I wish you lived next door! 😉 I’m getting ready to start my very first quilt. No sewing machine which brought me to your video. Excellent instructions! Thank you! No doubt, I’ll be referring to you as we go! Thank you for your time!!!
I’m about to start my first hand quilting project, on a mini quilt. Your videos are most helpful and answered a lot of questions, some that I didn’t even know I had, thank you!
Great hints! I bet you could use polar fleece instead of felt. And you could mark registration marks on the felt to help you line up to your patchwork if needed. ❤🌅🌵😷
Thanks so much for this. Just starting another quilt by hand. I really don't like marking and usually just try to do straight lines by eye (with varying success). A felt template for the hearts I want and tape for the lines should handle everything perfectly.
Fantastic just started quilting and enjoy relaxing sewing by hand. Not found any other hand quilters in my area yet. This makes it all so straight forward to do patterns. Thank you.
oh this is so helpful. I love hand Quilting and I just started doing it . I'm definitly going to use this method to avoid marking my whole cloth quilting :) thank you !
I just made the decision to hand quilt a huge quilt top I made, so this video came at the perfect time. Not only do I know how to do it without marking (which terrified me!), but you've given me some great ideas on how to pick patterns. Wonderful video!
Hey! AMAZING tips! I knew of tape but never thought of felt for shapes, thank you! Also, I pin baste too and when you pulled the thread and it caught on the pin, my hand jerked a little because I know that feeling all too well 😂
I appreciate your video. Your techniques are very helpful, thanks! I tried the thimble you are using without success. This thimble would move and shift too much and there was no control, although I did find it comfortable. I also use a rubber finger tip on my index finger for pulling the needle out.
Hi wendy, just found your video as i want to learn hand quilting. Love your method and patterns. Looking forward to try them. New at this art if quilt making. Much blessings
Rubber Thimble fail. . . . Back in my early quilting days when I tried out different thimbles to find the one I really liked, I actually purchased the same RUBBER THIMBLE and as you can see the thimble SHIFTS and SLIPS a lot making it very AWKWARD and DIFFICULT to push the needle through the fabric. It made it feel as if I did not have any control of the needle at all! Sew, 😉 needle-ness to say, it’s on to the next!! 🤓 But you try it and then decide if this works for you!!
Thank you Wendy. I've got some quilt stencils and the pouncing ink bag. But they disappear so quickly. I like the straight line stitches better anyway. I'll definitely go get different sizes of painters tape. Already got the felt if needed. I'm a Newbie here. I also watched the other 2 videos of this 3 set. About how many spools of the 12w do I need to do a large queen size quilt with the larger stitches? Guessimate? Is is better to match each color in quilt with same colored 12w thread? Do you use this 12w thread on the binding too?
I sell them in my shop here shop.shinyhappyworld.com/collections/tools-supplies/products/flexible-rubber-thimble but I'm pretty sure I've seen them at Joann's too.
You didn’t mention why the safety pins? Are the holding the three layers together? Also what do the three layers consist of? I’m a real beginner so need lots of explanation, sorry.
I was demonstrating REALLY slowly. In real life it's much faster. Not as fast as using a machine, of course, but not nearly as slow as you would imagine. :-)
Hi Wendi...Thank you so much for this!! I have a question. I have made a quilt with applique. I would like to hand quilt around the applique pieces. How far away should I hand quilt?

I so appreciate all the little tips along the way. Pulling your knot through and hearing, “It doesn’t happen so often if you catch the batting.”
Love your use of felt to use vs drawing on the finished quilt!!
Thanks so much for sharing these handquilting tips!
Wow! I have never heard of these techniques before. I’m definitely incorporating some of these tips into the one I’ve just basted! Thank you!

The felt thing is genius! Thank you so much!!! 🙌

Thanks for the tute. Love the felt idea. Glad to see you using this thimble. I can see how it isn't one I'd be fond of.
Thank you so much. I hadn't thought about using felt as a stencil. Drawing on my quilts makes me so nervous but I would to do some fancier pattern.
I appreciate your video. Your techniques are very helpful, thanks!

You are my favorite quilt instructor!
Thanks that helps a bunch
Congrats on 100k! That’s amazing!
Great tips Wendi. Thank you so much.
Thank you! You are so talented!
Great points!
You're a wonderful teacher. Thank you
I’ve hand quilted for decades. I mark as I go and use a sliver of soap or chalk pencil.

Great video‼️🇨🇦
Thank you! Thank you!
Good to know, thanks for sharing 👍❤️😊
Very helpful. Thank you.
I am in the process of finding a thimble like yours. Where did you find it?
I sell them in my shop here shop.shinyhappyworld.com/collections/tools-supplies/products/flexible-rubber-thimble but I'm pretty sure I've seen them at Joann's too.
Watching you do this I wonder how many times you've stuck the needle into your thumb lol
I really want to make a quilt by hand!
Thankyou soo much❤🧡💛💚💙
HI GREAT IDEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wendy,
Please help me learn to hand quilt. I am left handed and I can't seem to get the rocking motion.
Do you sew the squares with sewing machine or by hand?
I usually sew the squares by machine, but you can do that by hand too if you prefer.
You didn’t mention why the safety pins? Are the holding the three layers together? Also what do the three layers consist of? I’m a real beginner so need lots of explanation, sorry.
Yes - the pins hold the layers together - backing, batting and quilt top. If you go to www.shinyhappyworld.com you'll find TONS more info.
thanks!
Looks like it would take forever.

Hi Wendi...Thank you so much for this!! I have a question. I have made a quilt with applique. I would like to hand quilt around the applique pieces. How far away should I hand quilt?
There's no set rule - it's whatever you like the look of. I usually shoot for 1/8" to 1/16" from the edge.
Great tips, thanks!!
