Well it's more the ending, with Van Gogh seeing that his work is actually, truly loved when he thought no one appreciated his art. His reaction is just brilliant, so emotional.

For the first few months I found it and started watching...I had no idea they aired the show immediately after in 8 minutes and there was another Doctor. I would normally just turn the channel or go do something else but for some reason that fateful day, I didn't turn the channel. I heard the music and saw the title sequence and thought this great! I didn't know it came again right after! Then I saw another man's face as the Doctor and was upset because I had became such a fan of Pertwee's 3rd Doctor. I figured maybe they just changed actors because I heard my mom say a time or two that they do that on her favorite soaps. But I found it later about regeneration in "Planet of the Spiders."

Because Tennant got a huge female fanbase. And Eccleston just happened to be cute. Before that, he's often very plain looking. It's the same with new companions were the hot girl from modern UK--likely to bring in the dudes. It's why I think there will likely be a hot dude companion now that they've swapped. Maybe two companions, with one being a younger girl.

I've been watching Doctor Who since the late 70's. They used to play it on PBS here in America when there were only a few channels to choose from. I loved it as a kid and I still love it now- - - It's timeless.
This is the exact episode (blink)I tried to show someone to introduce them to the show but alas they just weren't interested It's funny how this is one of the best/interesting episodes and yet it's an episode without much doctor Did they seriously watch like 6/7 hours worth of doctor who? (I've watched entire seasons so no judgement but being in those chairs watching 6/7 hours) Regenerations always get me right in the feels
It's because Blink isn't a great episode to get people into it. It's a good episode but it really isn't Doctor Who, it's a one off episode that if people expect every week, they aren't gonna get.
Blink is the one episode you really shouldn't use as an example, it's designed to be different to the rest of the show. It's like trying to get people into the Harry Potter movies by showing them Fantastic Beasts instead of Harry Potter.
My ring tone is the Doctor Who theme song, so when they were lightly playing the song in the background at the end of the video, I kept searching for my phone, thinking I had a call, lol.
Watch the old episodes sparingly. The production value is very low, which makes it disappointingly hilarious. Fang Rock with Tom Baker(4th Doctor) was one. Also Green Death with John Pertwee(3rd Doctor) is great in all its cheesiness
Paddy Murphy start with the 9th doctor and work your way up, the 9th doctor only has one season then u get to the beloved David Tenant. The older ones are great too but harder to get into.
Nice video. I only got into Doctor Who about 6-7 years ago. When anyone asks me what episode to start with if 'new' to Who, I tell them 'Blink.' I then binged on all 'new' Who (2005 onward), and Tennant is my personal favorite, but all are good. Some stories better than others. Baker the best of the classic era. Keep watching folks.
Worth waiting for! You couldn't have actually shown them all of those individual episodes, it would have taken all day. It would b fun to see the collection of what-all the TRYers got to see. And boy howdy if you think Chris Eccleston's episodes had cheap FX, please have another vid of them watching Doctors 1 - 8! Strong writing and performance can cover a multitude of sins, and after awhile you become nostalgic for that one disused quarry that everything was filmed in if off-planet.
Yeah, I went to that Fathom Events showing of Genesis of the Daleks and when Sarah Jane pressed herself against a "brick" wall and it fucking _bounced,_ I laughed my ass off. I was the only one in the theater who found it amusing, however. Oh well.

