By the way, for the initial opening and separating of the two halves, you don’t have to brute force pull it apart (especially because it’s hard to get a grip on it). I just took my mini-flathead and gently pressed it into the small notch on the back of the fob (which is visible in this video,) and gently pried it open. The two halves came apart easily. The part where you pry to expose the circuit board was a lot harder.

How much did they charge, out of curiousity?
key fob rob, made me bruise my thumbs, use a tiny screw driver (flat-head) and gently pry it open. ezpz

Replacing the battery on a 2004 X-Type didn't work. Any other ideas?
I'd get a new name brand battery and try that out
