Imagine how much those boots would cost in real life after you’ve enchanted them. I think it’s safe to say “too expensive” will be an understatement with inflation these days.
That and having enough diamonds to make a pair of boots out of them...

@@solidmoon8266actually the cooperation/company Mining diamond actually dug enough to build a small house made of diamonds every year. They just don't give it all to the market to make diamonds "valuable" but it's just a rock.(still a cool rock though)
How much would they cost now? 632 xp? It was 582 xp last year 😢
@@Ninjabi247you might have to add a fourth digit to that...
imagine being in the top 1% and trying to buy something for $50 and being told its too expensive, that's what enchanting with an anvil is like
They need to just remove the too expensive tag altogether tbh. I don’t care if it costs 100 levels or more to add an extra enchantment, I’ll happily grind towards it.
Yes same i would love this
Who tf are you to say "Too Expensive" I have 489 levels, the last one was 38 levels tf you sayin'?

Facts
Nobody in youtube talks about the Obtaining process too, many players get maximum books by enchanting them together (in anvil, for examplento get thorns iii , you need 2 thorns ii) , which eventually makr the book itself too expensive. I dont know why nobody talking about this, its a important thing
This doesnt makes the book too expensiv
For example
Thorns 2 + thorns 2 = Thorns 3 but it costs exactly the Emaunt like thorns 3 alone
+ a bit more xp with the combining
So it is worth to do that
It only gets very expensive if you combine multiple Entchantments on one Book or Armor.
If you only use 3 or max 4 Different Entchantments ... it cost you a decent Amount of xp but never too much.
I am not counting the repair Cost of the Armor.
Examplento sounds like a Harry Potter spell
@@kingofawesomeness5375 hehe, welp I dont remember why I had such a bad Time writing this comment, idk why it sounds like this lol
So that is not how it works today. I started Minecraft with 1.21.4 and I can tell you that the entchantment of a thorns 3 book costs more xp if it is made out out of thorns 1 books instead of a single thorns 3 book and this is true even without the xp which you need for combining the thorns 1 books@christopherwinkler3658
Another thing to note, sometimes the enchant cost will be more or less depending on which item is in which slot.
This shouldn't happen
@@luis-sophus-8227it does. But depending on the order of the books/items in the slots it’s cheaper or more expensive. It’s well known
@@luis-sophus-8227 but it does...? are you saying that you think this is a bug, are you suggesting it's intentional but they should change it? what are you saying here?
well regardless, the process is explained in the wiki on the "Anvil mechanics" page. the cost is basically generated based on how many enchants it has to move from the 2nd item (sacrifice item) to the 1st item (target item), so it makes sense that order matters. it's not an "addition," it's a transfer.
@@jan_Sankuyou’re gay
Oh that’s interesting, I never actually new about this concept, cause when I tried to make op armor a lot of times, it didn’t work. Thanks for the tip!

And here I thought combining enchantment books together before adding them onto stuff was cheaper
I mean That's pretty much it tbh
@@hemal7815He probably meant putting all the enchantments on a single book, then adding that to the unenchanted tool (which would cost about the same)
lol so the method is enchant item first, then enchant it with a book with two enchants, then enchant a book with the rest of the enchants and put that on the item thus preventing the too expensive
@@Sebastianator01 or not waste time and carry different items with different enchants 4 dif armor sets 2 dif swords 2 different picks
I’m too lazy to do that math so I do the method I learned for rlcraft. It’s hard to explain, but you first order your books from most expensive to least expensive. Then, you put the most expensive one on your item, then combine the 2nd and 3rd and put that on the item. Then, you take the next 4, combine the more expensive 2 and least expensive 2, then combine those, then put it on your item, and so on. For vanilla you might not even have to get to that last one, but in rlcraft there’s so many enchants that it lets you keep going even if it shows as too expensive
bro legit just did something just as non lazy
I thought RLcraft had no Too Expensive limit.
@@brokenstarfury4895 I don’t want to spend 80+ xp each time I use an anvil to max out my gear
This is also cheaper if you enchant your utilities with an enchantment table first
Yeah but it can be a bit difficult because enchanting tables are random af a lot of the times
@@CertifiedWaffler64True, but if you have plenty of xp and lapis, you can keep retrying until you get something that works. It can save you a few anvil uses, which is the greatest limiter on the number of enchantments you can have on an item.
@caltheuntitled8021 I agree, I'm not against the method but when I want to enchant things I usually get crappy enchantments
It's better to just loot structures for enchanted diamond items - ancient cites and end cities drop quite often some real good stuff

