Thank you Aidan for another excellent Deep Dive, in particular for debunking some of the nonsense produced by the popular press. It was also interesting to know about the weather in Southern Africa - I would welcome more coverage of exceptional conditions elsewhere in the world.
Just wait for Mr Ed M. banning those to reduce your carbon footprint while doing that so & so jets off to another environmental conference with hundreds of staff 😂
I’m surprised that you don’t have a backup generator if I moved there that’ll be the first thing I’d get, though now Mr Ed M. Is in charge of our energy I’d recommend getting one regardless of where you are in the UK 😂
Very well explained Aiden, no white Christmas for many. What was the general synopsis for the winters of 1947 and 1963 why was it so cold and snowy. We were snowed in for 2 weeks in Northumberland in 1963, was it retrogression as they say in Met office lingo. I can remember receiving a letter from the late Graham Parker, as I was asking how to be a weatherman at that time. I would like to see what brought these very cold Winters.
Thank you Aidan, brilliant Deep Dive as always, thanks also for the look out on the heatwave in Africa, that kind of heat events are absolutely mind blowing, can't even imagine that kind of heat!
Thankyou Aidan for our beautiful deep dive coverage as usual its always perfectly presented, & all i can say is Merry Christmas 🎅 🎄 to you all @ the Met office 🏬 you do a excellent job for us all year round & to me your smiles are enough to please me , Mother Nature is sometimes a pain in the neck ,but as long as we are all healthy & are safe & can have a lovely meal for Christmas 🎄 anything else is a bonus for my daughter & me as we are disabled, so it will be a Christmas movie day & lots of fun things to do in between, so everyone keep smiling 😊because that takes away anything else that can hurt us no matter what happens, nobody can change what will happen with our weather, so i say just enjoy life thats what's important, & try to keep healthy ,& pray 🙏 for a much better new year 2025 ,thats it from me ,have a wounderful time with your families, all my love 💓 & best wishes Linda & Carly Dunn from Newport Shropshire UK xx
Unfortunately some people think the clickbait outputs of the popular press are actual forecasts from the Met Office and complain when it turns out wrong.
A brilliant Deep Dive Aidan. Very many thanks in, very interesting and certainly informative! A 36 hour Snow Bomb? I really don’t think so, nor anything like it. 😊 Oh my word, how on earth are the coping in Africa? In a drought for so long and now such high temperatures in the highest areas? I know you can’t rule such things out, but just imagine such temperatures here. However do they cope at night, I truly can’t imagine!! 😮 An really excellent DD thank you Aidan, also thanks to the Met Office! Take care everyone 😊
My mother-in-law lost her roof along with five of her neighbours. Also lots of trees down in our local Warley woods some very damaging wind gusts indeed. This is in Oldbury, outskirts of Birmingham. I lost a small tree in my garden and some driving rain found its way in. Awful weekend.
Out of interest Aidan I would like to ask you why do temperatures stay very cold under a blanket fog that linger all day like what you were talking about over Glasgow tomorrow where it will remain below freezing when compared to cloudy day? Is it to do with the sun energy being used to try and evaporate the fog therefore less energy to warm the ground below?
Why do you not use 'heatmaps' to show temperatures across a region, eg at 5:30, rather than numerical 'spot' temperatures? Also, 'heatmaps' might work well for wind speed, rather than numerical values, eg at 2:15. Merry Christmas, and Happy and Peaceful New Year to Met Office staff. 🎅🎉 ☮
Christmas Day is the 50th anniversary of Cyclone Tracy hitting northern Australia, particularly Dampier. Would it be possible to review the meteorology involved and, from that, why it was so deadly.
Thank you Aidan , always a great coverage of the weather . Usually Christmas week turns mild then it turns colder from new year onward ❤ I saw the predicted weather for Christmas on a headline and yep I didn’t bother reading that load of poppycock 😂😂😂 Thanks once again always enjoy deep dive ❤❤❤
Excellent forecast very detailed and informative for those of us who like meteorology. Enjoyed bringing us interesting facts about world weather events.
Excellent spoken report on weather , I'm ex navy maritime officer , and remember 1963 chill , but it was normal then , why well people ate better food , more active , more healthy , and brought up in the temp thro 50s and 60s also the elderly were stronger in mind and body , I lived in nw Scotland then it was fun .
excellent.. really excellent thankyou aidan.. may i ask please if you would incorporate an explanation of how the clockwise rotation of high pressure areas interact with the anti-clockwise rotations of the low pressure areas effect the locations on the ground between the two pressure systems? thankyou once again.. yes i'm a met fan.. xxc
Thank you - please educate the population about Climate Change. You would never know it was even an issue if you read the uk tabloids , or watch the weather forecast on television.
In Gaborone, the summers are long, hot, and partly cloudy and the winters are short, cool, dry, and clear. Over the course of the year, the temperature typically varies from 41°F to 89°F and is rarely below 34°F or above 97°F.
I also don’t believe in anything on what the met office says. They get it wrong most of the time or take a while to give the right prediction when it comes to cold weather.
At less it is cold now I don't like it mild mild mild warm or hot boring weather makes me worse my health issuess 😢 i see what u mean not nice mild weather over Christmas period had that last year it spoiled it Christmas for me
Hi Aidan do we all have to travel abroad to the Alps and Nordic countries to see snow cover in 30 to 50 years time as I heard snowfall will be very rare due to global warming by time we get 2070's?
First, this is not the BBC and second, this is a *deep dive* type of video which goes into a lot more depth and can include world weather rather than just UK weather. It's very interesting stuff. If it's not for you, you can watch the regular, shorter UK forecasts instead.
That's the point of this video, it's called a "deep dive" - meaning an in depth analysis of weather both here and around the world if there are events worth mentioning.
Thank you Aidan for another excellent Deep Dive, in particular for debunking some of the nonsense produced by the popular press. It was also interesting to know about the weather in Southern Africa - I would welcome more coverage of exceptional conditions elsewhere in the world.
just got the power back in the village thank the lord for the wood burner Mid Wales

