Here I am still in catch-up mode... What excellent choices! You guys keep on giving me ideas on what to try and what to hunt for, but it's uncanny how every one of Bart's choices is pretty much what I would choose... I always suspected that our palates were similar, but in my mind they are getting closer to identical with every bottle of peated whisky.
Im in love too with the Laphroaig Lore, it's my favourite Laphroaig so far! That peat with the sherry cask and the wet rocks, grass, cinnamon... its amazing
Robert from whisky scout and I swapped samples and he gave me some of the Bruichladdich Peat Project. I was was shocked at how good it was. Great choices guys!
I was pleasantly surprised by the Lore and agree with you guys. It was definitely in the tops of my whisky this year. In no particular order: Laphroaig Lore Glengoyne 25 Glenmorangie Signet Colonel EH Taylor Straight Rye Bottled in Bond Glengoyne 18 / Arran 18
I agree with Scott. Balvenie Tun Batch 3 is awesome. Went through a bottle this year and forgot how good it was until I saw this video. Great video guys!
That Bruichladdich Infinity you have in the wings is really special. The one I had was the 1st release with the blue/teal label, 100% Sherry matured at 55.5%, a kicker!, the 2nd was a purple label, the 3rd was a black bottle and those two were wine finished. Which do you have?
2nd Edition Rioja Casks 52.5% then. Nice. I believe those were from some of the older stock available before they reopened in 2001 or at least mixed with.
💥Boom💥thx guys for this huge selection of great bottles! Helps me a lot to decide what’s coming up next on Moses shelves ;))) Lovely Greetings and cheers buds
Bart, I bought the Port Charlotte Scottish Barley on your recommendation on the live stream. It’s awesome. I was surprised to see Jim McEwan’s signatures on the bottle as well. Thought it would have changed by now. Delicious like bacon wrapped shrimp!
My top 5 are the Bunna Moine Olorosso, Kilchoman 6 Year old single sherry cask from Royal Mile Whiskies, Lagavulin 12 year old 2017 edition, Compass box no name and lastly a Glenrothes 1997 20 Year Old from TWE and Whisky Agency. Seems to be a bit of a peaty theme this year.
thats a tough one Nate. I'd have to go side by side, but probably the Octomores. The Octomore's just bring something you don't get until you taste. The 6.3 being my fav with the 7.3 close behind.
Great details for the 2017 Top5. Come on 2018! "Stand back while I whip this out!" Classic line from "Blazing Saddles"?? The Macallan CC is like $75 or 80 at our CostCo.
Can’t knock any of those picks, 2017 was a good year. As I think another commenter has alluded too, please please please get hold of the Glengoyne 21, it is immense! Here’s to a great 2018, Slainte
STD, Great review on your 2017 picks. Bart almost mentioned the upcoming Lagavulin review. What happened to "Screaming Elvis" or whatever the phrase is. You must get a bottle of the Glengoyne 25 before it doubles in price. Can't wait for the new year. Thanks guys.
"velvet Elvis" is our safe word. Meaning I'm talking too much and have to stop...Usually that happens when I'm telling a story and not about to discuss Lagavulin. But I'm sure Scott will start breaking it out again.
Great lists guys! My list in no particular order is Lot 40 cask strength Port charlotte 10 limited edition Bunnahabhain 12 Glendronach 18 single cask tawny port Bowmore tempest 10
The only one on these lists i personally have in my cabinet is the Lore... it is delicious... I tried Glengoyne 12 thanks to you, It’s not as tastefull as I wished (compared to The Arran 12), but nevertheless a quality Whisky, and those guys at Glengoyne deserve some honor. Have a dramtastic 2018!
I'm with Bart - Lore was the best for me in 2017, too. :) Also, could you get your hands on Laphroaig Cairdeas 2017? It was Cask Strength Quarter Cask, just like the Kilchoman in this video. Would love to see your opinions on that one.
Love it boys. Great stuff and too much to dissect but, WHAT ABOUT THE LAGAVULIN? (Every year has it's charms - 2014 is a good one) This shows just how personal a drink whisky is. Furthermore it's very dependent on your mood and state of being. Glad you got that Tun at last Scott but it's so expensive. Any whisky that costs that sort of money should be great. Bart, that's too expensive for the Lore in my opinion. I thought it was nice but £65 tops. I don't think I could choose a favourite but I have enjoyed a few combined sherry and peat bombs this year that could appeal to you both. Bunnahabhain Moine Oloroso (60.1%); G&M Caol Ila cask strength (1st fill sherry barrels around 60%); Kilchoman - anything in general. Port Charlotte 10. I've really enjoyed some great ex-bourbon barrel whisky this year but you guys don't review them very much. No peat or sherry but good cask management can produce stunning whisky. Great review as always guys. Have a great 2018. WT
