The museum house was my grandmothers house, so I know a lot about it... The picture shown at the 18 minute mark is of Daren McGavin and my first cousin, Jimmy. He was the guy who delivered the leg lamp and all you saw of him ironically was his legs. They used to go drinking after the shoot together. Up until my cousins death he was a docent at the museum hawking DVD's. He sadly passed away a year or two ago. He lived in a ramshackle house (his parents) all his life down the street on west 11th.
I can't recommend this experience enough... if you love this movie, and watch it all day on TBS on Christmas Day, then the overload of things for you to see, and for what you get for your ticket admission, it's a real value! Give yourself an hour to make it through the house, backyard, museum, the vehicles, and the gift shop.. just don't shoot your eye out!
Does the gift shop sell zeppelin's? One of my favorite scenes in the movie is when Randy is sleeping with his zeppelin. I'd like to buy one for my grandson.
This is my all time favorite movie. I watch it literally all day on Christmas. I even have my whole living room decorated with Christmas story decor Thanks for doing this vlog!!
My brother saw this movie first and he was so excited. "IT'S JUST LIKE US!!!" We were both born in the early fifties and it did bring back a lot of memories. It is also a reminder of how much simpler it was in those days. To bad they are gone.
Did you also know that Jean Shepherd, the narrator of A Christmas Story, actually played a small bit part in the movie? He was in Higbee's store when Randy and Ralphie went to see Santa. When they line up, Shepherd's character says, "Hey kid, where do you think you're going?" Ralphie says, "To see Santa!" He replies "The line starts back there." AND, did you also know that Jean Shepherd is the voice of the father at Walt Disney World's Carousel of Progress attraction in the Magic Kingdom? Betcha didn't know that!!
Fun fact: The owner of the museum bought the Christmas Story house on ebay(!) when it was listed in December of 2004. He spent the next couple of years completely gutting the interior and remodeling it to match the interior shots from the studio sets. As Hollywood often 'cheats' on the geometry between interior and exterior shots (the Brady Bunch house. hello!) the layout is not exact to the film's, but what they've created there is still quite an achievement. Great job as always, Jordan! Merry Christmas!
someboy5809, in order to do that, the homeowner would have to relinquish their home. In the case of the Christmas Story House, the owners years ago had put it up for sale on eBay, so they wanted to unload it. Also, this house is on a street in a part of Cleveland that was somewhat run down and 'lower rent' and the establishment of the attraction and museum here brought money into the neighborhood and increased property values, etc; But the house used for Home Alone was and is in an expensive and high class neighborhood that I suspect the other property owners around it would hate to have overrun with tourists every day of the year.
I was 17 when me and my best friend watched this in Philadelphia in one of the old movie theaters, that is long gone. From the first time I watched the trailer I knew I had to see it. I wasn't disappointed. I doubt I'll ever get to see the house., but your visit was just as exciting for me to watch. Thanks for inviting us!
Any movie that inspires preserving the house, a museum with the props and countless souvenirs in a huge gift shop, and that has become a Christmas tradition for millions, decades after a low budget film was made, well, I'd call that one helluva movie!!! And, of course, Jean Shepherd was a great American writer!
Thanks for taking us through memory lane. It was a very nostalgic experience. Jordan, you’re the best! 👍❤️🙏🏻🐕🦺Jah looked so tiny in this vlog. So cute and content❣️
I told my wife I wanted to get the schematic and plans of the house and rebuild it for her - it literally is her dream house and she wanted to decorate it with similar antiques from the time period of the 40s :}
The art director (not sure if he's alive) or the Art Directors' Guild in LA might be able to suggest where to look to find the floor plan views, and possibly some of the set design blueprints for portions of the interiors that had to be specially made. The actual house interior seen in this video is way off what is in the film. The film's house interior is made up for what was needed for the story and only very roughly compares to the house in this video (tho most of the outside of the house is still reasonably close to the way it was in the film.
Thanks so much for the tour my family and I are in Germany and many people here have no idea what the fuss is all about but I bought the dvd and we watch it on Christmas Day also before We watched clips on TH-cam just to get all excited about the experience.
Wow! I had no idea this existed; being able to tour the house, along with a museum and gift shop! Thank you for sharing your experience. ☺ A Christmas Story is one of my favorite movies! ❤
I love how Jordan is laughing throughout this vlog. You can tell how much he enjoyed it and was excited about it. Never seen this movie, will now thanks to Jordan.
