there's also the brief, transitory game that lies in-between those two games: knowing how to execute dodge offsets on paper (and in practice mode), but not in actual combat. i find that i can only do it about half the time when i'm fighting real enemies. also, the only combo i ever consciously employ is PKP -- the others are achieved via mashing and luck.
The battle at 3:15 is spectacular. It is amazing to see what you can do when you know the combos and the stored segment of the moves. I love the comment "the game is saturated with meaning". Awesome video!
I'm someone rediscovering this game. I played it back when it came out, I thought it was very good, but I never really understood just how great it is. Playing it now, holy shit. It holds up so well. Hack and slash in general is a genre that doesn't have too many standouts so it's always been in that top tier, but the depth and freedom, the style, the fluidity of everything really came out perfectly in this series especially in regards to reflecting the main character and how she fights. It really feels like you're dancing and when you know what you're doing it's one of the only hack and slash games where you feel as powerful as they show the protagonist when they're in the cutscenes popping off.
>Failure "This is such a nice, calming way to play the game." I'm sorry but that's just funny to me. Still, I know what mindset to have when I start the game, hopefully I'll have it tomorrow.
This video really REALLY helped me. I was so intimidated by all the combos but I played the first one on my Switch for the first time yesterday and I don't even know how this is possible but I think I'm already in love... and I haven't even progressed past the combat tutorial yet. I literally played for almost 2 hours last night trying out all the combos and learning the ones I think would be the best to use. I took screenshots and labelled my favourite ones! I was up until 1AM doing this last night so that's why I didn't play past this but I honestly can't believe how quickly I've grown to like this game from the dread that this wasn't the genre for me. You're a living legend dude.
Dude thank you SO much for this! I bought the game not too long ago and on normal difficulty this game is kicking my tail (loving it despite that) and this was SUPER helpful. I still suck at dodge offsetting but hopefully with a little more practice I can get it down. Very good video man
th-cam.com/video/NOVVmm4KOm4/w-d-xo.html this is a great video that showcases the many techniques to offset your combo. it’s very easy to understand for beginners as well. if you do still need it lol
I've been playing for a week or so and just defeated the 2nd Big Boss. I die at least 3 times a level, since about chapter 3 anyway, and tend to buttonmash. That one level with like 3 Grace & Glory fights resulted in at least a dozen deaths- most of them in the one back-to-back G&G fight. That's where I'm coming from when I say that I really, really appreciate this video. I had no clue about even just the basics of this- I had no idea exactly how the dodge offset works, or that there are different weights to different launcher moves, or how to time combos, or even that you could hold the attacks to get gun blasts without breaking the combo. I'll definitely be practicing all of this next time I play. Still gotta dig out a video explaining exactly how Wicked Weaves work and why Witch Time seems to last for different lengths of time on different occasions, but this was very helpful. (Also, given how much depth you reveal to the game in just five minutes, I'm now very confused as to why the devs didn't bother putting a decent tutorial in the game.)
I just started a playthrough of this game, and as soon as I got into the tutorial I knew this combat system was going to take some effort to learn. The game presents all the combos at once and it's too much for anyone to wrap their head around. Pressing random buttons mindlessly is the playstyle this encourages, but I don't want to play it that way. I exited the game and looked for guides about how this combat system actually works. This video gives some useful ideas about how to begin learning how to fight with intention and control. Thanks.
Thank you. This is the first guide I have found anywhere that explains things properly and simply. Your dodge offset explanation especially made sense more than any other i have seen/read.
Man, i was thinking about the power of dodge offset today when i was playing, and yeah, Bayonetta can be a surprisingly chill ultimate obliterating apocalypstical destruction bitch-slapping kinky-ish comical punishment, and the best part is that it fits PERFECTLY with Bayonetta's attitude, so if you play in this way, you will kinda roleplay, and i think that this just shows how incredible this game design is.