This is the simplest way I've heard this explained and makes so much sense. It doesn't explain the way to find the values originally though which will be a struggle to work out.
Simply put, when you combine enchants simply put the powerful enchant in the 1st slot and lesser powerful in the 2nd slot. This uses least xp
Or if u play with mods you can use a mod that gets rid of the limit or use the dragon loot mod that has the dragon anvil which will only ask for 30 levels max regardless of it's actually cost and the anvil never breaks
Me experiencing this about my helmet in my hardcore world....
RIP, 169 DAYS IN VOID
Doesn't make sense to be too expensive when it's just us in our world, or a couple people.
My mom: you can't learn anything playing videogames
Minecraft:
This was so useful. I used to think I needed a ton of maces to finally get windburst 3 until I saw this.
The most practical way to enchant an item (that ive found) is to just simply enchant it with a level 30 enchanting table and then enchant it with books from villagers. This reduces the amount of xp you're going to spend overall, and is generally more pratical for an smp
But arnt you using more levels to do that
@@ceasar5555 nah, the enchanting table only takes 3 levels per use.
And plus u can get the best max level enchants in 1 go like looting III, fortune III, protection IV, Eff IV, and Unbreaking III without having to spend from villagers countless of emeralds when u can just use the table, and then that's when u use the books after ur satisfied with the enchants u want
video idea: protection enchantments and EPF. difficult to nail into short length, i know, but basically the gist is this:
always do one of the following:
- all prot 4
- a single blast/fire/projectile prot 4, and three other prot 4
i won't go into the math here, but any other combination is worse, both for the specific protection and for the general protection. you can read more about this on the "Armor" wiki page, most of my calculations here relate to EPF so scroll down to wherever that is laid out.
there is also an armor calculator that you can look up, i'd add the link if i could but i'm sure you can handle it~
Actually its more efficient to combine ALL the books into one, THEN put them onto the item in one go. Everytime you use a nonbook combination you run the items anvil limit by 1.
There's a way to see this that i like to call the value triangle, if you want something you can only get it with two benefits and one down side: if you want it cheap and well done, is gonna be slow (you will grind all those different books in order to make the armor the least expensive), if you want it cheap and fast it's gonna be bad (the too expensive quote in game will probably appear mid way if you enchant without thinking), finally if you want it fast and well done it's not gonna be cheap (prepare to grind for those levels my friend, you'll need them).
Fun fact: Enchanted gear found in randomly generated chests use the normal Enchanting Table algorithm, but for level 38. Anvils cap out at level 39. Coincidence? I think not!
I'm pretty sure I remember there being an anvil use "multiplier" as well, but I could be wrong
just use an enchantment table until you get a crazy pull (ex. prot 4 unbreaking 3 feather falling 4), then the first book you use will cost the same as it would without the enchantment table
It costs the least levels, but not necessary the least xp. Doing a 5 level enchant when ur at level 30 will take more xp than doing that same enchant when you are at level 5. This is why when im at level 0, i just combine one by one (if i know it wont become too expensive)
Honestly just keep reenchanting your boots until you get like 4 enchants at once. I did this and my final cost was only 17 levels.
In fact there is a mathematical way to prove the best way to do it (won’t prove it, but the result is simple enough)
Sort all your enchantment books by cost from most expensive (A) through least expensive (B, C, …, F)
Put your bare item one the first slot and then the books one after the other in descending order. Swap the C and D books (3rd and 4th Costlier). Then follow the algorithm of Each pair, in order, are put together. Item+A, B+D, C+E, F+G. Now you have up to 4 item/books, repeat. (I+A)+(B+D) and (C+E)+(F+G)
And the last step is joining the item with the last book. If you don’t have as many books/enchantments available, just skip the steps that include them.
If you have a previously enchanted item (from enchanter) or from a villager, be careful to give priority to the naturally more expensive enchantments during ties. Ex. Protection IV has a cost of 2 if added to an already Protection III armor piece, Mending is cost 2, in my ordering the Prot 4 book would go before mending. IE. I do not want to make a book with Protection Added to another enchantment, but it’s okay to add other enchantment to Protection. Prot + Mending /= Mending + Prot
As a RLCraft player with so many more enchantments in the mod, I already know about this trick which allows like 20 enchants on a single item.
The actually best way to use the anvil for enchants is to enchant the item at level 30 first, if you get say Unbreaking 3, Protection 4, that's 2 enchants you don't need a book for and your first book enchant costs the same as the first would have cost even though it's already got Unbreaking 3 and Protection 4 on it.
Thank you thats very helpful!