I can see that. Trying to pick what to show the contributors, out of a show that ran for 26 years. Never mind what a different era and budget it is, just the workload merits a separate effort. That doesn't mean that it isn't for others; it seems to be a remarkably accessible show.
Tom Baker was the best known Dr Who incarnation in the U.S. for decades. But every one of the actors who have portrayed the Doctor brought such a unique perspective, they're all memorable. Have not seen number 13 yet. We're sort of backwards as Whovians here. :-)
Tennant's Doctor is definitely worth watching. It's not that The Ninth Doctor wasn't good, but with Ten that's where the story and the connection to the characters really set in. Besides, Donna and the Doctor were possibly the best Doctor Companion combo yet.
I often feel people who didn't like Donna, wanted that "Companion in love" storyline. But for me that's why Donna worked so well. She demanded respect, reacted accordingly to a lot of the BS happening around her, and she was there to be a /friend/ to the Doctor in a time where he desperately needed one. Love Donna. :)
Lysana McMillan everytime I see someone saying they didn't like Donna they say it's because she was too shouty and that's all she did. They don't bother to look closely at a character and see why they act the way they do, they just judge them on face value. Donna shouted a lot because her voice, opionions and self esteem were always being squashed, mostly by her mum's emotional abuse. The only thing she could do was shout as loud as she could until someone took her seriously and saw her for who she was and how amazing she could be. Wilf - "you're not gonna make the world any better by shouting at it." Donna - "I can try." I adore Donna - she is, and will always be my favourite companion. And her and the tenth Doctor had a beautiful friendship that was so fun to watch. Series 4 is my favourite 😍
I mean, I agree with you. But from a standpoint of trying to get someone NEW into DW, I wouldn't start with any of the Doctors before 9. And it's purely from production value and the way things were made back then. Today it would be exceedingly difficult to convince someone to start with the First Doctor and keep them keen until Capaldi, do you feel me? And to me, because that's how I got into DW and why I wrote my comment as I did, Tennant's Doctor was a perfect starter to launch my DW adventure. :)
The 11th hour was my first episode ever of Doctor Who, so needless to say, Matt's my doctor. That relationship he develops with Amy and also Rory, as much as I like the other doctors, nobody can replicate that first season.
Roomba Boi the BBC have jumped on the trend bandwagon of gender changing characters. it's the latest "fashion" to turn male characters in to women because of ...yawn... every one is doing it from comics to TV series to movies. it all comes across a bit cheesy and man bashing to me, but hey who cares. I have always had many problems with Dr Who for a long time, and this is yet another problem with this BBC Series. if this Doctor isn't the original Doctor Who, then she should be called something else! like Doctor Diversity or something? isn't it a bit odd to come from a planet where everyone is call Dr Who? or the Doctor? why? the BBC haven't worked that out yet. (or have they and are waiting for some one like me to ask that question), I expect the answer will be a lame one. the BBC have never been good at making sci fi.

Nah. The writing has definitely been a roller-coaster of quality, with highs and lows, since Chibnall took over, but this latest season has had some really killer episodes.
I don't know if any of the people watching this will see it, but the funny thing about regeneration Even If She Falls to her quote-unquote death, the residual regeneration energy will keep this version alive and force the previous version out faster.
David Blyth I agree. The writers had trouble getting his character up and running in series 8, and in series 10 Bill Potts simply couldn't match the charisma of Clara Oswald.
as a huge Who nerd, "Blink" is considered one of the best episodes to introduce people with, since it is a complete one off episode that doesn't require any prior knowledge to enjoy.
Maybe so but asking people to watch egg boxes, loo rolls and tin foil for special effects is a bit of a big ask for an introduction to something in this day and age.

I said that stuff with terrible production values (not to mention the pacing etc.) is not a good way to introduce a show like this to a contemporary audience - I did not say that one was better than the other. FWIW my first Doctor was Tom Baker as well.
Nicole made me SO HAPPY with that choice. Capaldi was SUCH a great Doctor, but he got so much backlash from not being young and not being Tennant or Smith. Jodie Whittaker is going to be brilliant, too. The haters need to calm down.
IMO, Capaldi's first year wasn't written as well as it should have been. He didn't have that joyful sense of wonder and play that, paired with the tormented loneliness and loss, is so uniquely The Doctor (at least from the relaunch -- I'm not very familiar with the original). However, when he opened that second season playing the electric guitar and riding in on a tank wearing sunglasses at night, I was hopeful that all would be well once again.
Blink! was actually the very first Doctor Who episode I watched and after that I was hooked! It is for sure one of the best way to into people to the series.