I used to think I was a God send in the game when I first started playing it, but that was like two years ago. I started playing it again and I realized that I barely use any of my special moves like ever, I only really know like the extremely basic combos, and I don't know how to keep a combo going for very long at all so needless to say your video was very helpful, so thank you very much!
I really like the devil May cry 5 combo list, like you mentioned for this during my first day playing devil May cry 5 I was really intimidated by how many combos there were and how many different weapons there were but then I realized after a few days pretty much every weapon has the same combo inputs so it's basically just learning one set of combos and implementing it into the different weapons, I hate one verse one fighting games like Street fighter and mortal Kombat or Tekken, I used to love them as a child but I just don't have that energy in me anymore
More, please. I've played through this game like 4 times since it came out on PS3, and so much of the combat system still eludes me. I like to understand everything about a game, but Bayonetta seems so cryptic to me.
this video made me realise that im actually NOT playing the game,im at the epilogue,i was just using the katana cause i thought the damage was higher ,now i want to test every weapon with what i just learned
I'm still getting a grip on dodge offset after playing this off and on for the better part of a year. I want to go practice now. Watching you do the three kick offset makes sense. Once you start playing I have no idea what's going on, lol. At least as far as combos and offsets go. But that's the nature of the game, I guess.
I love this game but it always felt like I was missing something. I knew how to dodge offset reliably, I knew all the good and convenient combos, I knew the timing for Witch Time and parry timing for almost every attack in the game, and I knew the perfect strategy (for me at least) to beat every enemy with little to no damage. But I somehow never thought to cancel the start up of attacks with a dodge to skip parts of combos. It seems so obvious but it just never clicked for me. You’d be surprised just how big an impact this tiny thing made I can get Platinum on non boss fight chapters reliably when I could barely get silver or gold before. I’m still not going to get Pure Platinum on chapters for a very long time because some sadist at Platinum Games decided that Alfheims should count towards your overall ranking.
I didn't realize you could use the attack-storing that way. That's a bit complicated but maybe I'll try it later on. I get really overwhelmed with all of the combos but I've managed to memorize some good ones, particular ones that do a lot of hair attacks. :D
Great video and super impressive fighting skills ! Thx, i was trying to learn the combos but i died too much not knowing really why, and i guess that was because i'm too frantic.
I like Bayonetta already. But the truth is, the combat has been for me a rather messy and without elegace. Thanks for this video, I will definitely use this knowledge to enjoy the game even more.
Oh god, this is outstanding !! I'm currently chapter 6 and I just didn't understand why I was so bad at playing this game. It looks so fun when watching other players or trailers, but in my case, it's too much button smashing and akways the same combos. It looks so hard to clearly play good a beat'm all game...
Just like learning an instrument, first you have to learn the simple parts, then string it together into more complex things when you get comfortable. It takes time but you can do it!
Thanks for this video I actually found it very helpful I was doing all The things you said not to do I thought you had to button mash but you don’t I always button mashed because I wanted to get a good score after every fight
I just got this game on my Switch and holy fuck is this shit hard. I’ve died more times than I can count. I’m probably even more confident I’ve possibly been dying as much as I was in Devil May Cry 3.
