***** I like CeCe. I wasn´t degrading either on with the comment I made. I have seen voice comparisons against Whitney plenty of times, however people have never actually done a comparison of a voice that´s actually worthy of comparing to Whitney. The only one I feel that´s worthy is CeCe. I guess that´s what I was trying to mention.
Whitney had more of a piercing sound, Cece's tone is obviously darker than Whitney's, but yes...they had a lot of moments where they sounded very similar
I love Nippy's deep notes.That E3 is so wonderful. 9:48 Youuuuu - Nippy's dynamics are top-notch. 10:06 Staccatissimo.Yes,mastery of the trickiest articulations. 10:29 Nippy's agility.
They have very simular voices. Cece def has a heavier voice than Whitney which makes Whitneys voice sound more pleasant to hear on the high notes. Both of them are amazing artists.
Def enjoyed this video. It really shows how similar their vocal stylings are but also showed their differences as well. Many of today's "SO CALLED" singer's should take a lot of notes from CeCe & Whitney's music libraries.
Love these two!!! Whitney could obviously do more with her voice in terms of dynamics, inflections and vocal color. Cece was much more consistent throughout her entire career though and I personally love her tone to bits (of course thats just subjective and has no connection with her ability.)
I have always thought that they both have had a voice gifted by God. Both of them show so much dramatic song and heart in their music. Such passion. However, I think I would never compare them tho. God created them unique with their own personalities for such a time as this. :-)
I've always thought that there was never room for CeCe to "Really" crossover because vocally her & Whitney were too similar. But she ruled her lane in Gospel.
The creator of this video did an excellent job with picking all the right songs to showcase their vocal similarity. This was crazy..they sound sooo similar, and they actually KNEW this. They laughed about it..they were good friends! 🙂 2 great voices, indeed!
very similar and great in their own lane. But Whitney confused in serval interviews that she love singing with CeCe because she learn so much from her. When BeBe and CeCe first signed to become artist it was rumored to Whitney that they found an contemporary gospel artist that sounded like her and when they meet the rest was history. I love them both because they never competed they knew what they had and till this CeCe vocie has mature and she's the Whitney of Gospel!
So glad they got to know each other personally and work together musically. They were close and had so much in common, gospel roots, church, humble beginnings and both very family oriented. It's too bad they didn't do more together aside from Hold Up The Light and Count On Me. They were like vocal twins. CeCe Winans would be a great fit if they ever decide to do a Whitney story or movie. Thanks for posting this, hope CeCe sees it.
I love both of these two Icons. I've always thought Whitney and CeCe voices were very similar. The beauty, and power of both of their voices really comes out when they sing Gospel Music. CeCe was definitely the sister Whitney never had. They both loved God so deeply. They shared vocal similarities as differences. When these two beautiful Queens got together heaven was definitely happy. They always had church. This video is so beautiful, thanks for sharing it!! 🎵🙌🏽❤👸🏽🎙🙏🏽😇🎙👸🏽🙌🏽🎵❤
Thank you @Angelfully!!! I've been waiting for some one to make a vid with these two dynamic divas. Still hard to believe that Whitney's gone though... RIP Nippy
Whitney will always be the BEST to me, as she is my ALL time icon! : ) But Cece I love alot to!! : ) Godbless them both, anyway how can we compare anyone against anyone as they have different styles and notes that they can reach, and are also great friends!
Why are we comparing two best friends, who were personally called by jesus to spread love and unity. Cece is the only artist who gave whitney a run for her money and whitney enjoyed it, which is why they gravitated to one another. Such a joy to see them perform together throughout the early years.
If you think that CeCe can't get high, listen to artist Phil Perry's song "God Gift to the world featuring CeCe Winans. Now, that song should be added to this video.
Sisters in song. I think that is what brought them together. And friends to the end. I only knew about Bebe and Cece because of Whitney. Now that Whitney is gone...I root for Cece. She is the best live vocalist today. My opinion.
Personally, before I heard this video, I KNEW people would pick Whitney to win (and I have my own reasons for that and it's not just because peeps say she had the better voice). Of course I think the better song helped in how many people pick whitney or cece. Whitney had the better more popular songs (not really fair to say because she sang secular music).
Very similar styles and timbres. Cece's voice was naturally darker and earthy, Whitney's was brighter and piercing. Over the years, Whitney's voice changed drastically, but she was always a showstopper because she could use it to the nth degree. Cece's voice was better cared for, but she often held back. I guess the biggest difference would be guts. Whitney had incredible guts...undeniable nerve to do what she did. Bold, brazen, confident.