Lore tastes much older/mellower peat and slightly rich Sherry notes. Quarter cask is very in your face with the youthful peat and oaky notes. Both quite good in different ways.
Nice lists...I really need to try something from Compass Box, thinking perhaps the No Name. Hey Bart, have you tried the Bunnahabhain Cruach Mhona (peated), actually means Peat Stack? I'm nearly through my liter bottle, have to say, I quite liked it, especially price point. Great mouthfeel, typical of Bunnahabhain, and quite strong peat, perhaps even more than an Ardbeg 10, although less medicinal and complex.
Scotch Test Dummies Oh it's nice and tasty, I add a splash of water to it, and it comes even more alive...what has me curious is the age, because the peaty smoke is quite strong, I'd think younger, but it has natural color which is quite bronzy and fairly deep, perhaps the 50%abv??
I have a special (all natural) "bottle bouncing" material that is covering my driveway right now, so if I could find a great rare bottle I could safely park in my driveway with no threat whatsoever of breaking a bottle onto my driveway. Our all-natural driveway bottle breakage proofing is something you'd have if you lived in Vermont like I do. My driveway protection material even piles up uncomfortably high (higher than needed for proper dropped bottle protection) and so I have a special driveway 'grooming' machine (12 horsepower!) to git er down to the right height. We don't see our driveways about six months of the year... We sometimes forget what our uncovered driveways look like. We have a special name for the time of year when we have the joy of seeing our driveway surfaces again. Here in Vermont we call it "Mud Season." Cheers!
Ran out and grabbed Lore after watching this last night. Not a fan of peeted scotch normally, but this one was pretty good. Had an unexpected strong finish going down. Thanks for the recommendation.
Wow, I think I missed Scott's honorable mention. Bart had the Redbreast 12yo CS. Did I really miss Scott's HM? I guess I better re-watch the ending. ha
You can do that. Check out our website and the T-Shirt link. You can basically design your own shirt/hoodie including one of our 5 designs, the color of the shirt and the style and size. It's really cool. We need to discuss that more.
The company that does all the Compass Box packaging and labels is stranger and stranger, they have an instagram, not sure what else they have though to contact them through
thats Crazy... 120$ for the Glengoyne 18?? WOW... here in Germany the 18yo will sell by 60€ thats about 75$... WTF... yeah ok European State but... whoooohooooo
so i went 3 liquor stores..empty handed...SoS.. laphroig 10 ?..qaurter cask?,,aberfeldy 10..highland park..springbank 10..cao ila 12 and distillers edition..too many to pick..my store just got these ..first time i have seen themmm which one dummies??? ok pick 2 ..give your thoughts my scotch gurus..oh and Scotts Glen farclas 12/...HELP !!..lol
One Day I want to see Bart wearing an anti barking collar and Scott with the control. It could be the human kind if we fill the sprayer with Barts least loved scotch! ;)
Love that you both gave your respective top 5s! Your different tastes helps and something I enjoy, bart has opened me up to peat!
thanks JH H!
Here I am still in catch-up mode... What excellent choices! Thanks Quig! Top Bourbons/America's whiskies tomorrow!
Good show gentlemen ,saved it for the evening were I could pour one with the show.Cheers
thanks santa for supporting!
Im in love too with the Laphroaig Lore, it's my favourite Laphroaig so far! That peat with the sherry cask and the wet rocks, grass, cinnamon... its amazing
Yum yum
Robert from whisky scout and I swapped samples and he gave me some of the Bruichladdich Peat Project. I was was shocked at how good it was. Great choices guys!
thanks Keith!
Outstanding picks fellas. Can’t wait to see what 2018 brings. Cheers
Thanks Bronco!
I was pleasantly surprised by the Lore and agree with you guys. It was definitely in the tops of my whisky this year.
In no particular order:
Laphroaig Lore
Glengoyne 25
Glenmorangie Signet
Colonel EH Taylor Straight Rye Bottled in Bond
Glengoyne 18 / Arran 18
Nice, thanks David!
Bart - The design firm Stranger & Stranger creates all the art for Compass Box packaging.
Boom! Awesome. Thanks Liza.
Excellent episode guys! I would wear that polo to work. I have to get me one or three of them.
Thanks Billy!
The art work is done by Stranger & Stranger for Compass Box
yes it is, we have since learned that, and John Glaser is working on a special bottle to commemorate Stranger and Stranger.
I agree with Scott. Balvenie Tun Batch 3 is awesome. Went through a bottle this year and forgot how good it was until I saw this video. Great video guys!
It is stellar.
As always love the content guys!!
thanks Brian.

