It's all very personal when it comes to audio of course, and we've been spoiled by the Sennheiser MKH50 of yours for such a long time. The Lewit is definitely underrated and sounds great.
In short bursts the 240 sounds great but for long form I think it might be a bit fatiguing. When you swapped to the Ethos and Sona those sounded much more pleasing while still maintaining nice clarity, it was like my ears got a rest from all that high end of the 240.
Great stuff! I'm always a sucker for a microphone video!! I used to make videos with a professional audio guy and he taught me a lot and I learned how much I really didn't know lol! This was on a different channel called Ham Radio TV. I now focus on my Moto channel. I love the sound of condenser mics but I have to use them close to mouth due to not having a good audio treated room, oh and also loud kids in the house and neighbors with gas powered mowers and blowers.
The puns started getting really thick at the end there. I got the LCT 240 as my first XLR microphone, and I absolutely love it. Great mic to start out with, great mic to stick with forever.
Good practical realworld review and overview, comparison video, and testimonial of the lewitt. 👍👍 Just listened to the surprise shoutout microphone comparison you did and your blue sonas, earthworks ethos, and the lewitt were the top three. Then decided to do my own comparison between the lewitt and my favourite microphones, but did so by recording the same passage with each mic spoken the same way and then playing them back, and it is definitely in my top 5, if not top 3. Also, I just rented the Lewitt and am currently trying out and testing using this microphone to add to the rest of the microphones available and being used to record a modern radio-play, so it's being put through its paces. So far, having tested and used it before listening to your videos, it seems that I have come up with similar conclusions to you. This MDC or medium diaphragm condenser microphone sounds fantastic. Period. In my opinion, it kind of combines the best of both SDC and LDC, condenser microphone worlds. Upon listening to it, it seems to be pretty balanced in terms of a sound profile in that it is neither bottom or top end forward, but mid range forward, so it is very useful on all ranges of voices. Also, the clarity, detail, and overall pick up is amazing, plus, it sounds so smooth, clean, not particularly sibilant (though that can depend on the voice of course too), and is just so pleasant to listen to, giving it an absoLewittly lovable listening longevity. Go Lewitt Go! Hopefully you will be able to find a way to use your lewitt more, but regardless, thanks again for your video on this, and also your puns are quite enjoyable. Congratulations on your continued social media success. Go Tom Buck Go! Stay safe and stay awesome. Gerry 🙃✌️🎤🎙️
I have a LCT 220 Pro. I agree with Tom. This mic is quite nice. By the way, the boom arm I'm using is Avermedia BA311, which somehow can solve the problem of horizontal axis. Maybe not perfect, but it works for me.
Great video Tom (as always). I have the LCT-440-Pure and simply love it. As much as I "want" to love the NT-1, I simply find that I'm most often, drawn back to the Lewitt. I have a good friend who, now that he is retired, is wanting to get into VO work on a fulltime basis and I think the 240-Pro (along with the Focusrite, Solo I'll be loaning him) would be ideal for his voice. I'm forwarding this link to him now for his review/research, etc. Thanks much.
@@tombuck 440/441?! Now That Will Be Just "Pure" "Flex"💪at that Point Beeing Square at the others! Think We Blue-Wit on the Ethos in the name of Comps! Not Shure where you Stand on USB and XLR in one mic not Bee-ing There as a Choice for us?!
The tiny $10 "OnStage Music Accessory (MM01)" (available on Amazon) solves the problem with awkward mount angles. This is "a ball joint with 5/8"-27 male threading to any standard mic stand," and it works. Have not tried it with LCT220, but it is perfect for my LCT440.
There’s a mic stand adapter available from lots of manufacturers called a “universal joint” or “universal ball joint”. I think one of those might possibly help with the boom arm issue.
The Ethos has an amazing rich broadcast sound, the Lewitt has more sibilance to my ears. Lewitt sells the 240 in a bundle with the shockmount, its cheaper then buying separate.
The 440 comes with the shockmount and magnetic pop filter included. A better deal and better sounding mic than the 240 IMO. The 440 is a true large diaphragm condenser. While the 240 uses a smaller diaphragm.
I have the Lewitt 240 and the 440. No other make sound like them. Light, transparent, clean sound is their signature. I'll never understand why people are so infatuated with the Shure SM7B (as a standard), which sounds muffled and has no dynamic without a lot of eq.