This is nice bro, I just think maybe I need a coach I think about the movements too much I think about the combos too much I can’t really guess what’s the best thing to press next
Yeah theyre attacks are slow but when you have to do the part to do weave attacks you being in that small ring DOES NOT help out at all bc most of them fly and you can’t do normal attacks only weave attacks and you only get 3mins which sounds like a lot but again most of them fly so if ur trying to do a combo to get a weave attack when they are to close it’ll automatically stagger you bc they were to close or you were to close to them while trying to do a combo to perform a wicked weave attack… so if any of you know a much simpler way to perform a weave attack please let me know
When the god of war reboot came out that clown skillup said the gow series is really precise as opposed to Bayonetta which is very mashy. As far as I'm concerned, offset exists to make you think about every single button press and what comes after that button press
Your video has helped a lot. But, about Dodge Offset...,Are you using Dodge Offset regardless of attacks? Or are you only using Dodge Offset when actually dodging an attack? I fee like I'm trying to complete a combo, and when I need to Dodge, I'm already letting off the previous punch or kick, and don't have time to hold the next attack button to Dodge Offset with. (This is a difficult subject to construct questions for, haha)
The trick is to get really used to dodge offsetting basically all the time. At first it definitely feels fiddly but it's just a matter of repetitive practice - I actually found I was much more consistent doing it defensively after a break and coming back to the game! But specifically to your question - yes I am usually trying to dodge offset during both. You can dodge defensively and offensively in bayonetta - sometimes you don't care about the small attack properties and just want a wicked weave to come out or use a particular combo ending board clear, such as that spinning kick. In that case I will be dodging anyway just to be safer - for some combos you specifically WANT to get witch time before unleashing your wicked weave, as that powers up the ability of the weave to launch enemies. And sometimes you are just fighting and hey, there's an attack tell, you gotta dodge! You want to pay attention to the noises the angels are making - the real secret is that I'm not reading the tells that visually, I'm just listening pretty hard. They give you a lot of warning before they attack, so you can plan your dodges a fair bit making it a lot less stressful to store combos!
I see. Thank you lukusridley. That really helps me see it clearer now. It's the first game I've ever started over as soon as I finished, feeling I didn't really play the game the way I should/could have. This was a big help.
Is there any way to learn the combos outside of the loading screen? I have an NVME SSD so loading screens basically don't exist and I have no way to memorize the combos.
The reason this looks slow is that most attacks can be held out of - as I'm doing here - delaying the next attack but adding a secondary effect (in this case shooting the shotguns). I'm doing this because holding the buttons is a good way to make dodge offsetting easier, as well as making what your combo is doing more obvious - super helpful when starting out! If you look at what I'm doing here the entire concept of dodge offsetting is an any-time cancel that stores combo position!
The strategy guide was written by a friend of mine - Saur - and it is probably the best of its kind. However, the price of a second-hand copy is now absurd... poor future press!
Fair, I would say this is more for when you're at the end of being happy with the basics. I named it like this just because I think it's good to think about as you're learning - if you can be as intentional as possible as early as possible it really helps!
Bayonetta is two games in one: before you learn Dodge Offset and after you learn Dodge Offset.
Nah. It's also learning how time the bat within right. Offsets are easy to figure out.
PANTER OFFSET!
there's also the brief, transitory game that lies in-between those two games: knowing how to execute dodge offsets on paper (and in practice mode), but not in actual combat. i find that i can only do it about half the time when i'm fighting real enemies. also, the only combo i ever consciously employ is PKP -- the others are achieved via mashing and luck.

You're actually so clean in this game lol
Try playing dirtily too!

I had no idea about the gun spinning being the signal for pause combos, thank you!
If course, the Combat System in Bayonetta & Devil May Cry is just like a fighting game.
>Failure
"This is such a nice, calming way to play the game."
I'm sorry but that's just funny to me.
Still, I know what mindset to have when I start the game, hopefully I'll have it tomorrow.
"LETS KICK SOME ASS" is what I thought throughout the entirety of it
This video really REALLY helped me. I was so intimidated by all the combos but I played the first one on my Switch for the first time yesterday and I don't even know how this is possible but I think I'm already in love... and I haven't even progressed past the combat tutorial yet. Thnx just picked this up on Switch I needed this lol, I had no idea about the dodge saving the combos.
I love how passionate you are about this
Dude thank you SO much for this!
I never understood how some players managed to used wicked waves after they executed some dodges. Thank you so much!
Not just that, you can store combos into panther/crow form.
beautiful
I cryed
You should do more "tutorials" like these. It really gives a good idea on how to use the battle system.
