This process is EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING! Amazon should redesign the app and the connection process. Every time I unplug it or turn it off I have to do this ll over again. You seem to be confused by it as well and you seem much more tech-savvy than I. ;/
This thing is a piece of shit. It connecting cause it’s not allowing me be on my Alexa WiFi or and home WiFi at the same time so I have no internet trying make Alexa work. Shitty design. Whoever made this connection is a retard
I have a question, when Alexa app asked me to go to my WIFI settings and select Amazon -xxx allowed me to connect but disconnect me from my home wifi so cant`s continue without wifi, if I connect back to Home Wifi the configuration process starts all over again, so I am in a loop. Any advise??
BTW, I just attempted it a few more times and worked just fine, I think just had a wait a minute or two while the app connected the echo to the wifi, then just go back to the regular WIFI connection and both devices would have an independent wifi connection

But with the phone (iPhone X) I can connect to the Wifi of the Speaker. more than 4 hours and something I struggled and I do not shake. I feel like I'm exploding.
Can this be done a little easier , even he was hitting sh#t that he wasn't sure , I got mine working , and didn't even know until I put it down , saying F,, it,, it was off a few months then I came back and asked a Q. and it was working .
Hold Action Button for a while and then when ring will comes up then try all process all over again. Resetting Device also will help in these situation. Hope this will help. Good Luck and Good Day

im setting up via mobile and had same issues. Solution seems to be just turn off mobile data on your phone. It blew through the setup then for me.