FYI This mic can be used with the Blue Yeti boom arm & shock mount designed for the USB Blue Yeti Blackout (and others). I have this and it works. This mic hangs off Center but it functionaly works. However, you can not use the Lewitt pop filter with this set up but the PEMOTech metal mesh pop filter on Amazon works great and looks good!
Solution, use the shock mount designed for the Shure SM57. The tang for the XLR port should fit right in that and it'd look much cleaner. For the shock mount, maybe have someone 3D print a piece that could slip over top of the mic and secure on with some elastic, have some magnets built into it for the mount? Wouldn't be too hard. But yeah, I bet an A55M would fix the shock mount issue at least.
It's pretty too lol for the price I'd get that one. Still haven't cashed in my Yeti yet and beyond the Yeti I used a FiFine microphone. Been a while since I stopped by so had to come by!
Great video! Talking about the mic position on the boom arm, you could just use the hole mic and shock mount horizontally, the shock mount is strong enough to work while being sideways, plus visually it looks good as well
Use Elgato Low Profile boom arm with this mic. It has a ball head that you can put in the vertical position, and install the mic with shock mount the same way you install it on desk stand.
The LP arm is great! It's just a little clunky with my specific (and somewhat crowded setup). I ordered an adapter that someone recommended in another comment here, so I've got fingers crossed to see if that helps.
For the part where you mention not being able to turn/swivel the mic you should look at the Triad-Orbit M2-R adapter it allows any mic to be positioned in any way you like as it's basically just a ball head adapter for mics so you're not constrained to just using the mic in one orientation :). Hope that helps.
Yes! I have this with my Earthworks mics. It does work somewhat well, except that if the Lewitt is angled back a bit too far, then the mount tips and starts to unscrew. It's not a huge issue, but on the off chance that it happens while recording something important, it would be a bummer 😁
@@tombuck Ah I see I was just going off of what I learned from a Podcastage video from a while back about gear he uses and thought it could be a good alternative to use. To be honest I forgot the earthworks microphones even used them until after I made my comment.
it just occurred to me you could also just screw the microphone towards you on the arm. like face the end of the boom arm upwards or down, and then you can turn both the mic and shock mount towards you
Which would be better- Lewitt lct 240 pro vs. audio technica at2020 vs. at2035 or any other condenser mic for warm vocal (recitation) recording for a soft and low-voiced male voice?
They're all great mics, and it really does depend on the specific voice. Personally, I would choose the Lewitt. The AT2020 is a great sounding mic, but it's definitely becoming a bit dated. I haven't used the 2035 myself though, so I can't really speak to it.
A friend has the very nice LCT 1040 which is $$$$$! Maybe it's how I run sound but I try to stay with Dynamic Mic. I love the Ethos but it along with other Condenser Mic just pick up so much 'other stuff'. I think on your shootout I think I was in the minority and like the Ethos over the Lewitt.
I bought the shure mv7x and i liked it but it was real gain hungry and i was getting noise going through my focusrite solo so i bought this tonight and my friends say it's the best that ive ever sounded and thats with no shock mount on the elgato lp boom arm. I'll be returning the shure and keeping this.
@@tombuck it sounds really good! the salesperson at music store said he can’t keep them in there. He said he had just put that one out two hours before I got there and then I went in for it. He said he had tried it himself and wants one eventually.
I love your content! You are awesome at presenting all the details of gear. I like the puns. I want to get some gear starting with audio, a mic, a boom arm, maybe a mic stand, etc. Down the road, I want the rest, Rodecaster II Pro, etc. It might sound trivial or silly. But, I really would love an all white mic or white and gold. I did find a white boom arm. Quality is more important. I need to stay frugal to get started. I have a Boya lav mic to try. I know I can start with my phone or video camera and add things when possible. So, I won't let anything stop me from just posting in the beginning. I'll review some more videos and rewatch some. I plan to do podcasts, zoom chats, and videos in my kitchen or other areas. So, the lav might be great in some situations.
Hi Tom - Have you tried the Triad-mount from the Earthworks mic to adjust the Lewitt mount in an L-shape? In my experience the Triad ball mount is so tight what it should easily be able to hold the mic and its shock mount in position.
I have! It works alright, but it's not perfect. I think because the EW mics balance their weight more evenly, but with the Lewitt I've found that I sometimes angle the mic in such a way that it tips backwards and starts unscrewing itself. I ordered an Audio Technica mount that someone recommended in the comments here, which looks close to perfect.
From what I see it has the same mount as the LP, which is definitely one of the better options, but still not quite perfect for a side position (at least for me). But now I'm curious to try it...