Purple label.
2nd Edition Rioja Casks 52.5% then. Nice. I believe those were from some of the older stock available before they reopened in 2001 or at least mixed with.
We're going to review it! I think Bart's already opened it!
Have you tried Paul John Indian whisky all of them are great
we had samples of the Edited and the Bold, both were good but we need more dissect.
I can attest to the awesomeness of he 2017 Lagavulin 12yo. Only other one I had was the 2014 -- 2017, IMO,...better. Twas a good year for you boys.
Thanks Billy! we'll take a look at the 14 next to the 17.
💥Boom💥thx guys for this huge selection of great bottles! Helps me a lot to decide what’s coming up next on Moses shelves ;)))
Lovely Greetings and cheers buds
thanks mosesumike!
I think I should be able to join! Excellent
Yeah!
Great top list! I havent tasted all of these, but I am with you on the Lore, Dark Cove, Glengoyne and ......the Lagavulin 12 CS :)
hey! we haven't reviewed that one yet! thanks Ebbhead!
Bart, I bought the Port Charlotte Scottish Barley on your recommendation on the live stream. It’s awesome. I was surprised to see Jim McEwan’s signatures on the bottle as well. Thought it would have changed by now. Delicious like bacon wrapped shrimp!
Boom. I like the way you talk Box. Bart

