I've owned one of these beasts since I bought it from the original owner in 1999. I paid 300.00 for it back then. Still have it today paired with the Pioneer GR 777 digital EQ. Me and my Russian Blue cat love it :)

Awesome!! I hope to get that GR 777 someday, rare find.
Thanks for your time and input. All the best.

The fact that there are jumpers for all the amps begs the quesiton of "Why don't they make it easy to disable the power to the disconnected amps both to save electricity and to dramatically reduce the amount of heat the unit generates when being used as a pre-amp?" :-) Thanx for making this video.

Great question to ask!! You are absolutely correct.
Thanks for watching it, wish I could do it better.
      Best regards

There's no need to have an option to disable the power to disconnected amps, in the configuration in this video, the built in amp power transistors aren't doing anything, they're not driving any speakers, it's only being used as a pre amp, the amp will obly get warm and won't damage anything, it's been desgined to handle this quite well, just make sure there's adequate air flow at the top of the amp, "to save electricity" the unit doesn't use that much even when it's being played loud and driving speakers, it's not like you're using $100 a week on electricity.

Nice! I used the SX 780, that was nice too.

Definitely as far as power output at 300 wpc RMS, definitely good for power hungry low impedence speakers. It's up there with real good separate power amplifiers for sure. Most people don't really need more than 150-160 wpc RMS of clean power though. I have a Denon 4802r 7.1 receiver and a couple of these vintage VSX TotL units.
Denon 4800 + 5800 series and Yamaha Rx Z series pre HDMI receivers (2001-2005,06) are still monster receivers with good quality amplification performance + Torrodial power supply..... although even a Denon 5800 is around a 100 wpc RMS short of your Sx 1980. All these units can run 7.1 Dts+Dolby Digital surround sound; a big advantage for more applications/usage, though despite being outdated obsolete technology.

My D1s has DSP issues and works only via Direct mode.

Sorry to hear that, may need to replace few parts. But you can use it for listening music with two channels, right ?