Awww yeah!!! You're talking about my favourite brand!!! I mean, yeah, Audio Technica will always be a permanent part of my life... But, Lewitt is where I am at.
I have this same mic sitting on my desk for over a year, Lewitt sent it to me for free. It's has too much top end for my voice, so without any EQ a SM7b sounds better on me.
Check up the elgato warm arm.. U can spin the mic around 360 degree without an adapter and the low arm profile is pretty cool bc the arm is never in your way or your view
@@tombuck and the low arm didnt work on that mic? I wanted to buy that combination the next days. On the homepage it looks like it should work and in the review videos I saw i also heard that this arm would work for really every mic from every angle.. It would be nice if u could test it for me🙏
Hey Tom, always enjoy your cool mic reviews! 🎙️ What do I gain by using one of those nifty mixers that I don’t get using my Zoom H6? I had been using a DJI lav mic for a few months as an upgrade from my Rode video mic, and I love both of those because they are so convenient and plug right into the camera for super easy sound recording at the same time as video. But, ngl, the sound is soooo much better when using the Zoom H6 as my voice recorder and syncing in Resolve. So, what is this mixer of which you speak, and how does it make like better?? 😂 🤔 thanks mucho amigo! 🦦🍩
The H6 is pretty sweet, so you might not actually gain a lot. I love my Rodecaster Pro II because it has a ton of additional features and the biggest benefit over the H6 is the amount of clean gain. Not super important for a condenser mic, but it can power any other mic without introducing any noise or hiss, which is great. Also, side note: I LOVE the Tenba Fulton 14L. It's been the perfect camera bag so far.
What is the white XLR cable here? Getting this as my first condenser mic and love the white accents. Cable probably doesn't matter (?) but this one looks really clean. Thank you for all your videos!
Why not us an SDC shock mount on the stem of the mic? Then you could turn it any way you want. I use one on my AKG 414 EB all the time and it works perfectly.
@@tombuck Oh my God buddy! I thought if anyone has one it would be you. Yes please do yourself a favor and check it out it's from a company called Tech zone
Does the Condenser setting on the Rodecaster add any processing? I ask because the LCT 240 in this video sounds way better than in any other video I've seen, more bass and less harsh.
Great Vid!!! Do you review the Tula mic? I live in Thailand and a lot of popular mic's have high markups here, where I can get the Tula at similar to US/Canada retail prices here (and I love the look of it).
I HAVE A SOLUTION!!! (It isn't perfect but it works really well for me) If you position the mounting screw perfectly vertical you can spin the whole shock mount to face the direction you want it to face. The bad news is this means you lose a bit of reach on the boom arm, but it isn't much, and that lost reach isn't an issue on my setup. Hope this helps!
Thanks for the suggestion! I've been able to get that to work a bit sometimes, but it can still be tricky depending on where the arm is coming from. I found the Audio Technica AT8459 adapter, which has absolutely solved the problem!
Lewitt LCT 240 is best for your voice. The others are more nasal for your voice. Lewitt LCT 240 does not add those frequencies around 700 hz to 1 khz. Lewitt LCT 240 👍

In short bursts the 240 sounds great but for long form I think it might be a bit fatiguing. When you swapped to the Ethos and Sona those sounded much more pleasing while still maintaining nice clarity, it was like my ears got a rest from all that high end of the 240.
The ETHOS is, to me, the most soothing mic to listen to.
Tom: “I do have some really great sounding microphones in similar price points, except for this one.”
Shure SM7B: 👀
Great stuff! I'm always a sucker for a microphone video!! I used to make videos with a professional audio guy and he taught me a lot and I learned how much I really didn't know lol! This was on a different channel called Ham Radio TV. I now focus on my Moto channel. I love the sound of condenser mics but I have to use them close to mouth due to not having a good audio treated room, oh and also loud kids in the house and neighbors with gas powered mowers and blowers.
I swear every time I press record someone teleports in with a leaf blower or cement truck to start making as much noise as humanly possible.
@@tombuck HAHA
The puns started getting really thick at the end there. I got the LCT 240 as my first XLR microphone, and I absolutely love it. Great mic to start out with, great mic to stick with forever.
Best mic. Never had an issue with mounting. I use the Elgato low-profile arm. No issues.
Great explanation and demo, Love the Outro 😜👍🏽
The train went off the tracks a bit.
