But despite their dominance, many on social media and sports talk shows are talking down on the Celtics, predicting that their success will be short-lived. But why would a team full of stars and role players be so disrespected?

City of Champions! We've won more titles this century than any other city and all 4 teams have at least one. Cities with more than 4 pro teams aren't even close to having the parades we've had since 2002. We've had a bit of a drought though and are overdue for another Duck Boat Parade.

If the Celtics win the championship people are still gonna use the “they’ve had the easiest path to the finals ever” argument. People just love to hate on the internet like you said. And especially on Boston. I don’t get the Tatum hate though. The dude is so quiet. Yet people love people who are obnoxious like jimmy butler… who made it to the finals and lost. Also this isn’t a super team. The warriors with Durant were a super team. This is just one of the best two way teams we’ve seen in nba history. It was built slowly. Not over night like Lebrons heat or the 08 Celtics and people should just appreciate it and all the smart moves the Celtics organization has made to get here. Most people hating on Tatum and the Celtics on the internet couldn’t make a lay up in the NBA
They definitely have had an easier run than usual. But that can’t discredit their success, they don’t get to chose whether or not their opponents are injured, they just play the game

Apparently the inability of other teams to stay healthy was boston's fault. Like they walked into mcdonalds and said "Yeah, I'll have the miami heat, hold the jimmy butler. Then let me get cleveland with just a smidge of donovan mitchell, and lastly I'd like some pacers with a haliburton. Hamstring well done." They just played who they had to. They spent all season beating east and west, healthy, not healthy. They're good. So is dallas. Fans of neither should just be pulling for a good series, but I guess the celtics are the bad guy! *Tony Montana voice*

People forget the first ring the warriors won involved every team they faced in the playoffs suffering injuries to at least 1 key player including Kyrie and K. Love in the Finals, do we act like they only have 3 rings? NO, they have 4. people will eventually accept that the Celtics won fair and square, but they'll kick and scream for a little while because Boston has had so much success in the last 20 years people are tired of them winning. They grew up seeing their favorite teams get violated by Boston, their daddy's grew up seeing their fav team get crushed and their daddy's daddy suffered the same. In 22 the Celtics where below .500 at Christmas and had a harder playoff path to the finals then the Warriors. And also Wiggins turned into Kawhai Leonard for a series and has never been seen before or since. They simply ran out of gas at the end.
But of course, that is never mentioned in the context of them "choking" that year. To an eight year dynasty with all their main guys still being great.
Oh. And Tatum was 24 years old. Younger then Luka is now.
I dont think anyone thinks the Celtics "aren't good enough". I think most people just don't want them to win.

Celtics might be hated but the Mavs get routinely underestimated. Against the Clippers it was said to be a toss up. And they were the lesser favorite to the #1 Thunder and Timberwolves because of their defense. It's not just a Celtics thing as from what I've seen most people are once again betting against the Mavs because of the Celts deeper team.
Ok what fanbase is the most likable in all around great we love our sports. Sorry I can’t think of anyone talking about why they love any particular fanbase.
It stems back from all the racism in Boston's past. Obviously, it exists- everywhere, but it really played out on a national stage in the media. First, with the Bill Russell situation in the sixties, then the bussing of minorities in the seventies. That broke out into violence. Most player's don't want to play here, it's cold, taxes are through the roof. The city is small. Not much nightlife, majority is white. The rest of the country don't like massholes or anything about New England. Not to mention, we've been kicking there ass in sports since the dawn of time. The national hub is Obviously ny an la. Our rivals, so it doesn't take rocket science to figure the dum dump in national media wouldn't like beantown.. ✌
I don't hate the Celtics. I do hate the Lakers-and a couple other Western Conf. teams. My feelings are more "sick of". So I am sick of this endless praising/obsession with the Larry Bird (as opposed to the Bill Russel) Celtics. Sick of how fucking crazy SOME Celtics fans are, sick of how RACIST (yes!) some of them are. Also increasingly, sick of the whole "Luka vs. Jason" narrative- because it really isn't fair to anyone-especially Tatum-who is a very skilled player and a nice guy-who happens to not be the best #1 option compared to Luka. While it would be nice for the Celtics to have one more chip than the Lakers, I'd really rather have a completely different team win it. It is ironic that the Celtics could get taken down by "White Savior" Luka... along with Kyrie! And trying to be positive- I like that a big part of this story is Kyrie's "redemption"-although that may cause certain heads to explode. So.. I hate the "official" NBA media, certain racist and/or ignorant and or drunk fans- (many of who just happen to be Celtic supporters) and I'm bored with how great the 1980s were. Certain Celtic team members-Horford, Tatum and Holiday-I actually like, and I respect/don't hate the Celtics organization and it's history-especially during the 1960s.
Tatum side step 3 pointers is why I don’t like him and I’m a huge Celtics fan he really just be jacking up shots like the game don’t be on the line recently he started to drive to the basket more which is exactly what I thought he wouldn’t been doing so he’s starting to grown on me (pause) I’m a big Jaylen brown fan hopefully they don’t choke this one away
How could you hate on a team built from the ground up. A team that has struggled since 2013 and progressed every year since. What the celtics have done is impressive and something every gm, organization and non celtics fans should envy.

Picking the Celts is NOT controversial. Get out of your echo chamber. The entire Inside the NBA crew picked the Celts to win vs Mavs. More than half the media has chosen Boston, and Vegas is choosing Boston. You're not holding some novel opinion here.
Everyone agrees that Boston has had the most talented roster in the NBA, not just this season but arguably last season too...and they choked to Miami. People hate Boston because they are completely spoiled with talent and they end up doing really dumb things to themselves...they did everything they could to hand 2 games over to the Pacers last series, but the Pacers just choked harder. Boston is expected to win, so people want to see talent lose to grit.
Good take. But I would argue that the Celtics have shown that they didn't used to have. The The Jays have matured as players and can perform under pressure. Sure they have skill, but even skilled players have off nights. And in those off nights if you can still pull off a win with grit. That's what makes a champion.

Basketball is a team sport. No player is getting carried to the finals. They all go to the finals or win championships. If JB JT were getting carried then so was Lebum by Wade, Bosh, Kyrie and Love. So was Carry by Durant, Klay, Wiggins, Poole, Green.
Players getting carried are comments made by those who are ignorant about nature of team sports and I’ll go a step further and say they probably never competed in any sport.

They had some good player on those teams, but when push came to shove, they either did not perform or was straight up injured during the playoffs. The only two players that has been consistently available for all those ECF runs (as in playing the whole season) and being mostly great has been.....Tatum and Brown.
So I guess they have been carried....by eachother?

We have more titles this century than any other city and it's not even close. This includes cities with up to 8 pro teams. Every team has won at least one title this century. Patriots x6, Red Sox x4, Bruins x1 and Celtics about to get x2 this century. Every other year we pretty much have a team in the finals and for 20 yrs every team was capable of competing for a title.
Our teams have dominated the sports world for over 2 decades and with that success comes the hate.
Its simple really, cuz celtics are hard to put money on, and most likely lost people a lot of money. Bandwagon fans are mostly gamblers, and they don't like to waste time following teams that don't give them sure money. This coming from a celtics fan.