This is my all time favorite Christmas movie. I think because I love the time period it's set in. I sometimes wonder if I lived in the 30's/40's in another life. lol I have so much of the merch, but there is so much more I want!!!
My son Jeremy and I was at the house a few years ago. My oldest children that are 44,45, and 46, soon to be 47 in January, 46 in February, and 45 in July watched this movie with me ,,(their mom) and their dad. Now my daughter,44, her children 19,12, and 10 get together on Christmas Eve to have hot chocolate and watch this movie. It has been a family tradition now for several years. How awesome is that.😁 Thank you for showing this.😀 God Bless and Happy New Year🥳
I didn't mention this in my comment a few minutes ago, but I am with my daughter Jennifer, my 19 year old grandson Jason, my 12 year old grandson CJ, and my 10 year old granddaughter Tennley.😃. We all sit in the family room to enjoy " A Christmas Story.". I don't know how many years that we'll keep this up as a tradition but I hope it will be forever.😁
Jordan, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! I was born on Christmas day and for some weird reason this is my FAVORITE Christmas movie! I am a (now) 55 year young woman, and this is at the TOP of my bucket list! You made my day, my birthday, my Christmas! I have just discovered your channel recently and have been binge watching your videos making sure to hit the like button. I LOVE your old Hollywood movie information. No one else does that and I have been searching for someone who did. Found you through Adam the Woo. So glad I did. Keep up the excellent work and thanks for making me so happy! A Christmas Story....Best vlog ever!💖 Lisa from Bama
I recommend that bar across the street the food was excellent and the menu has a christmas story themed food and drink I had a white Russian with oveltine and was the best one I ever had 😃
I love how they even put all the cords plugged in to one single outlet just like the movie!! I really enjoy your channel-Such amazing places you visit. Thank you for sharing all your travels. Happy Holidays
I remember this being filmed in January of 1983 in Cleveland. I was going to Cleveland State and I remember Public Square (the opening scene) was completely shut down and turned into the late 1930's. The modern RTA bus shelters were covered with trolley trains and old cars were everywhere. Great tour of the house.
I always crack up when the mom calls Ralph's friend's house and asks his mom, where does she think Ralphy hears the bad word from, and the lady says, "His father! Deep down inside Ralphy's mom knows that's exactly where he learned it from, because her hubby cusses like a sailor/trucker. 😂
Excellent, enjoyed so oooo much. Putting it as a stop on our travels. We turn this movie on Christmas eve and it stays on for the next 24 hrs at least.
My dad took us kids to see this movie when it came out. I was bored to death. I was also a teenager who didn’t appreciate things. Decodes later I am in love with this movie. Every year its on the must watch list. I now understand why my dad was so gung-ho about the film. It was his childhood, except he was a lot more poor and grew up in North Carolina but it definitely was a reminder of some of his childhood. My folks been married 56 years and it is still watched.
Jordan, I grew up in Cleveland and at age 11 I was able to watch some of the downtown scenes being filmed while standing inside the front doors of Terminal Tower. For those who don't know it's the large Building that's panned down on just before the parade scene.
You forgot to mention Higbee's. I grew up in Sandusky. The Twigbee shop was a must stop when we went Christmas shopping. We shopped a lot in Cleveland, Toledo (I had relatives that lived there) and Midway Mall. Higbee's was always my favorite though.
@@beccawildel8845 exactly! All of those neat window displays shown in the movie, were the actual Higbee window displays that were in the windows EVERY YEAR for years! I remember them well. Do you remember those narrow, wooden escalators?😁
As a kid in Cleveland in the Fifties, every year we went Christmas shopping downtown at Higbees and Halles and went to see Santa (and Mr Jingaling) at Halles. Never got kicked in the face by him!
Those old wringer washers may not look like much too many people but my mom used one i and i did too and i always got the best clean with it i would love to have another i enjoyed having one and enjoyed using it this is so great to see jordan thank you so muchyour awsome the best at what you do keep up the great work thumbs up really 👏
I love rewatching this one!!! Even if it wasn’t filmed inside the house, the whole experience of seeing the house and props and everything else make it quite impressive! Thanks Jordan for sharing this with us!!
