  • Australian Armour and Artillery Museum outside of Cairns, QLD, Australia hosted AusArmourFest once again, giving visitors an opportunity to see armour in operation on their track. The festival ran from 26-28 August 2022.
This footage was shot on Sunday 28-Aug-2022 and is the German Pz.Kpfw V Panther Ausf.A that was purchased by the museum after being rebuilt in the UK by Axis Track Services. Nick and Phil Rutherford who completed much of the restoration were on hand at AusArmourFest to help with the vehicle startup.
The Pz.Kpfw V Panther mounted the 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70 main gun that offered excellent anti-armour performance and also saw employment on the Jagdpanzer IV/70.
The vehicle, Sd.Kfz 171, was introduced in mid 1943 and was designated as a medium tank designed to replace the Pz.Kpfw IV, but production pressures meant that both the panzer IV and V continued to be manufactured until the end of WW2.
This Ausf.A variant was an improved model compared to the initial production Ausf.D, adding a new commanders cupola and a bow machine gun.
