It is incredible that they charged you a toll for removing an obstruction on their toll booths. If it weren't someone in distress, what needs to happen is that all tow companies refuse to deal with breakdowns on the M6 toll unless they remove charges. I suppose they think that tow companies will pass it onto their customers and whilst I somewhat understand that their likely premise is that drivers are responsible for ensuring their vehicles are in working order prior to using the toll road, it is also as much in the interest of the M6 toll road that recovery vehicles remove obstructions and simultaneously dangerous situations. This is nothing more than utter greed and bureaucratic claptrap in my opinion.

When I saw the van stuck in the booth I was like "you're joking!!". Had that been me I would have kicked right off and said "Well do you want that lane cleared or not?" - Perhaps then they would think twice! I hope Greg makes an official complaint because this is not acceptable.

Love how you treat the danger of motorways with the respect it deserves. Safety is wasted effort up until the moment it's needed, and then it becomes genius thinking.

When you showed the recovery of the Citroen van on the m6, the sound of the traffic flying by really did emphasise how vulnerable anyone is right next to a live lane - even in a recovery bay. Hats off to all you recovery guys 👍👍👍

When I picked a van up from there few years ago the chap in the toll booth let me through.
Had to clear it with the manager which was a mission.

Last year we went to Ireland for the first time. Took the car on the ferry and sailed into Dublin. Got off the ferry and headed into Dublin, unsure of which way everything is. Came to the river very quickly and thought, we will go across here and then turn right along the embankment into Dublin. WRONG. This was over the bridge and the road bent left then immediately onto a toll road. Darn it! Got to the toll booth ready to pay happily, and simply said 'I actually didn't mean to go this way. I am trying to get into Dublin'. Without hesitation the chap on the booth said 'welcome to Ireland'. he then told me he would open the barrier, if I just do a quick U-turn and go back through the other way he will get the girl on that booth to let me back though FREE., They did just that. It was called courtesy, common sense and very nice of them.
Imagine THAT anywhere in the UK!

    • @Tyreman22
      @Tyreman22 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Probably not allowed to. When I changed tyres on the motorway you only changed the tyre. You can’t risk your life spending time fitting a valve or repairing a tyre at the side of the road.
I was changing a tyre on the M6 and there was a guy from another company doing the same as me on the opposite side of the motorway. When I finished I turned around and came back down the motorway in the opposite direction. When I got to where the guy was a truck had crashed into him crushing him to death. It’s a scene I will never forget.

Our fuel costs are bad enough but the tolls well no comment . We won't enter London orbital any more due to costs . It's a shame but is what it is , I remember in early 2000s when I started we used to get a little more respect back then for sure . Same stud thread pattern as old Bedford Busses.
Right hand threads on RH Side, and LH Threads on LH side.
Used to work on the NZR and knew full well the Bedford stud rule.
Have seen so many "tourists & private owners" during the years, being completely flummoxed by the offside studs, when stranded somewhere.
Pulling in behind as an ever helpful KIWI, in a private vehicle, I often got statements from drivers that no matter how hard they have tried, they cannot remove the wheel
    ...?
To then see me flip around their wheel brace & instantly (and easily) spin those nuts off, with little to no effort at all, to enable them to place the spare wheel over the studs as I spin the nuts on again, by turning the wheelbrace the completely opposite way, to what a normal nut gets spun on as?
What the hell - to which I always reply - "righty-tighty, and leftie too" (on a Bedford and any other vehicle with left-side Left-Handed stud/threads).
The dawning of reality on their faces is so beautiful, as they realise that the past hour or more, was all "a complete waste of time".
I tell them, next time - look at the end of the studs, if they have a big R or L, it means stud/thread type
If there is nothing on either the L or R studs, then they are stock RH threads.
Left hand threads on the Left hand side, that aren't tightened correctly, never self unwind, as the vehicle moves the stud in a "locking" motion, holding the loose nuts in place.
The same goes for the RH side stud threads, as the vehicle's forwards motion keeps those nuts tight too.
It is a small and often forgotten thing, to improve safety, but a lot of vehicle manufacturers, don't think safety when it comes to loose wheel nuts.