What a great surprise! I loved every minute of A Christmas Story vlog from the exteriors to the recreated inside of the house. The props and souvenir shop were fantastic! Jordan, many thanks from us fans of this movie treasure. 🦁🎄🦁
Hi Jordan and Jah! I loved this video! You have shown me so many things that I like and everyone can relate to! "A Christmas Story" is one of my all-time favorites to watch any time of the year! Thank you for letting me in on so many facts about this movie. God Bless you and Jah and may He always protect you two guys in your travels! Give Jah a kiss for me-just love that little guy!
What a great vlog of a great movie. One of our traditions to watch every year. Really enjoyed that one. Cool how all the props are there, Great job Jordan! Thank you sir!
Your sweetness at times like this always puts a tear in my eye. You deserve this success, because you work so hard, pretty much 24/7 and you are just the nicest guy anyone could ever want to know. I wish you and your family an absolutely wonderful 2019.
GREAT VLOG!!!!! Darren McGavin also did The Night Stalker (and The Night Strangler) tv movie (which I loved) as reporter Carl Kolchack, which was later The Night Stalker tv series!!!!!!
I used to watch the Night Stalker series when I was a kid in Philly. Back when the Six Million Dollar Man, Streets of San Francisco, Starsky & Hutch, The Jeffersons, Baretta, Charlie's Angels, Fantasy Island, Love Boat, Carol Burnett show, etc were on.
We toured the house last year and had so much fun. Love the freedom of touring it on your own. We met the delivery man who delivered the leg lamp in the movie, he told us some wonderful stories. If you love the movie, try to visit the house, well worth it
It was actually in the city of Hammond, Indiana. The original house is still there. They used the name Hohman, Indiana is actually the street where the department store was. It was Goldblatts. I’m from Hammond so was Jean Shepherd. Hammond is only 25 minutes from Chicago.
I was waiting for someone to mention Jean Shepherd. I don't think 99% of fans of the movie know Shep was The Mark Twain of our times. I listened to him on WOR in New York and have an autographed copy of "In God We Trust, Al Others Pay Cash." WBAI also used to replay his old radio shows.
My sons and I visited this house about 9 years ago. We reenacted so many scenes. We met Randy and the girl elf from the mall and got their autograph pictures. A lot of people don't know the house was sold and the windows and siding were all updated at one time. Whoever purchased it for touring had to make it all original again.
The boy that played Ralphie was also in an episode of Little House on the Prairie in 1982. He played a boy named Gideon Hale & the episode is called No Beast So Fierce.
We watch "A Christmas Story" at least 3 times on Christmas day. I'm so glad TBS has kept the 24 hour broadcast for so many years. We also have it on DVD, and it's fun to watch it in the middle of the summer when it's so hot out (we live in AZ). We also have a string of 10 mini leg lamp Christmas lights we put in the front window every year. I forgot where we got them, but when I saw them I had to get them. I would love to visit the museum one day---in the summer though, and get a t-shirt. (Jan Griffiths).
We were there earlier this year and the tour guide told us that there were some interior shots filmed inside the house. She basically said any shot where you see an exterior window was filmed in the house and everything else was on a sound stage. Take it for what it's worth. Also, as you walk around the house (especially in the kitchen and upstairs), you quickly realize the layout of the house is very different from the movie. Side note: The furnace damper is on the kitchen wall behind the table (by the entry door). It didn't move when we tried it. It was still an awesome experience. If you go, be sure to lift and listen to the phone at the top of the steps.
Darren McGavin was also in the baseball movie called The Natural with Robert Redford where he played a "bad guy." And does anyone remember Peter Billingsley as Messy Marvin in those chocolate milk commercials? LOL
SirParcifal: mine was too....lol. We had an old coal furnace & remember seeing tiny black flecks in the air. Also my dad had a copper still in the basement to make moonshine (1950's). Ha ha......he got away with it!! Only forhis own pleasure & for company to enjoy. Oh ya good ol days.
Great in depth video! Love that movie! A friend of mine went earlier this year, and you can actually sit under the sink where Randy was hiding. Thanks for posting this.
That was great Jordan! I'm going to watch it again! Love those old houses. I grew up in a post WWII Home in AZ but would spend my summers in my G-aunts home in kansas-- they sent me tack there so my brother and I wouldn't kill one another! Thanks Jordan!
We were there a few years ago and alot less people. It was a blast and worth the trip. Also a must see is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year !!