As for the female who, as an 'outsider', thought it funny how people complaining that a show that they have dearly loved for decades and hold close to their hearts has been ruined for them, she, as a *first-time* observer of the show, obviously hasn't made a connection to the show like millions already have. I would love to know what her passion is and what change she would totally dislike about her favourite thing in entertainment.

Agreed that the list is out of date _and_ that Heaven Sent deserves to be in the top three somewhere but as of today it is still the current DWM Poll until they do an updated one (which is long overdue). Never the less, the point still stands that many of the Classics (or past dr who's, eh jj) never seem to fluctuate that much within the top 30 and that more often than not, New Series' 'flavours of the month' seem to cloud people's voting, meaning that these days, Day of the Doctor would probably no longer be top spot.

There's so much lore you're missing out on. Torchwood references Doctor Who so much. (Well, not as much as I'd like, but enough.) And Jack shows up on Doctor Who all the time.
I dunno... Since it's not focused on the Doctor and his Companion(s), you don't miss out by not having the full backstory (starting with the relaunch). It may not be much of an introduction to The Doctor, but it could be a great hook into Doctor Who.
Blink isn't really like traditional doctor who episodes, yes the story is easy to follow but if your watching it for the first time you will probably think that is what doctor who is like, but it's not, only some rare episodes are like blink, the doctor is barely even in it. And I don't think you need the full backstory really to watch other dr who episodes, I started with school reunion and although I missed a couple of things at the time like the significance of Sarah Janes return I still enjoyed and loved the episode. Hence why I continued with doctor who.

Worth waiting for! You couldn't have actually shown them all of those individual episodes, it would have taken all day. It would b fun to see the collection of what-all the TRYers got to see. And boy howdy if you think Chris Eccleston's episodes had cheap FX, please have another vid of them watching Doctors 1 - 8! Strong writing and performance can cover a multitude of sins, and after awhile you become nostalgic for that one disused quarry that everything was filmed in if off-planet.
Yeah, I went to that Fathom Events showing of Genesis of the Daleks and when Sarah Jane pressed herself against a "brick" wall and it fucking _bounced,_ I laughed my ass off. I was the only one in the theater who found it amusing, however. Oh well.

I can see that. Trying to pick what to show the contributors, out of a show that ran for 26 years. Never mind what a different era and budget it is, just the workload merits a separate effort.
That doesn't mean that it isn't for others; it seems to be a remarkably accessible show.
Tom Baker was the best known Dr Who incarnation in the U.S. for decades. But every one of the actors who have portrayed the Doctor brought such a unique perspective, they're all memorable. Have not seen number 13 yet. We're sort of backwards as Whovians here. :-)

Tennant's Doctor is definitely worth watching. It's not that The Ninth Doctor wasn't good, but with Ten that's where the story and the connection to the characters really set in. Besides, Donna and the Doctor were possibly the best Doctor Companion combo yet.

I often feel people who didn't like Donna, wanted that "Companion in love" storyline. But for me that's why Donna worked so well. She demanded respect, reacted accordingly to a lot of the BS happening around her, and she was there to be a /friend/ to the Doctor in a time where he desperately needed one. Love Donna. :)
Lysana McMillan everytime I see someone saying they didn't like Donna they say it's because she was too shouty and that's all she did. They don't bother to look closely at a character and see why they act the way they do, they just judge them on face value. Donna shouted a lot because her voice, opionions and self esteem were always being squashed, mostly by her mum's emotional abuse. The only thing she could do was shout as loud as she could until someone took her seriously and saw her for who she was and how amazing she could be. Wilf - "you're not gonna make the world any better by shouting at it." Donna - "I can try."
I adore Donna - she is, and will always be my favourite companion. And her and the tenth Doctor had a beautiful friendship that was so fun to watch. Series 4 is my favourite 😍