Do you get much back ache? Strap N/S front wheel then lift your deck. Strap the rest once the decks up then your not bending constantly.
Also if you park so close to your casualty vehicle (the transit tyre change) don’t ever get between the recovery unit and the casualty vehicle while on a hard shoulder. In the event of something colliding with the recovery unit you become the filling in a transit sandwich. Always work from the N/S. It was good to see you exit through the N/S door on the recovery van.

I used the toll road just once a while ago I try to avoid it as it is so very expensive. But I was behind a lorry at the toll and a few days later my bank account had the fee for a lorry taken out! Luckily for me I had a dash cam so had proof. When I phoned m6 toll I was at first told they could not find my registration on their system. It was only when I told them that I had dash cam footage and told the the date, lane and time that i was in when I paid that they miraculously found my car registration. They then told me sometimes if you follow a lorry through the toll, their systems can incorrectly charge for the vehicle in front! Just a heads up to check you are charged correctly

Charging you for freeing up a lane at that Toll booth is scandalous, I don't like Toll booths on British motorways we are being charged for something motorists have already paid for. Short sightedness stopped busy motorways like the M6 from having 6 lanes instead of mostly just the 3 lanes. Highway robbery.
The rim on that wheel at 19:38 had a badly dented rim it's strange the tyre beading fitted on such a bad wheel without losing pressure even though the wheel rim was high.
You should have also cleared the tyre residue that fell out of the tyre into a rubbish bag leaving a clean environment.
Very professional not answering the phone, a customer on the dangerous motorway comes first.

Even Police, Fire and Ambulance have to jump through hoops and paperwork to avoid a charge at the toll. They must fill in a form in advance (how can they if it's an emergency?) Then submit it to the M6Toll for a decision.

    • @BaziwizZy
      @BaziwizZy 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

That is not correct…at least for the ambulance service. I would assume it’s the same for the others. But in the ambulances there is a M6 toll tag so they do not require any forms in advance. I don’t know if they are exempt from being charged but certainly don’t have to pay on the spot or fill in a form before they have to go through it. The tag allows them to drive straight through and then like with speeding tickets it gets filtered and cancelled.

Doing a recovery on a toll road should be treated as an emergency situation, and therefore no toll should be assessed to the recovery vehicle or company doing the recovery; especially not when its the toll collector calling to have the recovery done in the first place. Otherwise, its like a bank being burgled and the bank sending out to the cops to come help them out, then charging the cops to park their cars near to the bank in the meantime before they can help you out with your problem! Absolutely bonkers!

Well THAT will be the last time you PAY won't it, as next time there is a recovery from an island (due), just block SEVERAL entranceways (creating a massive loss in collected tolls) as you VERY SLOWLY, do everything you need to do AND A LOT OF THOSE YOU DON'T NEED TO DO, as you prepare for pulling it out IN REVERSE, to then hitch up and take out on the bypass route...
That'll repay you as you also get more likes on that rescue video too.!!!

So if the winch cable snaps, the van shoots down the bed and backs down the motorway with nobody at the helm! If it doesnt collide with the booth. Would common sense not say to get in the van while loading incase the cable broke then you can brake and steer in safety? I wouldn't have paid no toll bro, like you said its in their interest to get it clear. Great videos mate.

The red dot on the tyre, isn't it meant to be level with the value? as it indicates the high point of the tyre.

Question is, were you requested by the driver to recover him or requested to by the m6 toll management?
Toll usually request highways to remove vehicles from toll toll road / booths and so I would doubt very much that they would request that this guy removes it directly.
If, as is more probable, he was contracted by tge driver then charging him to use the toll was absolutely correct as he would undoubtedly pass on the charge to the driver.
I've worked on the toll for the last 15+ years and never once known them to use a contractor direct to remove vehicles.