Just add all the enchantments into one book and slap that one book onto your boots
Instructions unclear, I got silk touch II on my pickaxe and now I can't add anything
Even simpler: use 1 2 4 8 method
First use the most exexpensive book alone in a item.
Then combine the next 2 expensive books with the item and so on.
To make it easier on myself, I just make a enchantment book bundle and enchant it via one book at once, quicker
I find it easier to just enchant the boots directly until i get a good few then fill gaps with books
Not camman uploading the same vid today😂
But this gut made it like 1month ago
Got this recommended for me after I enchanted my shovel with efficiency 5, fortune 3, mending, unbreaking 3 one by one.
You can also enchant enchanted books with other enchanted books to achieve the exact same thing
There's a calculator?! Well that's good, because I was confused 😳😅
I think there's also a hidden thing with "treasure enchants", as they cost more
I'm been doing this for so long and didn't know that how to use it I though I'm doing it the wrong way my other way is combining all books as well before putting it at the armor
I learned how to properly combine enchants from one of Techblade’s Hypixel videos. I can say that it’s helped a lot over the years, and I’m grateful he left us such valuable knowledge.
People forgeting about enchanting tables is hilarious
"There's a calculator that can do that for you"
Oh thank god, I'm too stupid to do all of that...
I've literally never in the history of Minecraft ever gotten the too expensive tag. Everyone always complains about it, while I'm getting max enchanted armor and tools wondering "what the heck people talking about?" I don't know what I'm doing to not get the tag, but whatever.
Uh huh... suuureeee...
Bro has never set up a book with every enchantment and it shows
I feel like if Minecraft 2 ever came out, thatd be one of the things that theyd change.
I just want to repair my goddamn infinity bow without it saying "Too expensive!"
or just do it and get it right, it rlly isn’t that hard i usually do , prot, unbreaking, then depth strider and mending then i even put thorns before putting souls speed on, any order can word as long as u leave semi new enchants for after mending your good
Imagine u didn't even understand😅
just get a mod that removes the cost scaling or perhaps the cost altogether
Mojang totally needs to remove the limit already.
It makes no sense in modern minecraft.
After all this time playing Minecraft I only now learned that the anvil combining costs levels
Works fine, just edit the url, youtube ads random words after the orignal copy/paste
I remember I saw a youtuber add a mod that adds like 100 enchants that don't do anything just to demontrate how you can enchant an item with like 70 enchants
"Me drop sword on anvil, Me smack another anvil on sword.

Wow, perfect!
I never heard it explained this way, that makes so much sense! Never been able to find the calculator for it, either 😁
Or you can just put multiple enchants on like 2-3 book then combine those 2-3 books and magic
I never have to think about this anymore thanks to 12 year old me religiously studying this process 😂
Maybe it’s because I’ve been playing Minecraft since I was a kid, but enchanting is super easy any if you get the “too expensive” message you might just suck..
Not gonna lie , Saying Too expensive is just dumb , How are they even gonna exploit it?
And/Or you could also just rename the item every time so the cost doesn't go up, been doing this for two years and it works
Really?!!!!
@@ceasar5555 Yep! Once you rename it, the anvil will just count it as a rename and won't increase the cost next time, found out from another video a while ago (also I'm surprised someone saw this lol)

Just curious, does disenchanting an item with a grindstone reset the enchantment cost increase?
Use an enchant table it’s more cost effective
It pains me that some people don’t know this
For me,First enchant with the table. Then combine it voz its too cheap for me