I've been playing for a week or so and just defeated the 2nd Big Boss. I die at least 3 times a level, since about chapter 3 anyway, and tend to buttonmash. Tbf the holding button to shoot is in the tutorial but yeah they need to introduce dodge offset properly
This is the best bayonetta video I've ever seen
I just started a playthrough of this game, and as soon as I got into the tutorial I knew this combat system was going to take some effort to learn. You play the game like Arthur Rubinstein plays the piano- you can hear all the notes- see all the moves. I like it.
Thank you. This is the first guide I have found anywhere that explains things properly and simply. Your dodge offset explanation especially made sense more than any other i have seen/read.
Gotta luv his enthusiasm it’s a cool concept to make a tutorial for how to mentally approach a game.
thanku for this! i fall into the trap of spamming too much which just makes everything feel way more stressful then it needs to b. in love w this game
Thank you so much for this. I had so much trouble with the delay combos until you pointed out the gun spinning cue
Considering getting into the Bayo games and this has been very useful for me. Thank you :)
Thanks for explaining and displaying this stuff in a way I can finally understand. The spinning guns tip is awesome too. Never knew that.
Man i could listen to you talk about this game all day.
Excellent video
I love Bayo
Great tutorial! As a veteran hack n slash player but a first time bayonetta player, you've made everything so much easier to understand.
Gotta say the simplicity of this video helped me get much in the PC version of the game
Glad to hear it helped!
I've never tried the onyx roses before this and they feel soooooo satisfying so thanks for this!
I used to think I was a God send in the game when I first started playing it, but that was like two years ago.

underrated channel asf i literally have 30 hours on one of my saves and never knew abt dodge offset-
THIS IS THE BEST VIDEO ON BAYONETTA I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!
Good advice! The great is phenomenal but at times it gets somewhat tough! Thanks !
This explainer just blew my mind. Cheers!
Your passion for the game showed, and tho i'm years late, I appreciate you bro. Take my sub!
this video made me realise that im actually NOT playing the game,im at the epilogue,i was just using the katana cause i thought the damage was higher ,now i want to test every weapon with what i just learned
His accent made this video way better than I thought it was gonna be😍💋💘💞💖💜💕💓
You're one of my favourite youtubers Lukus, would love to see you play Tomb Raider again where you explain all the mythology
things are being considered!
I'm still getting a grip on dodge offset after playing this off and on for the better part of a year. I want to go practice now. Watching you do the three kick offset makes sense. This video was exactly what I needed! Thanks, mate!
This game can get so complicated , I just go with whatever is easier to remember
Great explanation thanks mate
Just bought on switch, great video mate! Can't wait to try this.
I never knew I needed this video until I saw it
Good lord, man, you make this look easy. Lol. Just played this game for the first time EVER and wish I got into it sooner.
amazing video! just what I needed! Thanks a bunch!
Wonderful video. Gonna pick up bayonetta again
Thaaank you! You explained it very clear in words and especially with the gameplay... Se vienen cositas 😈
Thanks for the video it was very informative
I wish I'd srumbled across this video sooner! This is very helpful indeed!
I didn't realize you could use the attack-storing that way. That's a bit complicated but maybe I'll try it later on.
I get really overwhelmed with all of the combos but I've managed to memorize some good ones, particular ones that do a lot of hair attacks. :D
thank's frond. i'm ready to d e l i b e r a t e l y use wizard combo's and achieve maximum dodge offset system !!
Great video and super impressive fighting skills ! Thx, i was trying to learn the combos but i died too much not knowing really why, and i guess that was because i'm too frantic.
Wow this was helpful. Thanks
I like Bayonetta already. But the truth is, the combat has been for me a rather messy and without elegace. Thanks for this video, I will definitely use this knowledge to enjoy the game even more.
