard" in fashion, but to say he has no connection to the pulse of what's going on is incorrect. He is a highly respected and intelligent journalist who has always championed small designers, especially ones that work outside of the mainstream fashion industry, and is always having deep conversations about the current cultral zeitgeist. Jerry might just be nervous and struggling to put together coherent answers because the kinds of questions Tim is asking him require more introspection, which will then give way to a much better answer than what Jerry provides. As for the Kerwin interview, while enjoyable, it was much more of a conversation in a relaxed and casual environment, than this interview set on the BOF stage.
