It's good to know that no matter how old we were or where we lived, or our nationality, we were all listening to that music at the same time! Fantastic times.
Crazy to think that 40+ yrs went by so quick. The end of the 70s were great in my eyes. I can think back to my family members dancing at the house parties when they were young. Now most are in their 60s, 70s, and 80s now or they are no long with me anymore. But the music takes me back.

Being born in the 60s and to see so many of the group's from then still just as great thru the 70s and into the 80s just shows real music is timeless. It's a shame it stopped about 1985 but it was a good run for a lot of these groups. It's a shame the garbage kids listen to now. Thank God for TH-cam. The classics will never disappear. Thank you.
How right you are. 1979 was a pivotal year for me. Do you ever wonder if this kind of music was still being made maybe just maybe people would more kind and caring today?
The best years for music, for me, were between 1975 and 1985. From 1986 onwards, there were still the odd good record, but when that Chicken song by Spitting Image came along in 1986, that was the turning point. Music, downhill from there.
Some of the happiest years of life back in high school..great memories.....was so in love back there with my high school sweetheart ..unfortunately we broke up in college but things turned out fine...thanks for the memories
Wow! Great selections! I seem to remember hearing Ricki Lee Jones' "Chuck E.'s In Love", Supertramp's "The Logical Song", and Cheap Trick's live version of "I Want You To Want Me" on the radio that whole summer. And, of course, Billboard's top hit of the year: The Knack's "My Sharona" (R.I.P. Doug Fieger). All these songs bring back so many wonderful memories as a kid.
I won an ounce of gold from a radio station contest this year and when we gave the correct answer they played Cheap Tricks song Take the Long Way as they said we were right! That piano start was fantastic. Oh yea and by the way the price of gold had just hit 1K an oz! Great years for sure!
We had this radio on the refrigerator that my mom turned on as soon as she got up every morning. Hearing these songs makes me feel like I'm back sitting at the kitchen table eating breakfast with my family. Memories.
My favorite “American Top 40” songs were from 1977-1982. And you did a GREAT job putting together 1979. Your editing was FANTASTIC and the length time for each song was PERFECT enough to sing along to. THANKS for making me SMILE!
1979 I was in the 9th grade. I had 2 older sisters that listened to disco and an older brother that listened to rock music. I appreciate both genres but new wave and punk rock was my music in the 80’s. I’m 55 years now and appreciate the 70’s music and listen now to new and old school R&B.