great list Kian! thanks!
Great review!!! Great scotches!!!
thanks hasenpheffer!
Was not expecting Bart to pull out a lowland blend 😲
Bam!
@@ScotchTestDummies I honestly have just about all of the Douglas Laing regional blends except that one... Now I'm considering getting it.
How would you compare the Laphroaig Lore to the Octomore line(particularly the 7.3)?
thats a tough one Nate. I'd have to go side by side, but probably the Octomores. The Octomore's just bring something you don't get until you taste. The 6.3 being my fav with the 7.3 close behind.

it'll be January for our Top 5's! The sheriff is near!
@@ScotchTestDummies BwaaaHaHaaaa!!! Good thing I wasn't drinking when I read that!! Happy New Year!!
Very appropriate shirt for Bart.
dont' encourage him 😉
Can’t knock any of those picks, 2017 was a good year. As I think another commenter has alluded too, please please please get hold of the Glengoyne 21, it is immense! Here’s to a great 2018, Slainte
Glengoynes and Glendronachs are always on my list! thanks James. Scott

I really want to try the Macallan classic cut.. Here in PA it is 89.99 a bottle. Ugh.
Love it. Scott
I would love to see you guys do one of Aqvavitae's Blind taste tests.
We would love that too.
Great lists guys! My list in no particular order is
Lot 40 cask strength
Port charlotte 10 limited edition
Bunnahabhain 12
Glendronach 18 single cask tawny port
Bowmore tempest 10
Heard good things about the dronach 18 tawny port! good list.
Wow, you drank some great stuff last year! Excellent round up!
I don't know if its Roy "great" but pretty good!
Have a dramtastic 2018!
now I would take the Glengoyne over the Arran. Thanks Patrick. Scott
We’ve wanted to try laphroaig lore for a while! Good choices here. A lot of stuff we haven’t had yet.
all in good time!
Great time watchin this. (With a glass of Epicurian)
thanks Dusty! Bart really likes that one.
I'm with Bart - Lore was the best for me in 2017, too. :)
Also, could you get your hands on Laphroaig Cairdeas 2017? It was Cask Strength Quarter Cask, just like the Kilchoman in this video. Would love to see your opinions on that one.
if we could find it, Bart would buy it!
You scotch gods, love your channel. I'm a bourbon head, but I do enjoy a good single malt. Bruchladdich 👍👍👍peat baby
Thanks Charles, top 5 bourbons coming out Wednesday!
Do you guys have glengoyne 25 on your radar for a review this year?
Definitely on the radar, will have to see if price and timing is conducive!
Wow, so many I want to try.....👍
👍
Both times when Scott said which Balvenie that was, Bart was talking over him and I missed it. Watched twice and still couldn't catch it.
Balvenie Tun 1509 Batch 3! Glorious. thanks for watching James!

we are jealous Welsh! thanks for watching!
How does the Laphroaig Lore compare to the Laphroaig Quarter Cask?
Quarter Cask has more wood flavor for Bart...Lore has a more smokey savory flavor.
Glen Scotia Victoriana
Nikka coffey grain
The Double Single was considered in mine as well. thanks Jamie. Scott
Scotch Test Dummies i had to do 6, couldnt leave one out. Haven't sent samples in a while, will have to send some soon.
Samples always accepted! The quick hitters are helping!
Y'all should do a show of the most smoky whiskeys. Max smoke players only
great idea Robot!
Still have not gotten in to Glengoyne

or the money, one of the two.
Ran out and grabbed Lore after watching this last night. Not a fan of peeted scotch normally, but this one was pretty good. Had an unexpected strong finish going down. Thanks for the recommendation.
Thanks Jarred for watching! I've seen several reveiwers have the Lore in their Lists for 17.

always great advise! Claire needs to follow it now too.
I love you guys
thanks Patrick!
A great selection of drams, boys. Watching this made me thirsty! I enjoyed the Lore too.
Thanks Scott!
Curse you and your Lagavulin teasing! Y'all should do an episode with your favorite bottle from each region though.
nice Matt, i like the way you talk. scott
My favorite? Macallan
Boom! Thanks Luis.
I’m thinking maybe it’s about time I open up the 21 y.o. I picked up last year at Glengoyne. 🥃
Always a good time to do that.

mine is at the beginning Andrew, Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy.
haha I guess I wasn't being very attentive at the beginning of the video.
I told you about the lag 2017 cask strength didn't I?
there's been a few. the first was Phil from Whisky Wednesday!
Very true. Many are discussing it.
The Glengoyne 21yo is 100% Sherry matured, the younger ones are a mix.
thats one i need to get. scott

Now I lie to myself about my good looks but never my whisky. Bart. I’m hot by the way!

that would be awesome Throttle! Scott
Ralfy called the Glengoyne 21, a classic old style malt.
The Glengoyne is going to boom in popularity this year, watch.