I went this year finally. What a FUN TIME......now its up for sale so I am glad I went just in case it isnt around in a few years. Loved the musuem, the house itself and the tour and SHOP
Of all the movies I have seen in my life time, I have see The Christmas Story more than any other movie. At least ten or more times. Look forward to it every year.
I love this old movie. I watch it a couple of times during the Christmas holiday. Dont know how anyone could watch it each time its on!. But the iconic scenes are always entertaining no matter how often you see them. Its also evocative of an era in America that was special and most of us boomers can recall that time period which stretched well into the 50's
This is the most perfect tour of the house and gift shop. My brother and I love this movie so much that now that we are states apart, we watch it while on the phone and keep laughing over the same scenes. thanks Jordan
Thanks so much for doing this video. Really well done. I live in Akron, just south of Cleveland, and have been meaning to get up there to tour the house. The person that bought the house did a fabulous job renovating it, and adding the gift shop and the museum across the street. Thanks again for taking us on a tour of the house. Very cool!
Love this place! Went there myself about 4 years ago. Had to buy a leg lamp after that visit! Not sure if you made it to downtown Cleveland, but you can see the Higbee's location at the town square, which is where the department store Santa scenes were filmed.
Loved it! You take us on the most entertaing, informative trips! I lived meeting your family through your vlogs, and loved seeing Jah as always. As always looking forward to your next vlog. Cheers!
The scene where the lamp is delivered was filmed inside the house in Cleveland. You can tell by the box with the "F" missing in Fragile and the "T" on This End Up. They had to cut the box so it would go in the door. At least that is what the guide told us when I visited a couple years ago.
I loved this movie and watch it probably 12 times during the Christmas season, not counting Christmas day, so you do the math. This movie was so great because as children we all can relate to Ralphie. I have to get here one day. You can spend the night too. Darren McGavin and Melissa Dillon did a great job too. RIP Darren, thanks for the memories........"FRAGILEE....it must be Italian. " ;) Great movie! LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Omg I Love this Movie, so cool to see inside what it actually looked like in the movie! Awesome vlog, my favourite was the Leg Lamp, I might have to buy one now that I see they sell them in different sizes! This vlog is definitely in my top 10 from you! Thank you for going there ❤️
I normally don't have the patience for a video of more than five minutes, but this was the exception. Alot of fun to watch. Now I'll be adding Cleveland to my bucket list. Thanks for this!
Visitors should know that you should pick up the phone in the upstairs landing and you'll hear Schwartz getting a whipping!🤣
i wet to the house

As a father of two boys, they are grown up now, that joke gets lots of mileage in my house. "Probably his father" when referencing the f--- word!
And mom yelling lol
That town should have a giant water tower shaped like a leg lamp.

@ClearlyCaribbeanReb That's why the football team is called The Browns. ;)

It is peter billingsley's birthday.
I grew up 5 blocks from this house. Its cute you call it tremont. For us who grew up down there we known it and still call it the Southside.
Does the gift shop sell zeppelin's? One of my favorite scenes in the movie is when Randy is sleeping with his zeppelin. I'd like to buy one for my grandson.
You are great bro.... What an opportunity to go to all these great places , I love to reminisce ....I wish for you continued success
My wife and I have been twice. We were lucky enough to meet a few cast members too, including Randy!

Did they say why?
@@nhmooytis7058 no they didn't. That house makes one hand over fist and no one lives in it.
@@shesheshe9389 hope it stays a museum.
I think you can still order those shows on dvd....
Love Night Stalker.
If you love the movie, try to visit the house, well worth it
I grew up 5 blocks from here. Every Christmas I go home and always make a stop at the gift shop.
Dose it annoy you having all those tourist crowds around your neighborhood?
My Xmas ugly sweater is of the leg lamp... And the quote says "Fra gee lay it must be Italian!!!'"
My favorite Christmas movie. It plays all day at my house on Christmas (tnt marathon)
Wow this is so cool! A Christmas Story is my favorite Christmas movie!!! Thanks for sharing Jordan.❤
It was actually in the city of Hammond, Indiana. The original house is still there. They used the name Hohman, Indiana is actually the street where the department store was. It was Goldblatts. I’m from Hammond so was Jean Shepherd. Hammond is only 25 minutes from Chicago.
Gods warrior Rapture which house?
I was waiting for someone to mention Jean Shepherd. I don't think 99% of fans of the movie know Shep was The Mark Twain of our times. I listened to him on WOR in New York and have an autographed copy of "In God We Trust, Al Others Pay Cash." WBAI also used to replay his old radio shows.
