    Great episode! I just found your channel. Dracarys is a 2021 L50 as well (Hull #100). I didn't order the utility room option, but sure wish I had! Feel free to reach out if you want to reference another 2021 L50 for anything - I'm aboard full-time and happy to put eyes on something for you.

    Cool! Keep up the awesome work, it is a blast to watch.
    I might have chosen a slightly different route, but hey it's not my boat! I'd have probably have raised the berth slightly or placed it on a lifting mechanism or come up with a fold down floor and bunks that would hinge inboard and constructed a space similar to a Sirius 40DS.
    I might feel differently if I actually owned one of these monsters. I've been on a 50 at a show and walked around and just felt like it was way too much for us. Thus my mindset may be more from the 42-45 standpoint of trying to maximize every inch...which also results in compromise. Plus we are not living out on the water and our expectations will for sure be different than reality. The space available probably far exceeds your needs in the vast majority of situations already and a nicer workshop is probably a bigger need.

    Hey guys, we own a 2020 50 that is still in the Moorings fleet. That eta boat and maybe beyond had a warranty issue with the transverse bulkheads. The Crestomer adhesive failed on a number of boats. In this most recent job you guys exposed that bulkhead which is impossible to get to. You may want check the adhesive on that joint. Ours never effectively cured. Good luck.

    Because the lighter boat is able to gain speed quickly due to the less weight it holds, some sacrifices must be made once you fall out of the mindset you are in.
    First things to go are the extra cabins. One extra cabin for visitors you can't say no to. Wife saw I got to keep my scuba gear, she got her washer/dryer after complaining I wasn't being fair.
    The utility room. A nightmare, as you point out, for weight distribution. Never ever reaches the great concept of having all the crap together, and out of the way, while underway. No more floating shop, and parts house for what other boats typically need because of poor maintenance practices. Still doesn't reduce the exposer for MacGyvers. Still can't say "this is now Sparta" and kick the person you hardly know into the water.
    I like your choice in catamarans. You will be the envy of the majority of the other boats you anchor with. Don't get your sugar scoops below the water line.

    • @SailingDauntless
      @SailingDauntless  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I’m curious to see what her weight is when we are done and how she sits in the water. We will be carefully adding and weighing stuff and then we will be taking her to the yard for a lift to get a final weight.

    could you have made steps down to that floor level and have overhead cabinets above counter?

    • @SailingDauntless
      @SailingDauntless  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes but we didn’t want to make a hole for someone to fall in so we are going to take advantage of the below floor storage instead.

  • @derek8838
    @derek8838 ปีที่แล้ว

    Watching MJ Sailing, lots of mask use for chemical & dust. What say you about not using?
    Thought that you were going to glass your floor beams to your hull for additional strength or are you thinking that the weight on the floor will wedge these & the glue will be strong enough?

    • @SailingDauntless
      @SailingDauntless  ปีที่แล้ว

      They were glassed in, we unfortunately didn’t get footage of it. PPE is important and is worn daily when we feel the task warrants it.

  • @ctown6971
    @ctown6971 ปีที่แล้ว

    Since the side walls of the hull are not straight verticle will measuring down the 2 1/2" on an angle still be a true measurement for floor to be true (cause no such thing as level on a boat) smooth transition and not have a wave to it? Not sure if that came out right, sounded better in my head. Lol

    • @ctown6971
      @ctown6971 ปีที่แล้ว

      Betting not much of angle to make a difference.
