At the towers base on the west side are plaques honoring the various military forces that captured and fought over to the east side (up the mountain) against the German forces. My father at the age of 19 was was part of the 78th Infantry which was attached to the 9th Armored for a month which included that bridge action
Taking a Viking cruise on the Rhine next year and hope to see as we pass by

The bridge didn't fall down due to the Americans. The Germans set charges but they were not a good enough quality explosives to do the job and they only damaged the bridge. After the Americans crossed the Germans fired rail mount mortars, about every plane they had bombed it and even some V-2 rockets were fired at it. After being patched up and ran about a 1000 tanks and trucks over it, it fell down killing like 25 US engineers. We didn't need to rebuild it due to already have other pontoon bridges over the river by the time it fell.
I am surprised that it was not rebuilt though. The foundations were already there and they had the tunnel built through the hill on the other side.

The bridge was also target of a few V2 rockets, but those were all misses.

Loved both of your videos on Remagen. I am actually going there and staying in Remagen in June, For a very interesting video on the Bridge at Remagen you should watch Mark Felton. A wonderful historian that tells history unlike anyone else that I have read or heard

The hole in the side of the cliff on Erpeler Ley is actually part of a mine. It’s called the Kasbach Basalt Mine. The hole is not an entrance, but an exit from when they punched through to the surface. There was an entrance down towards the tree line near the bottom of the cliff, but it has been blown up.

As well as the film 'The Bridge at Remagen', the battle for the bridge is part of the plot of Jeffrey Archer's novel 'Kane and Abel' where Abel saves Kane's life, not recognising him as the man he has sworn to kill.

It was the Germans who destroyed the bridge, after the Americans had captured it. The bridge alongside was built by the Americans.

It's a major turn-off when you ask a question, then try to manipulate the viewer into going to another of your videos. Manipulation to promote yourself and your material is the wrong way to go.

    • @HenrysAdventures

@@HenrysAdventures You tease the viewer with a good question that you then lead to another of your videos just to increase the hits you receive. If that isn't manipulation, then I don't know what is. I won't fall for it.
