The Germans share a similar sense of humour but are a lot more clever than we are. It takes an awful lot of courage to do what Henning does, can you imagine a British comedian entertaining a German audience speaking their language and successfully using their own nuances against them, without causing offence? He's a class act.

I think the only reason Henning doesn't have a British equivalent is because the German comedy scene isn't exactly huge (by his own admission), and because we natively speak the world's most widely spoken language, so we're all too lazy to learn other languages. I don't think the British would be any more likely to cause offence, nor the Germans to be offended. All nations can deal with being mocked for stereotypes, especially when they're true. Some more than others I admit. Even some Americans can live with it.
He's a single clever comedian, not an entire nation. And he doesn't "cause offence" because of the British public's good humour.
This clip ends before he finished making his argument, in which he went on to make the (i think) valid point that in germany and scandinavia they don't do charity in the same way we do. They pay more tax. Major institutions that benefit society should be funded by us all.
Just doing the bloody work (not jobs) should be enough... shouldn't have anything to do with money what-so-ever!

@@ze89412 I think you misunderstand the the Google answer to the question, “ how many charities are there in Germany?” Round about 20 to 40 thousand. The 600,000 associations which you have included are non public-fundraising ; they are associated organisations often linked and funded by associated organisations or businesses but are still deemed charities.
In the UK there are approximately 170,000 charities that take part in public fundraising from ‘Save the Children’ to schools. It’s a trick successive right of centre governments in the UK have been doing for years. Defund public services, turn them into charities and claim the credit for encouraging people to give to charity whilst giving less themselves and keeping the saving for tax cuts for the wealthy.
I love Henning, his jokes always have a different nature to most comedians and are just odd, but in a fun way. Was awesome when on HIGNFY just after Brexit.

In Britain we have remembrance Sunday to remember our war dead. Our biggest conflicts in terms of lives lost was obv against the Germans. So it's quite funny for this German comic to say 'highly selective remembrance sunday.' it's not a reference as such, he's more feigning outrage.

In a proper functioning society, fund raising and charity would be obsolete.
I think the problem is that it is, indeed, functioning exactly the way some people want it to.
The thing I absolutely detest about charity begging is that, if you give to a charity, they must sell your name, etc. to other charities. My daughter gives nothing to charity and gets no letters or calls. I give now and then and get phone calls and a mailbox full of charity requests. I get phone calls from charities to which I have never contributed, only to have the caller thanking me for my previous donations.

I think it does include the allies and Russia was an ally but Putin wasn't invited this year and could not have come anyway because there's an international arrest warrant for him.

Charities should be accountable for the way they spend. A rating out of 100 should be calculated each year which depicts the percentage of funds that actually reach the intended beneficiaries. And this rating should be a part of a central database that everybody can access and sort into any order they want to.
What country are you in? A lot of countries have charity-rating websites.

Movember is an awareness movement for Prostate Cancer and the money raised is for Cancer Charities and Research, it was started by an Australian.
If the idea of Movember comes from awareness of prostate cancer wouldn't it be more logical to stop shaving or trimming your pubes and butt hair? Surely letting your facial hair grow should be from awareness of mouth cancer.

I tell you what I don't like about certain types of Fundraising.
All their lives some people could not give a damn that endless others have sufferred and died from something or other and then suddenly because THEY are directly or indirectly affected we are asked to donate to their new found cause when they could not give a monkeys before about whatever it is...
Oh my gosh YES, I always see this. I mean yes I am sorry that whatever made you upset but you didn't care before so what makes you think others will want to donate to you?

I started a new job a few years ago and on my very first morning a bloke came round collecting for money because he had shaved his beard off. He actually asked me for money. I said "but i've never met you before! As far as i know you've never even had a beard!! To me you're just a man without a beard asking for money!" I pointed out that i didnt have a beard either so maybe he should pay me too! I offered to sponsor him to grow one, but he didnt want to.
Nobody takes "the rough with the smoove" quite like Henning.

I totally agree. I'm all for giving to charity, but the way to do it, and the way I do it, is by writing out a check and mailing it to the charity (or functionally similar transaction).
Agree about the fundraising. Moreover I think any non-profit that pays any member of staf above 100k a year is a for-profit. Those people obviously make profit by running that organisation. If you want to be a non-profit, you should not personally profit (at least not directly financially, I do not mind them gaining experience which can get them a nice job later in life).
@Cris 2 Far Charities are large enough to be desirable to run. Who wouldn;t want to be CEO of the Wikimedia Foundation or of any other major charity. For 100k enough people would do it. Screw "the best" people. You don;t need them. Let them get 250k somewhere else. But not from charity money. If you want profit, go somewhere else. If you want to have CEO of a major charity and major power on your resume, accept the pay cut for a few years.
@Cris 2 Far Right now a charity wants someone better than the competitior. If you have a law, and noone can pay more than 100k, charities don't need to compete. A single law will change everything. The law isn't there yet. So your argument of "or else that's the way it would be" is a non-argument.

If I've seen you more than once, you're pan-handling and won't get a penny. If you're a charity that doesn't parse out 85% of your contributions, you won't see a penny of my money. If you bank money for "Future Disasters" you won't get any of my money. If you're an organization that stands at a major intersection, endangering the lives of volunteers due to and the impediment of traffic, I'm just going to drive on past. Your heart and the Holy Spirit tells you whom to give to. You just have to listen and then not give a care what happens to the contribution once it has left your hands. The onus is upon them after that.

The one I really hate is people in the my office trying to raise funds for their own kids' football team and emotionally blackmailing you into contributing. I politely decline and frankly don't give a flying f*ck what they think of me because it probably isn't as bad as what I think of them.

He's talking about Remembrance Sunday, which is (I think) the Sunday closest to the 11th Nov when the UK remembers it's World War I dead. As a German, Henning Wehn has a slightly different perspective on such an event!

Highly selective because the British only remember their war dead and not those they killed, often immorally or illegally (e.g. Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan, sending Canadian troops in at Verdun etc.)

Because it only remembers the dead of one side in WW1 and WW2. I think that's what he's implying. It does not remember German dead.
