I'm about to change the belts on my RS-615US, so this is very useful video for me. The only negative criticism I can comment on, is the music. It's unnecessary, it's loud, and detracts from your speech and the important content of the video. That said, thanks for taking the time to make this video.
@@ClassicHiFiReviews Hi, I've just changed all three belts on my RS-615US and it sounds great now. I was far more confident in tackling the task after I had seen your video, so thanks again!
Got one of these machines RS 615 (EU) and immediately upon inspection I noticed the massive capstan wobble... I've never seen a capstan bearing so worn out in any other decks that I've put my hands on. But apart from that the machine still plays nicely when the bearing is tensioned by the pinch roller pushing against it. Just by lubricating the bearing it has become smooth, it was rattling inside the housing before. I can't really stand the sons of a dog that use these machines without even lubricating the capstan bearing. It wasn't supposed to be re-lubed for 1000 hours after it was made, and a service life of 5 years regardless of hours. It's 50 years later you have to LUBE the goddam bearings!
Thanks, this video got me started on a refurbish of a 615 that I recently picked up. I have most everything working now, but I have a question I'm hoping you (or someone else) can answer. Looking at the parts and schematics, the auto-stop seems to only be a function of playback (not FF or REW). The auto-stop mechanism on my unit successfully stops the takeup idler tire, but I've noticed it doesn't release the PLAY button. Is this normal?
Hell fucking yeah this helped me on my Onkyo TA-2056. I used an aftermarket belt from eBay and that belt was a bitch to get to. Got it dialed in and working like a champ now. Thanks!
Ciao Classic HiFi Reviews. Buona giornata. Antonio
Hi there Just wondering if that oscilloscope will be ok for head alignment, got two options the model you are using and an old tektronics 2440, what would you recommend? Thank you
Im okay with everything except making the tape on a known good machine. No way . Disassemble a cassette and measure the perfect exact amount for a 3 minute run. Reassemble. Unless you get this correct, all bets are off you are assuming.

Hi Max, yes that was one of my first video. Hope this improved with my later ones. I got a few more vintage Technics decks lined up for restoration.

Ciao. Sai da cosa dipende quando la velocità del nastro non è stabile? Va un po' regolare, poi aumenta, poi diminuisce....
thanks for sharing!
Nice. what deck did you use for reference to record test tape ?
Hi do you know what voltage the Tape Deck lamps are Thanks..
Not in this particular model, but usually 6 volts, 68 mA, grain of wheat bulbs, or might be different, that's what i got in mine one
