This episode was what got me into River Monsters. Seeing the Nope Fish meme back then made me curious about what the fish actually is and got me *extremely hooked* to the series.
Half of the fascinating interest I have in this show, is how well Jeremy and his crew work with the local people and respect their culture. These folk living so close to harsh Mother Nature deserve respect, not being talked down to by those who think they know better.
I just love Jeremy’s love for the fish and how sad he was about the tiger fish dead. it’s like losing a friend for him 💔 and he makes it actually really tragic when it does die instead of normal people just taking the fish home and chopping it up. he makes it seem like a family pet has passed
Yea he likes to release the fish but he has mentioned before sometimes when he goes out with a local tribe he has no choice but to not put it back as the tribes people need it as a food source. Makes sense though.

Absolute BANGER of an episode. I know that Jeremy has a very big heart for all animals but to this day I still don't truly believe that the fish died because of the struggle. I believe the village wanted the fish so bad that Jeremy and his producer decided to let the fish die and give it to the people. If this is the case - and I of course don't know that it is - I guess it ain't so bad because it made a lot of people very happy and provided them with a tasty, healthy meal. On the other hand I feel bad for the fish even though I know that goliath tigerfish aren't endangered. It was just so big, such a survivor that I think it should have ended it's life in the river where it roamed.

When you look images for goliath tigerfish, some of the first few pictures are from this episode with Jeremy holding it, showing that not only is this perhaps the most iconic river monsters episode (alongside the goonch episoode), also that the goliath tigerfish is indeed rare and little is known about them.
The main catch goliath tigerfish is more than worth all the effort put into the ones that got away! There's good reason for it to be as iconic as it is. If anyone gifted me a goliath tigerfish that did not survive being caught, I think I'd damn well enjoy it! According to the Internet tigerfish tastes similar to bream, which is my favorite eating fish, so.....😋
Many years ago I saw a photo in CD shop some kind of man hold a large toothed bizarre fish however at that time I don't know who this person? I don't know what is the creature?🤔🤔🤨 However today I know he is Jeremy Wade I know it is goliath tigerfish I know this is River Monsters❤❤

Goonch is still the most iconic. Tigerfish and thai stingray are 2nd. Insane animals that were pretty unknown before river monsters.