RamajX thank you! Yes! Exactly! Cece also seems to have a back-head vocal placement whereas Whitney tended to aim her notes at the front and sort of blast them out (as you said, she had a lighter "frontal" sound). This is especially evident in 'Hold up the light'.
Well said. Totally agree. Whitney's confidence and consistency was unmatched. I've seen Cece blow me away at times, then other times not so much. I too always felt she held back at times, but their voices are quite similar. Love them both.
***** When I talk about "dark" vs. "bright", I'm talking about placement. Whitney brought her sound forward into her mask (sinus and nasal resonators), while Cece used her mouth resonator which made her sound more contained. Also, Cece always carried her chest voice high into a belt. Young Whitney would mix her "belt", while older Whitney would carry chest high. On "Hold Up the Light" (1988) they sound similar, but Whitney obviously pierces through. On "Count on Me" (1995), they sound almost identical on the mid-range notes, but Whitney's pure high notes sit nicely on top of Cece's rich low notes. In 1998, Cece still sounded basically the same as she always had. Whitney sounded like a different person as her voice got huskier, deeper, and darker-- but she still pushed the sound through her mask. She lost her ability to mix high, so she started using her full chest voice to belt high notes. Compare "All the Man I Need" (1990) to "Until You Come Back to Me" (1998).
Haha I know my sh**. When people first learn to sing in their mask, they tend to sound more nasal because your nose is the most obvious bright resonator & is the easiest to access. It makes a younger more kid-like sound. The full mask includes all of your sinus cavities (look up a picture). It's the pockets beside your nose & under your eyes, the upper bridge of your nose between your eyes, and the central areas of your forehead just above the eyebrows. That creates a more grown up bright sound. So, nose = nasal, forehead & cheeks = sinus. Your skull (head) resonator gives the voice that soaring quality. Mariah has always used her nasal resonator a lot (maybe it's a Long Island thing?). In her younger days, she naturally had a lot of sinus and skull resonance. That's what gave her voice that rich yet light warm sound. She always mixed her belt and relied heavily on her skull to carry the sound rather than her breath support -- which is why her vibrato was never really as present as Whitney's. Whitney was all about pushing that breath out through the mask. By the time she did the Rainbow album, she lost most of that natural resonance. Ever since, her voice has sounded thinner, more throaty, and more nasally. Her whistle notes are much thinner and weaker nowadays. She lost the richness & quality, other than that her tone and timbre are essentially the same. Adele is a great example of someone who transitions from mouth to mask very smoothly. Listen to "Hello" and "Daydreamer".
On mid belts, they sound so alike, LITERALLY ALIKE. Then when it came to the upper belts, you can hear a slight difference. Cece's voice weighs more than Whitney, so that's why Whitney's voice has more ease, belting up there. On head voice though, Whitney's sounds fuller and round while Cece's sounds light and fluffy.
Wow...it Soo depends upon who really likes a song....yet they both are beautifully gifted....god gave the finale tho...so who is the winner here..I say both but God knows the real....there is no competition here. they both win..yet they traveled two different paths...

+The90sAreTheBest lmao.. ^^LIES.. "As a matter of fact, at the 1997 Grammys, CeCe blew Whitney and everyone else on the stage away." Fallacious statement. Facts: whitney was sick that night.. CeCe convinced her to go out and sing that night.. Whitney also invited Brandy, Chaka Khan, And Aretha Franklin and Mary J Blige to join her on stage that night. And besides, if you counting that moment as Whitney being outsang by CeCe, just put it up against all the rest of the performances where Whit OUTSANG CeCe.. CeCe is good, she aint no Whitney Tho! Bye
In some moments they are similars . But Whitney's voice is far the best and besides Whitney has much more control and her techinic and dark tone are incomparable . She has more ability and does anything like an instrument , cece is a great singer as well but Whitney is a masterpice , is the voice ! Rip Whitney 😍😍😍
When Whitney's voice was not damaged, I'd pick her, BUT being that she DID damaged her voice... I might just give it to CeCe just for that simple fact.
In all honesty, CeCe was really the only one that could touch Whitney. She was really her only rival.

Bye
+D. Addison You're such a Whitney fanboy. Lol
***** Okay?! That's what I'm saying...
Cece is great too!
You may like Whitney's voice better, but she's not factually better at all.
When Whitney's voice was not damaged, I'd pick her, BUT being that she DID damaged her voice... I might just give it to CeCe just for that simple fact.
