I just got gifted an old singer 31k19!! The one with the kick foot... got it from the original owners son, with the table, sl2 lamp, bobbin winder and original clutchless semi-industrial 180w singer motor that sits under the table and has a brake on it... It will be used and preserved just as is, no modern ad ons.
Hi Derek, ironic how you moved from CA to CO with a bunch of old industrial Singers, and I moved from CO to CA with a bunch of industrial Singers.😂 you have all of my favorite models. You and I should really chat about these machines.
I was able to confirm that my machine is a 31-20 by comparing it to the info on this video. The plate for the model number is missing. The serial number confirms where and when it was made. It is a fantastic machine.
I've just acquired a vintage Singer. The model plate is gone and the serial number is hard to read. I'm thinking it's a 95, but it could also be a 31 from the looks of it. It's mounted on a free motion quilting frame and doesn't have a feed dogs or stitch length regulator (not necessary for free motion). What has surprised me the most is how QUIET these machines are!
I’ve seen and had machines converted to free motion machines. You can just add the feed dogs back to sew regular again. 95s are just shorter 31s. If you measure it you’ll know which one you have.
Thanks. It just pops in from the bottom on the left side. Very similar to most sewing machines from that era, both industrial and domestic. Any specific thing you had a question with?
Hi, there should be a spring with a small screw on the side of the bobbin case that you can tighten up to get more tension. Also make sure your bobbin is wound correctly and not loose as that will affect it also.
@@raymercado3650 For needles go with the bigger size to handle the thread. I use a size 20 or 22 with my denim and I think that should work for your leather. I think they go up to 24.

Fantastic! Keeping it original is the way to go. Have fun with it!
I just picked up the same one today, I hope to repair my boat canvas with it.

lol I wouldn't suggest anyone else move with a bunch of old industrials. They took up 1/2 of the truck!

I have the 31-17 I use it on all things I sew very good machine
The 31-17 is a very nice machine. Originally for leather too so it should handle anything you throw at it. Thanks for watching.
Hi Derek, where can I get the servo motor for the machine? Any recommendations for needles for light leather? Thanks Ray

i found i singer 31k 47 with a kick foot could you add reverse or could a add the kick foot parts to a different singer like a 319k
I don't think you can easily add reverse. Best to just get another machine with it if you need it.

Hi thanks for watching. As to a supplier I don’t have one. Just get the part number and call your local industrial sewing shop. Or an internet one.
А у меня на singer номер 31 D 70 и на каждой детали написано simanco
Nice! The "D" means it's made in Pre-War Germany.

If your number is a 31D70 the D means Germany (pre war).
@@derekdoeschannel а вы где территориально находитесь?
Hey Derek, what is the difference between the 31-20 and the 31-15 is? There's one for sale near me quite reasonable.
Hi, the main difference is the 20 has a slightly larger bobbin and a wee bit more clearance under the foot. Both excellent machines to own.
Thanks mate!@@derekdoeschannel
Hey Derek, how thick can these 31k32 sew?
I don't know really. I'd guess 1/2 or 5/8" or so?