? The game's combat is all about elegance... I think you just suck.
after all these years... I didn't know the you could just "skip" a combo
god damn
Wow thanks! That was really helpful, I'll try it after work :)
epic video crab thank u for posting !
no problem bro thank u for ur post
@@lukusridley yo! no problem bro im abig fan
Great guide
Thanks man! Awesome video
Getting the most out of Bayonetta
1. Serve
2. ....No really seerrrve biiiiiiitch 💅🤸♀
Oh god, this is outstanding !! I'm currently chapter 6 and I just didn't understand why I was so bad at playing this game. Just like learning an instrument, first you have to learn the simple parts, then string it together into more complex things when you get comfortable. It takes time but you can do it!
Great video, both Bayonetta games are so well made.
Thanks for this video I actually found it very helpful I was doing all
The things you said not to do I thought you had to button mash but you don’t I always button mashed because I wanted to get a good score after every fight
So stylish and cool 😎 nice combat 👌
I just got this game on my Switch and holy fuck is this shit hard. I’ve died more times than I can count. I’m probably even more confident I’ve possibly been dying as much as I was in Devil May Cry 3.
HESITATION IS DEFEAT.
peak bruh
WTF UR AMAZING
Watching this because I have skill issue
Really useful
This is nice bro, I just think maybe I need a coach I think about the movements too much I think about the combos too much I can’t really guess what’s the best thing to press next
Hbomberguy's long lost twin brother. Great vid
Don't insult him like that.
thanks for the video, good quality no bullshit good job dude
Full bayo playthrough ?
Yeah theyre attacks are slow but when you have to do the part to do weave attacks you being in that small ring DOES NOT help out at all bc most of them fly and you can’t do normal attacks only weave attacks and you only get 3mins which sounds like a lot but again most of them fly so if ur trying to do a combo to get a weave attack when they are to close it’ll automatically stagger you bc they were to close or you were to close to them while trying to do a combo to perform a wicked weave attack… so if any of you know a much simpler way to perform a weave attack please let me know
I love you.
I love you too frond
When the god of war reboot came out that clown skillup said the gow series is really precise as opposed to Bayonetta which is very mashy.
As far as I'm concerned, offset exists to make you think about every single button press and what comes after that button press
god of war is easier considering you do not need to do combos
Nice video!!
now I can stop getting stone medal
Brooo how I can use the practice mode?? I'm from ps4
should just be pressing select - one of the middle buttons - when in a loading screen!
Bro did you like 2 and 3? I need games recommendations from the master…
Very usefull thanks man
Tyvm

I see. Thank you lukusridley. That really helps me see it clearer now. It's the first game I've ever started over as soon as I finished, feeling I didn't really play the game the way I should/could have. This was a big help.
What is the combo where Bayo says “The...END!”
P > P > K > K > K
How to enter the practice mode in bayonatta
How to change weapon
Ty for the video
Is there any way to learn the combos outside of the loading screen? I have an NVME SSD so loading screens basically don't exist and I have no way to memorize the combos.
You can press select to stay in the loading screen!
The flow feels so slow to me, are you able to cancel out of attacks like DMC?
Canceling out of attacks is super easy in this game. You just have to dodge. In dmc most of the time you will have to do a guard cancel.
Just got the game on Switch and have no idea what I’m doing.
Anyone know what dot in combo meaning i have to press what?
Pause! (wait for gun spin)
I would love to buy the strategy guide for this game but I'm not spending the $300 asking price for it. These sellers are high.
That guide is on the internet, it's not that hard to find.
The strategy guide was written by a friend of mine - Saur - and it is probably the best of its kind. However, the price of a second-hand copy is now absurd... poor future press!
Is this really a beginner's guide? I've played the game for about an hour, and this seems pretty advanced. I'll bear it in mind though,
Fair, I would say this is more for when you're at the end of being happy with the basics. I named it like this just because I think it's good to think about as you're learning - if you can be as intentional as possible as early as possible it really helps!
Thanks bruh NOT sure if I learnt anything out of that but I appreciate your advice otherwise.
I just spam punch kick and punch
