In Depth : Meghalayan Age

Meghalaya, which means the land of clouds is also known to the world as one of the wettest places on Earth.
But now, it has a new claim to fame ... The state has a big role in determining the age we are living in - all thanks to a stalagmite found in the Mawmluh cave in the northeastern state. In today's In Depth, we take up in detail what the Meghalayan Age is, how did scientists classify the Holocene Epoch and what is the basis on which these classifications are done.

Meghalayan Age (4.2kilo year event)
In the Geological Time Scale the Meghalayan age is the latest age or uppermost stage of the Quarternary Period. International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS) have recently named three new ages to Holocene epoch named Greenlandian (11,700-8326 years ago), Northgrippian (8,326-4,200years ago) and Meghalayan age (4,200-0 years). The Last Age of Holocence epoch began 4,200 years ago, during a worldwide megadrought and it has been named as The Meghalayan Age.
The Meghalayan age began with a 200 years draught or (cooling event) which resulted in the collapse of human civilizations in Egypt, Greece, Syria, Palestine, Mesopotamia Indus valley, and Yangtze River China. Evidence of this megadraught has been found on almost all the continents. Its Global Boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) is a Krem Mawmluh cave formation in Meghalaya, northeast India Mawmluh cave is one of the longest and deepest cave in India and the conditions were suitable for preserving oxygen isotopes thus provides important record of Holocene palaeoclimate and palaeomonsoon since they are not subjected to diagenesis, erosion and terrestrial deposits.The global auxillary stratotype is an ice core from Mount Logan in Canada

जब आप के जैसा पढ़ालिखा व्यक्ति गंगा नदी का नाम सही से नहीं बोलेगा तो आज से १० साल बाद बाकि भी यही समझे गए की भारत में कोई नदी पहले के समय में हुआ करती थी जिसका नाम गंगा था (गंगा नदी तो सिर्फ किसे कहानी हे )
