Ah, priceless reaction, Rus! Thanks so much for making this video and especially the work you are doing to document the captive-breeding of the blue df beetles! I can't wait to see the next progress update on the incubation of them!
That's so cool! I got some of my first isopods from him-- the calico morph he used to carry was phenomenal. I had no idea velvet ants could be white, either!
Hi Rus! Love the white velvet ant! Super pretty. I might have to consider one for my bdfb enclosure. Also, how do you keep your beetle jelly moist? Mine seems to dry out, but I also put little bits into a dish instead of keeping it in the cup it comes in.
Oatie's Plushery Thank you! I mist the jelly every day or two. It prolongs its edibility. I asked Peter about this...after he mists it for a while, it gets too dry and he feeds it off to roaches or other bugs, so I have started to do that as well. My isopods like it that way.
Aquarimax Pets That’s great to know! I will definitely try misting it from now on. I don’t have any other inverts to feed the dried bits too, but that could change! I appreciate your response! :)
I have a few and thinking about breeding, the incubator link doesn't seem to work for me. Do you mind just giving me the type of incubator it is? Also thank you for the DIY bug jelly for my harlequin beetles because I knew they like more liquidy foods!
Fun fact, velvet ants currently aren’t able to bred in captivity because they’re kleptoparasites, meaning the female lays her eggs in the nests of other wasps, similar to what the cow bird and Eurasian cuckoo do to other birds, the more you know
Kevin Poe True! My cousin in an entomologist specialized in solitary wasps and bees. He has tried to offer the larvae of wasps and bees to see if he could stimulate oviposition. The velvet ants merely fed on the hemolymph of the the wasp larvae.
Joshua Knoebel. There is some risk that they will he eaten by the parents...or by larger larvae, and will eventually die if they do not have the correct pupation temperatures, so removal is best.
It is always worth contacting Peter directly, even if he is sold out. If he knows you are looking for something, he can tell you when he expects it back in.
@@DarrenCook-eq4ss @dragonUdo Sorry about that. We have briefly run out of them as of about 10 days ago after not being out of them a single time in the past year. I do always list them conservatively on the site and so they may appear as sold out, but aren't really. I update the page for them multiple times per day. There is always a lot (of bugs) to monitor in this way but if I didn't do it one of a thousand pet stores would buy out my inventory since I list them at a very affordable price they can buy and resell at. Pet stores or dealers at reptile shows will often charge 2 to 3 times as much, and I'd prefer to sell them directly to the online hobbyists Rus and the rest of us love most! I could manage inventory too by doubling or tripling the price so that I never ever run out or have to worry about listing them all at once and one store coming along and buying them at what are essentially wholesale prices, but that would be a jerky thing to do, eh? ;)

Do the blue death feigning beetle larvae have to be removed?

Hello sry I missed a few streams
Deana Ogorman Hi! Maybe I’ll catch you on the next one! 👍
He's sold out... Everytime I try to find BDFB they are sold out! :(
Always sold out and says limit of three 🙁

Isopods and More Contacting Peter directly is likely to be useful.