A Christmas Story is what Christmas means to me my family and I watch it every Christmas Eve
I want to see this movie... can u send any link this movie where i can see.
It's such a beautiful house outside of my love for the movie. It's amazing!
I loved it, had no idea there was the house and museum. All were very well done. Thanks Jordan, great vlog!
The fire truck in the movie was from the Chippewa fire Department
My sons and I visited this house about 9 years ago. We reenacted so many scenes. We met Randy and the girl elf from the mall and got their autograph pictures. A lot of people don't know the house was sold and the windows and siding were all updated at one time. Whoever purchased it for touring had to make it all original again.
My aunt was there last year. She says it was an incredible experience. It's her favorite movie.🎄
That was great! I love the movie and have always wondered about the house and museum. Keep up the good work Jordan.
They did a really great job recreating everything in the house.
The homeowner spent $500,000 to recreate the interior
The boy that played Ralphie was also in an episode of Little House on the Prairie in 1982. He played a boy named Gideon Hale & the episode is called No Beast So Fierce.
Love Melinda Dillon..must be cool to have this movie and Close Encounters of the Third Kind on your resume.
Leg lamp tree lights would be so awesome!
I love this movie! Great to see some of the movie props and interesting how they did the special effects for the tongue on the pole.
LOL
Years ago, while channel surfing, I saw Billingsley in an episode of "Little House on the Prairie."
P.S. my father was just like Ralphies dad - RIP pops!
Was he an Oldsmobile man?
Omg really 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Great in depth video! Love that movie! A friend of mine went earlier this year, and you can actually sit under the sink where Randy was hiding. Thanks for posting this.
Lol yes I did that
I Love It!!.. I Love It!!!!… Yes, We Watched It!.. Enjoyed This Vlog So Much!!!!!!.. Thank You, Jordan!!!!!
@6:42 I love how that major award Leg lamp came in a crate, that says "His End Up" on the lid.
That was great Jordan! I'm going to watch it again! Love those old houses. I grew up in a post WWII Home in AZ but would spend my summers in my G-aunts home in kansas-- they sent me tack there so my brother and I wouldn't kill one another! Thanks Jordan!
Jah is just about the neatest little dog I've ever seen. Love it that he gets to travel with you!
He's the best
We were there a few years ago and alot less people. It was a blast and worth the trip. Also a must see is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Thanks for sharing.
Happy New Year !!
We just went there on 12/22. It was so fun to see. Enjoyed the video. Thank you! 🙂
Another Christmas favorite. This is exactly what I hoped you would vlog. No one has covered more it completely that I am aware of. Thank you so much.
Very cool!
It's a great experience. I highly recommend that.. As well as Castle Noel in Medina
Thanks for the tour! My DVD player would not read my Christmas Story disk this morning. I’m pleased to have found your clip on TH-cam!
I love this movie too- Never get tired of watching it, thanks for taking me along...
A true classic.. ive always loved movies with a narrator...
Love this place! Went there myself about 4 years ago. Had to buy a leg lamp after that visit! Not sure if you made it to downtown Cleveland, but you can see the Higbee's location at the town square, which is where the department store Santa scenes were filmed.
Higbee's is now a Casino
Love this, favorite movie to watch on Christmas day, thank you so much for sharing these wonderful memories with us all
So awesome this movie is a classic!! TBS used to (idk if they still do) but they passed this move for 24 hours straight!!!!!!
I’m from Cleveland and read the Jean Shepherd book it was based on there, so I feel a special connection to A Christmas Story!
This vlog is like a bonus Christmas gift! Thanks Jordan and have a great time with your family!
He looks like a deranged Easter bunny
Thank you for going there ❤️
Too cool!! Love the movie! Thank you. Merry Christmas
That was a joy to watch. Thank you, Jordan.
I normally don't have the patience for a video of more than five minutes, but this was the exception. Alot of fun to watch. Now I'll be adding Cleveland to my bucket list. Thanks for this!
You forgot to look under the sink for Randy!
The very best Christmas movie, period.
Even better then the best ever Christmas movie called Diehard??????? lol
COOL! I loved this movie! I heard it years ago on Jean Shepherd's radio show, when I was in junior high school.
Thank you. That was awesome. My favorite Christmas movie.
