Larry Norman - The Outlaw ~ Track 9
From the Album "White Blossoms From Black Roots" ~ 1989 ~ (Solid Rock Records)
    ----------------------------------------------------------------
While there are numerous collections available already, if there's one Christian artist who is overdue a definitive "best of" then it's Larry Norman. This latest reissue from Solid Rock makes a valiant effort to redress that omission. 'White Blossoms From Black Roots' has a checkered history; originally set to hit the streets in 1987 it first saw light of day 10 years later (albeit with subtly changed track-listing). A further decade on we Brits get to join in the fun. The 13 tracks seem perfectly chosen - a mixture of classics from Norman's pivotal 1970s output, previously unreleased tracks and alternative mixes. Expected songs from the " Trilogy" albums are all present and correct - "I Wish We'd All Been Ready", "Why Don't You Look Into Jesus", "Why Should the Devil Have All the Good Music" and "The Outlaw" - plus a couple from the unfairly under-regarded 'Something New Under The Son'. One of these, the charming party piece "The Sun Begins To Rain", features jazzy piano from actor/comedian Dudley Moore. So often "best of" CDs can be padded out with filler material but not here. While fans may argue over tracks which have been excluded each song earns its place - be it the rockabilly of "The Man From Galilee" or the White-Album-psych-rock of "Looking For The Footprints". The same applies to the bonus tracks, including some of Norman's work with the late lamented producer/singer Mark Heard. Taken on its own terms, and without comparison to the other collections available, this album forms a handy cut-out-and-keep account of the cream of Norman's output. Here's hoping it also serves to bring this CCM icon to the attention of a whole new generation of Christian musicians and music fans.

My foster mum Joane used to play her 12 string guitar and sing this song. Many nights my family and I sat and sang as the fog rolled in over the valleys in the dusk of the evening. She died more than 12 years ago and I've missed her voice and calm presence. Im sure she is singing in heaven, strumming on her guitar. I hope she is helping the angels watch over me and the rest of our extended family. We believe we will meet again in heaven and join together once more to sing Praises to God.
Blessings from South Eastern Australia, Dot

Jesus wasn't "just a man. He came from God, from outside of this world. He didn't come in His Glory. He came humbly in a manger showing that He came to free anyone who would have enough faith to believe in Him.

What a dedicated, gifted, man of God, thank you my brother. Was fortunate to see him in Atlanta in a packed small Christian coffee house that we squeezed into for an all acoustic concert in the early seventies. Wonderful memories with close friends with a common belief in Yeshua. His music helped us worship the Almighty instead of the worship of man and his music.

To be a bit nit pickey you could argue that the line "It's time for us to leave" is a reference to the idea of the rapture, which is questionable, but I choose to understand that line in a more general sense, of Christ's return and that this world is not really our home.

Did you put this video together brother Greg? Either way it is just about PERFECT! I saw that the segments come from the Gospel of John movie. I suddenly got in the mood to revisit this "Christian music oldie" and I was hoping to find just this sort of video. Thanks for the share. As things seem to be moving quickly on God's prophetic clock, now more than ever I'm excited about Jesus's return.
