Your videos are one of the reasons I now own an XK8, so a genuine thanks to you. Also my fog lights don't actually work, and the buttons don't illuminate but I'll try new bulbs and maybe some switch cleaner first. Now I know how it's done!
Thank you so much for this video!!! I've had one "foggy" light since I bought this car 3 and a half years ago. I've consulted all the forums and even my local Jaguar independant specialist who all seem to think you have to remove the front bumper, or at least the splash plate under the front end to get at the lamp body. After your video it took me about 20mins and at last it is clean. Thank you, it has been driving me mad.
Mitch Grooms thanks! Yeah I’m so glad it was a quick fix to get the mist out of them, didn’t fancy buying and fitting a new unit, not much room to play with in that bumper!
Thanks buddy thought about this for the whole 11yrs ive owned my car lol now I know how!...do you know if there are yellow replacement bulbs? Thanks again Dan
That cover was tricky but managed to drop the light down and get through to clean the lens. Turns out they’re opaque anyway!😂. Cheers anyway- I know what to do for access
Hi! Nice video and very good description of the job at hand. But how is that going to fix the underlying issue of the lights fogging up in the first place? This seems to be more a remedy for the symptom by cleaning, than an actual fix. Wouldn't you agree?
Great vid but sadly trying to move the tangs far enough to allow the unit to drop ...... just too difficult. I could see that the tangs were moving a couple of mm but it seems as if the unit is suck fast. Any thoughts.
Hmmm I’m trying to remember now as it was a while ago, I think those tabs only move a couple of mm so I think you press them out to the side then pull that side of the unit back just past the tab so it doesn’t click shut ie one side held in by tab and the other now just stopping it returning, then you do the other side which frees the unit to swing down. Failing that you might have to get the wheel off and the wheel arch liner out to get more room/hands on it
Andy Kirwan yeah I did put that in the description as I omitted to say it in the video, I don’t think the same steps can be done on the pre-facelift XK8/R

Mark Smith excellent! Glad it helped someone 👍🤣, thanks for watching too!
Thank you, Mark. I will be doing this job in a couple of days
Perfect.......glad to know! Exactly why I came here.
Great video, amazing how different they are from mine, I did a foglight change out on my 98 Jaguar XjR 4 months ago on my channel

@@granblogismo I removed my entire units, plus I did not have the under panels to remove, the video is in my vids.
Mitch Grooms The XJ should have a black panel (under tray) between the bottom of the bumper and engine. It protects the rads
@@AndyK.1 correct, I have not put one back yet..

A very helpful video. Thank you!

Cool video and design. If water develops drill a hole in the bottom to keep light vented.
Andy Kirwan thanks! Yeah I heard about the hole drilling for headlights but I guess fogs would work too 👍

Nice Video as always
To The Garage thanks! Loving your videos and your new car by the way, looks like a good one 👍
@@granblogismo Thanks very much. Im really enjoying it. I wish my Mk1 Fog lamps were as easy to clean.
Worth mentioning this is the later design. Bet you can’t do that on the early version.
Andy Kirwan yeah I did put that in the description as I omitted to say it in the video, I don’t think the same steps can be done on the pre-facelift XK8/R
granblogismo I should try reading the descriptions one day 😂
Andy Kirwan haha, I never do either, it’s normally full of links to stuff I don’t want or to some ill-conceived merchandise 🤣
I think I would use sprayon grease on all those self tapping screws...keeps corrosion at bay...
lipsee100 good idea!
Much better without the mugflags