I mean, I agree with you. But from a standpoint of trying to get someone NEW into DW, I wouldn't start with any of the Doctors before 9. And it's purely from production value and the way things were made back then. Today it would be exceedingly difficult to convince someone to start with the First Doctor and keep them keen until Capaldi, do you feel me?
And to me, because that's how I got into DW and why I wrote my comment as I did, Tennant's Doctor was a perfect starter to launch my DW adventure. :)

I have always had many problems with Dr Who for a long time, and this is yet another problem with this BBC Series. if this Doctor isn't the original Doctor Who, then she should be called something else! like Doctor Diversity or something? isn't it a bit odd to come from a planet where everyone is call Dr Who? or the Doctor? why? the BBC haven't worked that out yet. (or have they and are waiting for some one like me to ask that question), I expect the answer will be a lame one. the BBC have never been good at making sci fi.

Nah. The writing has definitely been a roller-coaster of quality, with highs and lows, since Chibnall took over, but this latest season has had some really killer episodes.

He's amazing. A couple of stinker stories but no Doctor's run has ever been perfect.
Capaldi's very good in his run on the show, and his iteration of the Doctor gets a proper arc of character development over the three seasons.
I wasn't a fan of his beginning, but as soon as they added back his sense of play and wonder, I was happy.
David Blyth I agree. The writers had trouble getting his character up and running in series 8, and in series 10 Bill Potts simply couldn't match the charisma of Clara Oswald.
It definitely gets better in series 10.

as a huge Who nerd, "Blink" is considered one of the best episodes to introduce people with, since it is a complete one off episode that doesn't require any prior knowledge to enjoy.
Tom Baker is the Doctor Who that I grew up with. All y'all are missing more than half of the reality of he show.
Maybe so but asking people to watch egg boxes, loo rolls and tin foil for special effects is a bit of a big ask for an introduction to something in this day and age.

IMO, Capaldi's first year wasn't written as well as it should have been. He didn't have that joyful sense of wonder and play that, paired with the tormented loneliness and loss, is so uniquely The Doctor (at least from the relaunch -- I'm not very familiar with the original). However, when he opened that second season playing the electric guitar and riding in on a tank wearing sunglasses at night, I was hopeful that all would be well once again.

As for the female who, as an 'outsider', thought it funny how people complaining that a show that they have dearly loved for decades and hold close to their hearts has been ruined for them, she, as a *first-time* observer of the show, obviously hasn't made a connection to the show like millions already have. I would love to know what her passion is and what change she would totally dislike about her favourite thing in entertainment.
The issue is in the very fact that these people think that a fictional shape-shifting alien looking female inherently "ruins" the show.
The Doctor is not a 'shape-shifting alien', he has always remained humanoid. Maya from Space:1999 and Odo from DS9 were shape-shifters.

Agreed that the list is out of date _and_ that Heaven Sent deserves to be in the top three somewhere but as of today it is still the current DWM Poll until they do an updated one (which is long overdue).
Never the less, the point still stands that many of the Classics (or past dr who's, eh jj) never seem to fluctuate that much within the top 30 and that more often than not, New Series' 'flavours of the month' seem to cloud people's voting, meaning that these days, Day of the Doctor would probably no longer be top spot.

Blink is a great episode but a terrible episode to start with, the doctor is barely in it.
I dunno... Since it's not focused on the Doctor and his Companion(s), you don't miss out by not having the full backstory (starting with the relaunch). It may not be much of an introduction to The Doctor, but it could be a great hook into Doctor Who.
Blink isn't really like traditional doctor who episodes, yes the story is easy to follow but if your watching it for the first time you will probably think that is what doctor who is like, but it's not, only some rare episodes are like blink, the doctor is barely even in it. And I don't think you need the full backstory really to watch other dr who episodes, I started with school reunion and although I missed a couple of things at the time like the significance of Sarah Janes return I still enjoyed and loved the episode. Hence why I continued with doctor who.