We all need wood burners. West Walesa here.
I'm sure the met office has nothing to do with you having no power
Glad you got your power back! What a storm

Thanks Aiden, a wander around the globe, and explaining what's happening to our west is always welcomed to show the wider effects of weather.
Thank you Aidan, brilliant Deep Dive as always, thanks also for the look out on the heatwave in Africa, that kind of heat events are absolutely mind blowing, can't even imagine that kind of heat!
Thank you for educating us about heatwave in part of Africa and its effects. Let's have more, a few minutes of weather forecast from other continents.
Agreed. I'd love to know what's driving weather patterns in places around the world. Does New Zealand have a jet stream, for example?
@@MoonOnTheTidesYes New Zealand does have a jet stream
Great educational content and thorough explanation of meteorology. Well done to the Met Office
Thank you for another fantastic deep dive Aidan and for teaching us about the heatwave in Africa. Loved this as always!
When it comes to the tabloid press it either scorning hot weather or a whiteout 😂
Yesss 😂 just wait for next summer for the "50C heat bomb"😂😂

Great forecast gives me confidence to get on with my work outdoors and get it finished.

Thanks Aidan - my A Level Geography teacher would have loved the way you make the printed press look so silly!

Boom 💥 what a storm here in cardigan west wales 🏴. No rain please, the bus stop had its roof blown off 😱

Thankyou Aidan for an excellent deep dive.
Excellent presentation as usual, do be careful not to make the deep dive an extension of the 10 day trend..😊
Excellent forecast thank you Aidan , very interesting re the heat wave in Africa.
I'll switch the electric blanket on.
Thanks Aidan really enjoyed watching very interesting 👍
Nice one Aidan, all to play for on the snowballing stakes. 👋🇬🇧🇪🇺🇺🇦🇮🇪
Thanks Aidan very detailed as always. 😊
Thanks very much Aidan.
Thanks Aidan. I never believe the news articles about weather. I recon Christmas will be another cloudy mild one about 8-10c like previous years lol.
Thank you Aiden

Excellent debunking and explanation. Thank you

Excellent as always !
It was very stomy long lasting stom mild air so annoying over Christmas period yuk i want cold air
The sun really can’t be bothered here at the moment.
since when was it bothered anyway? LOL
@ since September

government warning on my phone😮 the beep beep are so loud. If we have any more storms like Darren I hit the bottle as I Don't drink 😳
You’d think the Government would send their warning a little quieter. It nearly woke me up.
@@42pirhanas 🤣🤣
You could always switch it off.
Lovely thank you 🙏
Maybe a swich to a milder Christmas.
And their won't be snow in the UK this Christmas time the greatest gift they'll get this year is rain 🌨❌🌦✅😫
Just need Sam to pop into the comments section now and promise, he'll never be so silly again. 😂
European snow outlook be nice weekly.

Storms then silvery-grey interminable gloom…rarely see the sun in Wales anymore 😢
When that newspaper presents their latest weather forecast I always assume that it's the one weather pattern we won't get! 🤣
The Daily Express says it's the end of the world Christmas day 🌨 ❄️ ❄️ haven't they told you yet?
I also don’t believe in anything on what the met office says.
They get it wrong most of the time or take a while to give the right prediction when it comes to cold weather.
Do you remember the big boxing day floods that lancashire had
As the PM in the film Johnny English once said “I can’t deal with the tsunami of toss pots we call the national press” 😊
Thanks. These "snowbomb" type clickbait forecasts make me laugh.
Mild mild mild boring

Sunny in Scotland? We've had anticyclonic gloom all day
!
I know and the afternoon video got temperatures wrong
They were right about the fog tho
Sunny all day in South Ayrshire
Not where I am. I live in the highlands between Pitlochry and Montrose and it was sunny.
Sunny in the forth valley
Do we know weather South Wales Christmas Day please

Mr weatherman know wht the weather will approximately be like on the 25th jan? Please
Africa for Xmas then
Just expect rubbish weather and anything else is a bonus 😂
in other words "we dont know"
You don't know how forecasts work, that's for absolute sure.
I thought this was a forecast . Is this an old reel?
A heatwave in Africa who knew
I didn't know about it until it was mentioned here. That's the beauty of these videos, learning some interesting stuff that is happening.
Not sure why the BBC feel the need to tell us about the African weather 🤷♂️

lets put top percentages on because 95 looks more terrifying than 42c - 44c
why are we 5 mins into this before we get into a "forcast"
Way too wordy