@@tombuck I liked it, kinda reminded me of the old @PotatoJet videos where they would cut it in the middle of a word 😜
Good practical realworld review and overview, comparison video, and testimonial of the lewitt. 👍👍
Just listened to the surprise shoutout microphone comparison you did and your blue sonas, earthworks ethos, and the lewitt were the top three.
I'll have to check out that arm!
Great video! There is a bit of a metallic sound to this mic
I now REALLY want to try out the 440. 😁
This mic fits your voice great! Nothing distracting about it.
There’s a mic stand adapter available from lots of manufacturers called a “universal joint” or “universal ball joint”. I think one of those might possibly help with the boom arm issue.
I'll have to look into that!
My O.C. White Ultima Mic Arm has the functionality you’re looking for. But it’s pricey
Really?! I'll have to take a look. It might be worth the price.
The Ethos has an amazing rich broadcast sound, the Lewitt has more sibilance to my ears.
Lewitt sells the 240 in a bundle with the shockmount, its cheaper then buying separate.
I really love the ETHOS. It's definitely the most "soothing" mic I have.
The 440 comes with the shockmount and magnetic pop filter included. A better deal and better sounding mic than the 240 IMO. The 440 is a true large diaphragm condenser. While the 240 uses a smaller diaphragm.
Oh really, I didn't know it came with all that, that's awesome.
@@tombuck Yes sir, check it out. Would love to see an update video from you with a comparison between the two!
hello....is the shure ksm 42 good for vo
I haven't used the 42 myself, but it's tough to go wrong with a large condenser like that- especially if your space is decently sound treated.
@@tombuck i have like a vocal booth i built ...thx bro
I have the Lewitt 240 and the 440. No other make sound like them. Light, transparent, clean sound is their signature. I'll never understand why people are so infatuated with the Shure SM7B (as a standard), which sounds muffled and has no dynamic without a lot of eq.
"Light" is a really nice way to put it.
I have a weird version (maybe older?) it’s an Authentica LCT 240. Has a pad and a low shelf that light up. Love it!
FYI
This mic can be used with the Blue Yeti boom arm & shock mount designed for the USB Blue Yeti Blackout (and others).
Dang this sounds pretty good. Albeit pricier, I’ve had the CAD e100s for years and love it. Such low noise floor.
I can't get enough of this mic, especially now that I've got it mounted how I like!
It's pretty too lol for the price I'd get that one. Still haven't cashed in my Yeti yet and beyond the Yeti I used a FiFine microphone. Been a while since I stopped by so had to come by!
Glad you're here Ash!
A perfect duo for my 7RYMS Minbo Mini. ☺️
It'd share the same shape as that condenser mic (Lewitt one) you talked about.
Squares all the way! ⬜
Great Review and great looking microphone.
Great video! Talking about the mic position on the boom arm, you could just use the hole mic and shock mount horizontally, the shock mount is strong enough to work while being sideways, plus visually it looks good as well
That's true- it is a strong mount! I did get teh Audio Technica AT8459 that someone recommended here and it made a world of difference!
I got the Lewit 540 in 2021 -- Overkill but love it.
I ll purchase one
It sounds and looks great!
Thanks Preston!
I’d love to see a comparison of the Lewitt 440 pure vs the 240 pro. If you add the shock mount and pop filter there is less than $70 difference.
I've got the 440 on the way!
@@tombuck, I’ll be anxiously awaiting some great puns and quality sound checks!
it just occurred to me you could also just screw the microphone towards you on the arm. like face the end of the boom arm upwards or down, and then you can turn both the mic and shock mount towards you
I'd love to hear this LCT240 on a guitar cabinet. Haven't seen a review on a cab.
@@tombuck Thank you!
Oh I saw a video on the 1040 and it seems pretty wild. The ETHOS is pretty tough to beat, especially when it comes to simplicity and easy of use.
So glad it sounded good for you! It's such an underrated mic.
Danke!
Thanks for the support as always, kind sir! 🙏
A low profile boom arm like the elgato lp can help with the swiveling that is affecting the shock mount. That is what I use for my mic.
It does work well, but I have a hard time finding the perfect spot for it in my specific setup.
elgato wave arm should be able to do that, no? (not the LP)
From what I see it has the same mount as the LP, which is definitely one of the better options, but still not quite perfect for a side position (at least for me). But now I'm curious to try it...
Tom is bomb. Love this dude's videos.
And Tim is the Tim(e) bomb!
Love this mic!! I have the 440 as well. And used the 440 on my ep!
The Elgato arms are nice, I like my LP with my Wave Mic 3. Tried to link to it, looks like the comment got deleted.
Sometimes the spam filter stops links, but I try to unblock them as quickly as I can if they're not spam!
Awww yeah!!! You're talking about my favourite brand!!!
I mean, yeah, Audio Technica will always be a permanent part of my life...
But, Lewitt is where I am at.
A boom arm that solves the problem of the mic shockmount is the elgato boom arms.
I have this same mic sitting on my desk for over a year, Lewitt sent it to me for free. It's has too much top end for my voice, so without any EQ a SM7b sounds better on me.
Definitely important to find the right mic for your voice. SM7B sounds good on just about everything thankfully!
It looks very unique
Check up the elgato warm arm.. U can spin the mic around 360 degree without an adapter and the low arm profile is pretty cool bc the arm is never in your way or your view
I have the low arm, but haven't yet used the bigger one.
@@tombuck and the low arm didnt work on that mic? I wanted to buy that combination the next days. On the homepage it looks like it should work and in the review videos I saw i also heard that this arm would work for really every mic from every angle.. It would be nice if u could test it for me🙏
Tom there is an adapter that you need to try for your lewitt mic it’s called the Triad-Orbit M2-R you should do a video on it
Hey Tom, always enjoy your cool mic reviews!
Rode starting making their own XLR cables, which I really like 👍
Nothing wrong with wanting to enjoy how a mic setup looks!
thanks for all you do
Thanks for the kind words!
Do you have a link for that ball head that you are using on that Earthworks Microphone on the Rode boom arm? It looks very practical to turn the mic..
Here ya go: geni.us/EVwpUG1

@@tombuck the link doesn’t go to the product
Would you consider this for vocalists with high and loud vocal ranges? So far I’ve seen yes
Where did you buy your blue and pink puff filters for the SM 7B microphone? Thank you kindly.
reporterstore.com 👍
Why not us an SDC shock mount on the stem of the mic? Then you could turn it any way you want. I use one on my AKG 414 EB all the time and it works perfectly.
It would allow more mounting options for sure! Th e downside is that I don't think it'd work with the Lewitt pop filter.
Great video, thank You from Germany. Kai the bee filmer. 😄
You should check out the AKG lyra at some point. Its a neat mic.
Ooh, I haven't used that one! But I've liked the AKG mics that I have used in the past.
To be honest, I preferred the sound of the Lewitt to the Ethos, which sounded a bit rumbly. But perhaps you were a bit too close to it.
The Lewitt is a really special mic. 😎
Tom, have you compared to the Steller X2? Thoughts? Just VERY curious
Never heard of that one! I'll have to check it out!
@@tombuck Oh my God buddy! I thought if anyone has one it would be you. Yes please do yourself a favor and check it out it's from a company called Tech zone

@Tom have you tried the Lauten Audio LS-208? I think you will love it.
Sir, I want to record my own written poetry at home. I am full beginner. can you tell me Which audio interface and microphone would be best for me?
it is a beautiful mic
Does the Condenser setting on the Rodecaster add any processing? I ask because the LCT 240 in this video sounds way better than in any other video I've seen, more bass and less harsh.
The condenser setting by default does add a bit of processing, but I had that turned off for this. Other than that all it does is add phantom power.
I realize you need phantom power for the Lewitt, but do you need a preamp booster like a fethead phantom?….I use a scarlett 2i2 for an interface.
Nope! For condenser mics, phantom power is all you need, so the 2i2 is perfect by itself.
Hi Tom....
Whats about the podmic? Where it stands?
I remember that it was your go to mic at the beginning of this vlogs.
Thanks man 😊
Your face is underated!
🤓
Great Vid!!! Do you review the Tula mic? I live in Thailand and a lot of popular mic's have high markups here, where I can get the Tula at similar to US/Canada retail prices here (and I love the look of it).
0 what does one need to start podcasting? Mic,interface, something else?
@@tombuck that adapter is a life saver in a bind.
Have you looked at the AverMedia mic arm? That has ALOT of flexibility with positioning. I love mine
I haven't but I've heard good things!
Yesssss the winner mic!
Lewitt LCT 240 is best for your voice. The others are more nasal for your voice. Lewitt LCT 240 does not add those frequencies around 700 hz to 1 khz. Lewitt LCT 240 👍
It definitely does depend on the individual voice. Mine can easy become too nasally 🤓
Have you Done Full review or comparison tests with AKG Lyra Ultra and another Austria mic similar form factors, almost?!
